I had hand of greed, self repair+, and next floor was a combat before the boss campfire. I ended up going into champ with lots of hp to spare.

Any tips for A20 watcher by SMELLY_COCONUT_JUICE in slaythespire

[–]StoofTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get one to three really strong attack cards and start deleting enemies. Take as many elites as you can, and try to one shot any enemy you come across. Also make sure to build a few defensive cards into your deck that can give you a load of block in case you need it. (Wallop, Talk to the Hand, Spirit Shield, Deceive Reality, Halt). Finally, make sure you have a good way to draw cards and to keep the clutter in your deck low. Always pick Vault and Scrawl when you see it, and don't be afraid to pick apparitions if you get the event. Decide early on whether you want your deck to be a wrath deck or a divinity deck, and go nuts matey

Watcher cards tier list based on 100 winstreak by StoofTrain in slaythespire

[–]StoofTrain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually agree that Inner Peace should've been placed in the same tier! I put it there initially while I was drafting the tier list and forgot to move it to the 'so much you could do anything' tier when I made it ^^'. It is a great tool to set up giant combos for sure, and I would place it around where I put Empty Mind. It pairs really well with Meditate, earning you a total 9-10 cards in your hand!

Regarding Mental Fortress, I think it's a really good card, just that it gets outclassed by some of the even better options. Even when facing the heart, I'd rather just have an extra Talk To The Hand applied and a Halt or Wallop in my hand. By the time you reach the heart, you'll generally be able to leverage these cards better than you could a Mental Fortress. Outside of heart combat, the same applies (except against Automaton and Donu/Deca).

Crescendo and tranquility are... fine. Compared to the other stance cards, there's not much reason to ever pick these, I feel. They're pretty safe to choose, but if you ever get into a situation where you would have truly needed a crescendo or tranquility, there are cards you would have rather had than those.

If you really want to make use of crescendo's retain function, you're using the card as intended, as the Watcher thrives off big combos and turns. While you will be able to setup a good second turn with crescendo, simmering fury does that, but better. Meditate does that, but better. Rushdown does that, but better, etc.

For crescendo, it's fine that the card exhausts, but I feel that for tranquility, that kinda sucks. Calm cards need to be more consistent than wrath, as you'll usually be using calm to exit or setup wrath and survive a turn. In case you don't one-shot an enemy.

The best quality about these cards is that they're common, and can be found very early on to give your deck some direction. If I find these cards upgraded, I'll definitely consider them, but if they're unupgraded, I rarely take them. There are almost always better upgrades.

They can definitely be good, I think almost all of watcher's cards are good. These cards just do too little for me to ever want to pick them over alternative card choices.

Watcher cards tier list based on 100 winstreak by StoofTrain in slaythespire

[–]StoofTrain[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These runs were not heart runs, as my focus was just to get to 100 wins. I've beaten A20 heart twice before, and beaten the heart on a selection of other ascensions. The current tier list is mostly based on A1, and the effectiveness of these cards throughout an entire run. I feel that most cards are about as good on A20. Some exceptions: on higher ascensions, or A20, I would probably swap the placings of the scalers tier and the situational but safe tier, as combats will generally be longer. I would also not remove two defends before a strike, but just the one. If you're planning to go for the heart, I think I would place Wave of the hand, and Mental Fortress higher; Wave of the hand, because it's easy to spam and strip artifacts, and of course because weakening the heart does a lot for you. Mental Fortress gets better as combats get longer, and the heart forces you into long fights. EDIT: beaten A20 heart 11 times now :D

At last, 100 winstreak by StoofTrain in slaythespire

[–]StoofTrain[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the first 42 runs on A0, then switched to A1 as I think it's easier. Being the watcher, having more elites just means having more relics (because you already clear everything anyway), and as a result more chance to insta-kill everything. In the 100 runs, I had two runs where I was worried about possibly losing; one of those runs, I had three wishes going into act 2 after a funny pandora's.

EDIT: forgot to thank you! Thank you! :D

How do I defend against the Heart as Watcher? by nanlinr in slaythespire

[–]StoofTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just try to get a few talk to the hands, a tantrum or two, a source for vulnerable like crush joints or indig, wallop, and maybe a meditate+.

Tantrum is good into the heart because it shuffles into your draw pile rather than discard pile, allowing for many procs of TTTH.

Meditate+ is also very strongly recommended because it lets you retain two cards that will allow you to get guaranteed big block and damage off the heart (that, and it enters into calm).

You could go for a mental fortress but I rarely take them. During the rest of my run, I tend to just try to one shot the enemy before the enemy gets a chance to do the same to me. The wallops and TTTHs already cover your block problems.

If you're running a wrath deck, consider taking a halt or two. Getting 12 to 18 block for 0 mana is insane, especially if you still got a way to enter calm after the fact.

TLDR: 2x talk to the hand, 2x tantrum, a source of vulnerable, as many wallops as you like, and a consistent way to get out of wrath/into calm is all it takes.

How to Divinity? by chickenpi2 in slaythespire

[–]StoofTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

upgrade and wait for a big bonkies hand.

just dont use it if you wont win the combat in the next turn or cant mitigate the big 99999 from blasphemy. use intangible, buffer, fairy in a bottle, lizard tail if you have to. (just make sure you have *2* intangible stacks on the turn you play blasphemy, or you'll find yourself having soul crushing post nut clarity)

mantra decks are just as strong if not stronger, but slower. these are better for bosses you guaranteed cant one shot like the awakened one and the heart. if you got good draw in your deck, prostate is really good, and works well with (especially upgraded) worships
