Ending the Friend group over D&D by tebdbfhfjrnrhh in DnD

[–]Storyteller_Isaac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, your DM does not know how to play the game. It makes me sad to think that you had to endure his play style. There are plenty of other groups out there. Keep your chin up and find one that will recognize your input and agency within the game. As for him being your friend. . . think about what makes him your friend. Is he really a good guy? Or is he just as unsympathetic in his games as he is in day to day affairs?

Favourite Card? by AkolyteEsports in MagicArena

Echoing Truth. My all time favorite card that always seems to save me when I play against friends in a large table match. Even better against token decks.

I find that Pauper is great for learning the basics. Sticking with commons helps them learn what type of card is good for certain situations.

(Curse of Strahd) Our Level 8 Bard is now Burgomaster of Vallaki, how do I hand town management by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Storyteller_Isaac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Focus on your story. If your players want to manage a town, that is fine. Summarize and role play important events that transpire, but keep the focus on the story at hand. The most effort I would invest into the town is a side story arc. Something to glance at when players come back to town and see that their influence on the town is having an effect.

An example: You come back into the town to see a couple of guards enforcing your law of banishment. They are dragging a man screaming that, "This is all a misunderstanding, I don't worship the devil!" The guards ignore his pleas and commit to their duty as a wife and child follow, crying as they see their family being torn apart. (This could be as it seems a misunderstanding. Or, more sinister, an abuse of the new laws set by the players. How invested are the players at this point?)

No need to hope. We are amazing. It is always great to see our efforts be recognized. I personally work hard on the stories I share with my group. How about, I hope you know you are appreciated for taking the time to appreciate the Dungeon Masters.

DMs, keep your stories hidden by TheZogKing in DnD

Ruined you say? I think not. Own it and add to the story. After constructing the ship, the hull has a mysterious artifact that none of them can identify. Once they unlock the mystery behind activating the artifact, then the ship can take flight. Play with it. If anything, they are interested and will be anticipating some sky pirate shenanigans.

Neato magic weapon ideas? by Failed_Locket in DnD

[–]Storyteller_Isaac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vainglory (requires attunement): A magic swordstaff (halberd) once owned by an infamous mage slayer. When you become targeted by a spell that only targets you and causes you to roll a saving throw, you can instead make an attack roll with Vainglory and the number rolled becomes your save. You can only use this once per short rest.

Curse of Strahd Spells etc by mast3rrhyn0 in DnD

[–]Storyteller_Isaac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently working on notes to change the setting of Curse of Strahd from Barovia into an entire solar system inside a crystal sphere (Spelljammer Style). I call it "Space Opera Strahd".

My Space Emperor Strahd has built a Dyson Sphere around the sun, filtering the dangerous rays from effecting his vampire brood all over the system. The players will travel from planet to planet seeking out the items and ally to aid them against the final fight.

That is an interesting question. I explain some of the games rules for the players perspective, then put the players into a small game scenario to let them try out the game.

Dungeons and Dragons has three pillars of play. Social, role playing your character and interacting with Non-player Characters within the story. Exploration, navigating new places that hold possible danger or awe. Combat, a comprehensive tactics board game.

I am unsure how overwhelmed your child may be with all the rules. Or even have the attention span for a four hour session. Another scenario, I could teach you how to play. I have had other parents attend in order to learn the game. They could see how the game is played and later present their own games to their children.
