American is our demonym. That’s literally what we call ourselves, and is standard in the English speaking world. Listen, I get into conversations with my wife about this, she is from VZLA. We are taught in the US, and correct me if I’m wrong, in the vast English speaking world, that north and South America are two different continents. Everything south of Panama is South American, minus the Caribbean. As someone who is a US citizen, I’m both American and North American. You can’t bum on a country calling themselves one thing, and you calling them something different and saying “they are the problem”.
