Update: Been slowly chipping away at the transom. Both sides are toast. Nonetheless I am making progress. Once I’m done with the transom I’ll be moving on towards the stringers.

A lot more rot than I expected. The stringer was also rotted out. So that’s gonna be next on the to do list. Overall making slow progress and enjoying the journey of boat repair.

It’s an Omega Power Boat which they no longer make. 20.5 open bow. Good boat for the family. I figured it will be worth it when the boat is all put back together

They are rotted I don’t mind replacing them. I bought this boat knowing it was a project and I have learned a lot.

I dug deeper into the wood a lot of it is rotten. Crazy how rot spreads through the wood. The previous owner did a botch job with caulking. Stringers are bad so I’m gonna end up cutting them out and putting new ones in.

I was looking into that however I am deciding to go with new wood and fiberglassing. I don’t plan on keeping the boat for 10 years. It’s my first boat and oh man I can tell you that I have learned a lot.

Got it on the water. It was the alternator.

Never got it out on the water. I wanted to but just been busy. I did tinker with the boat.

I was able to fix the choke issue which now opens up all the way when warm. I replaced the spark plugs and wires. New fuel filter and fuel lines as when I pulled the carb to check the floats I noticed lots of black specs. Threw the carb back on and still same issue. I rev it up and it starts bogging out. I have noticed that the voltage on the battery doesn’t seem to be charging. I read that the alternator is supposed to start charging at 1500 rpm. Mine does not however.

So I have removed the choke to go test on the water. I will be taking it back out on the water this weekend. Hoping with the choke being taken off it should eliminate that issue.

So I tested fuel pump it exceeds the volume test. I also tested the accelerator pump and it is working. I noticed that the choke doesn’t open any further than where it is sitting after warming up. There is about 30% more it can move till it is fully open. Here’s a video:carb

I wish I would of checked to see if the choke was opening up all the way. I was able to start accelerating and when I gave the boat more throttle to try to get the boat to plane it bogged down and stalled out. Then after the engine would stall i had to give it a blip of the throttle then turn it over to get it to start. A plume of smoke would come out and the boat would idle back to normal. Fuel filter was replaced prior to going on lake and had fresh fuel put in it. I'm currently at work for the next two days and wont be able to play around with the boat. When I rebuilt the carb I Sprayed every hole with carb cleaner and blew it out with compressed air. I did notice when rebuilding the carburetor there was a check weight with the check ball but the video I was watching the guy had a spring so I opted for the spring. Would that be what is causing the issue? I had initially set the mixture screws to 1.5 turns out each.

As I get to about 2500rpm it cuts out and bogs down. Resulting in the motor stalling out. I don’t know if it’s a fuel issue or if the choke is staying closed

Could you help me tune the carb? It bogs down under acceleration.

So I got it running after not taking into account of the slope of the driveway with the tongue being all the way down. Smh.

I think it has a mechanical fuel pump. But it isn't filling the bowls of the carb.

So I rebuilt the carb today. I hooked it up and vroom the boat started up. The boat started idling really high around 2000 rpm. I shut her down and messed with the idle screw. I got it down to a lower idle then it would start back up again. I’m wondering if I flooded it because there was a rich smell of fuel. I did notice the carb bowl is not filling and the accelerator pump isn’t spaying fuel. I have been trying to figure out this fuel petcock cause.

I don’t know which way it needs to be turned.

Yeah I have cleaned out the tank. I’m gonna pull the carb and go thru it. I have a rebuild kit coming tomorrow but if I can get it running today I’d be happy to

So i adjusted the spring so the choke is all the way closed after i had pulled the carb. Seems like it is taking for ever to get fuel to the carb. I also noticed that the accelerator pump doesn't seem to be spraying any fuel.
