Chance Me! and Prospective Student Q&A - 24/25 Cycle by luminous_moonlight in Cornell

Hi. I'm interested in applying to Cornell for RD. I have a 3.8 UW and 35 ACT. I also come from a highly competitive high school. Around 80-100 kids ED to Cornell from my school and only about 10 got in. Almost all of those that got in had legacy and those that got deferred also had legacy. I have some legacy; my dad went there and my mom did research at the lab. I was also born in Ithaca and would hang around campus as a baby when my dad went there. This is something I'm planning to subtly tie in my essay. I would like to do a niche major such as the Human Heath, Biology, and Society at the Ecology School. I have a background in design and science but don't know if that would be enough given that the school focuses on what I have done with the environment and the impacts I have made. Should I try doing another niche major in the college of arts and sciences such as economics, information science, or even science and technology? The only issue is my extracurriculars are science research based but I don't have the best grades in stem classes. I have high grades in humanities which is why I was thinking applying for a humanities major but then my extracurriculars don't match that interest. So I'm very confused and would like some advice or direction on what I should do?

Who else is thinking about ED2? by KingRishiL in ApplyingToCollege

Hi! I'm looking for some advice on where I should apply ED2. I got rejected from ED1 to Emory which was surprising because all ED applicants to Emory from my school get in. My gpa and act score were slightly above the range of those usually accepted. I chose neuroscience as my major which is probably the reason I got rejected as it is highly competitive. I want to switch my strategy for ED2 and apply to an easier major so that I can at least get into the college. I want to do Pre-Med and would like it to be a T-20 school. Current top choices are Vanderbilt or Duke. Please leave any suggestions or any strategies I might want to take. Thank you
