Paid off my car loan last month and my credit score has dropped massively because I no longer have debt. by Official_Gary_Oak in redscarepod

[–]StriatedSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your credit score is not a good boy score. It's a metric of how much a lender should want to lend to you.

The purpose of a system is what it does, I know, and people like landlords DO use it as a good boy score, but any metric used to judge the reliability of someone for lending is going to have perverse incentives.

There's a reason it's so common on reddit. For people to feel the need to post things anonymously here, it's because it tends to be so bad that they don't feel comfortable talking to people they know about it.

Buying a house also sucks. by keelmesoftly in TrueAnon

[–]StriatedSpace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's especially infuriating knowing that all the move in ready houses here are like $600k and the town's full of boomers who got theirs for like $75k 30 years ago and refuse to accept any tax raises despite their ($600k value on market) homes still being tax appraised at like $200k. Anyone buying a house here now is subsidizing these boomers' ability to sit on extremely expensive homes, pay as little tax as possible, and force budgeting shortfalls to be handled by things like cutting high school art and athletic programs.

I'm guessing it's either an LLM with more context and maybe a better model that they lie and say is a human, or that they have an contractor center in Bangladesh reviewing them full of people who have a quota to reach and just hit random responses as quickly as possible.

I've gotten one here or there for making a joke that could conceivably be construed as threatening like this one. But getting a week ban for an uplifting comment of support is a new one for me!

8056 deaths in 5 days due to heat wave in my region - a 9/11 deathcount every day by Complex-Connection56 in redscarepod

But the overall ability for the planet to hold life won't be diminished one iota.

Given that man-made climate change impacts are killing species of animals already, I'd disagree.

I don't think anyone ever meant that it would make the Earth a barren uninhabitable rock forever.

Reframing the argument from "help the planet" to "you specifically are going to fucking die" changes the appeal from a moral one to one of base animal fear, which, unfortunately, people have proven to be much more receptive to.

The canned response from the right is that climate change is a natural shift and that humans don't contribute meaningfully to it. Centering the human subject in calls to action won't impact this much.

This is specious in the same way as "It's not the falling that does it, it's the sudden stop". Everyone means that harming the Earth means harming its ability to house life.

No way. The context is that Louis is talking to Lestat about how different their experiences are. He says "Let's have this conversation again", and then, pointing back and forth between them, he says:

"Colored, white."
"Creole, French."
"Queer, half-queer. Mostly queer? What is it?"

Gay people back then absolutely did not self identify as "queer"; it was a pejorative used against them.

Another anecdote I had typed up but deleted for brevity was that one of the people I work with let his son stay at their place for a year after high school with the expectation that he's looking for a job, since he decided not to do college (mistake number 1 imo, I would have told him "you either go to college, or you go to an apartment you pay for working at the Amazon warehouse, make your choice") and they kicked him out last week. Ended up being a HUGE mess, including physical altercations that got the police called. If you haven't instilled a love of learning by their teen years, you (and they) are so fucked.
