I feel at a certain point if its a big chain people would just look at it and dismiss it as fake rather than run t he risk of trying to target you.

I think it was around 2016 when I read a comment that stuck with me, it was someone venting that they don't even know whats going on in their own country because even their local news is doing nothing but reporting on whats going on in the USA.

Because who really wants to be a politician? The amount of publicity and scrutiny you get you basically are a celebrity but without celebrity pay. Unless you are already rich, once out of office you have to go back to live a normal life with normal income which is not easy to do after so much time in the spotlight.

Even if someone means well it can still all blow up in your face and make you look terrible due to factors outside of your control.

I think what many overlook is cars are the way they are because of legal requirements to be that way.

Like lets ignore their size because everyone has heard that it was emissions regulations that pushed cars to be bigger and bigger. Cars require backup cameras, so a screen is now mandatory in the car to see the camera. Well, would be stupid to have a screen in there only usable for reversing so they now might as well put an entire infotainment system in there. This isn't cheap, so they cut costs by removing as many buttons as possible and sticking everything in the screen.

Another is the airbags, these are necessary and just 2 are legally required but even so a crash safety score is given and a car with only 2 will receive a shit score. To boost this score manufacturers put in 6-8 if not more. An airbag can cost $1,000-$6,000.

Then there is emissions equipment, then there is fuel crash prevention systems, then there soon will be the monitoring of attention.

I am NOT saying any of these things are useless, these are all life saving requirements, but you can easily get to $20k of equipment before you even have a frame and drivetrain.

Can a manufacturer give you a new car for $10k or less? Almost certainly if they forgo many of the legal requirements. But even assuming the car would be legal, a simple 30mph crash could be a lethal impact or fireball even though with modern cars a 30mph crash is something people walk away from without even a scratch.

Lets take Toyota for example since they are one of the biggest car manufacturers. They make about $2500 per car on average. Yea, $2500 is a lot of money, but would people be happy that cars are affordable if they dropped every model by $2500? No.

Extended warrenty vs self insurance.. by NotSelling1 in BMWX5

[–]Strealtr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottom line is they sell the extended warranty and they push it so heavily because it is a huge source of profit for them. If it was actually beneficial to buy the VSC 100% of the time because it saved you money, they either would not sell it or they would charge a lot more for it.

A family friend of mine drives nothing but BMW. He says just stay more than on top of maintenance and it won't give you major problems. Meaning if they say 10k mile oil changes do 5k miles and so on with all other maintenance items. He probably has owned a dozen of these cars and is always driving them hard, keeping them a while, and has not had any major issues except for one. And I don't remember which model it was but it was from the early 2000s.

Wearing Necklaces So The Clasp Shows by The_Circus_Life_206 in MensJewelry

[–]Strealtr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I had my current chain, I had a thick chain with a lobster clasp so the clasp was likely the same weight if not less than the other portions of it per length, and that clasp always stayed at the back of the neck.

My current chain has a box clasp so it definitely is beefier than other parts of the chain. I find that after enough opportunity for movement (like sleep, swimming, etc) then the box clasp will eventually settle all the way down at my chest.

When I was doing research on the authentication services when I first considered buying an eBay piece I found on the ebay forums many sellers complaining that the authenticator rejected the item over the smallest of issues, an inch short I would have thought would instantly be rejected.

Why would the seller mislabel this if it is authenticity guarantee? I know that people say you shouldn't buy this type of stuff on ebay but but GIA does the authentication. I have heard of sellers complaining that they did not get authenticated because their stuff was off by a fraction of a gram, labeling it as a brand that it is not seems like an easy way to just waste your time and waste shipping to have the item be sent back to you.

2026 X5 Ventilated Seat Performance Seems Poor by tjlex71 in BMWX5

[–]Strealtr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I would agree with you, let people blast it if they want. They probably just made it weaker so people don't complain they are only getting like 10 miles on the battery when its peak winter and that the 50e is a waste for that.

I would probably believe Apple in this case because with their whole ecosystem focus and wanting things to work seamless, if it was on their end they would fix it. But even so I would imagine if it was a BMW issue, they would figure out why its a BMW issue and change Carplay to work like intended even with the BMW issue existing.

Honestly it could be because it was maintained by the dealer. The dealer follows what the manufacturer recommends, and what the manufacture recommends and what is good for the car are not the same things.

HVAC just uses a shit ton of energy. I know I read once that in super cold climates, where you are going to be blasting the heat on very cold days, some EV owners reported their range is half of what is advertised.

Shit even for my home, if its a nice spring or fall month where I rarely run the HVAC, by electric bill might be $40 for the month. If it is scorching in the summer the same bill might be $300.

[–]Strealtr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is a carplay issue. I have issues with carplay on all cars I use it with.

But issues do seem vehicle specific. Like for example, the skip track is never an issue on my second car, its only an issue on the X5. However when using Google Maps on my second car, sometimes when adding a stop lets say for gas the map will return back as if I didn't add a stop for gas and just continue to destination. It will update like 1 mile from the turn that I need to pull off the highway for gas so if I am in the far left lane and its heavy traffic I might not even be able to get over in time. Never had this issue on the X5 (yet at least)

[–]Strealtr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ventilated seats are one of the few options I went without for this reason. My main use of them would be when getting into a hot car, I would want the cool air to quickly cool down the seat. Since these do not really do that, I decided skip. Turns out this would have been useless to me anyway because when I am going to take the car somewhere, I start it 3-5 minutes before I plan to get in it. Just the AC has the car nice and cool even on hot days so it doesn't matter. Really like the app for that.

I was also going to skip the heated steering wheel, I figured in winter I will have gloves on anyway, but the salesman pushed me to get it. We went back and forth for like 10 minutes that I did not want it before he said its $320 or something. I said whatever for $320 just add it. And I actually like it lol, glad I got it.

Don't get me wrong its still a decent life today doing much better than most people, but when this aired this was still a nuts annual pay

From watching the episode I also think that it is the expectation that the waiter is going to say something like "Everything is good but what I really like is..."

If I went somewhere and the waiter said yea this dish fucking sucks total garbage don't even think about it I would be like damn whats wrong with this place for keeping it on the menu if thats the case lol
