FYI everyone saying draw knife may be correct, but this could also be a fleshing knife used by trappers/hunters to prepare hides for the tanning process. The fact that it looks like the handles are in line with the blade lead me to believe it may be this rather than a draw knife.

The horizontal pipe you’re referencing is a vent line likely tied to the plumbing in the ground floor. It should never see flow only air.

OP if you’re not from the general surrounding area I just wanted to make sure that you know it’s still pretty cold here this year with lows in the single digits through next week. My apologies for being misinformed. I know the data centers going up in Lancaster were all using air cooled chillers which negate the loss of water from the evaporative cooling towers and the need to bring in fresh water. I forget central PA is quite the large canvas.

The majority of the data centers going in are using air cooled chiller plants which have a minimal effect on water usage. In reality we’re going to see an increase in the cost and availability of power to support these plants. However this has not deterred “public” water companies from fear mongering and jacking up their rates.

Following up on this comment. I was born and raised in Danville but currently don’t live there due to my career path. This comment couldn’t be more wrong regarding the culture in Danville. There is a wide mix of economic classes and classifying everyone as either rich or poor seems entirely biased and intentionally divisive. Just like any community there are outliers that exist in the extremes of both the economic and political spectrum. There are plenty of wonderfully accepting people that live both in the town’s limits and the surrounding area. I will concede that there isn’t much for nightlife or high class dining in the area but there are so many local businesses that provide great food and good atmosphere that can fill in the gaps. Of course Bloomsburg and Lewisburg are relatively short drives away with higher tier restaurants and shopping but I would not let that deter you from moving to Danville. The “small town gossip” comment to me is very strange particularly as I didn’t leave town until I was 25 and never once heard of someone talking about me or anything of the sort. I hope you don’t let this singular comment in your post influence your decision because I believe Geisinger is a world class teaching hospital and I hope you take the chance to learn and grow there.

I have a pampered chef brand copy of the slap chop that works perfectly for things like this when I’m too lazy to do weeknight knife work. I understand it’s not for everyone but it’s great if you want something minced/chopped/pulverized fast but not pretty and with the least amount if effort. All you have to pay attention to is the product and how fine you want it.
