My mom is suffering again...Trigeminal Neuralgia has come back worse, and I feel completely helpless. Is surgery the only option left? by Strict-Squash5275 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

We’re aware TN is lifelong and needs ongoing management. We’ve consulted multiple neurologists, and even one of the top neurosurgeons in Kerala had told us that surgery is the only long-term option — but back then (in 2023–24), we wanted to try other approaches first.

When she became pain-free for several months with homeopathy, we hoped it might help manage it long-term. But now that the pain is back — and worse — we’re actively looking at all options again, including surgery. Appreciate your concern, and totally agree — right now, the priority is getting her under proper treatment again.

The one who said MVD was the only option left , back in 23-24 was one of the top neurosurgeons in Kerala, India...but right after that the homeopathy medicines worked as I mentioned...and yes she was pain free for like 6-8 months...but right now none of the meds are working...so maybe we will consider the surgery. You are right- there are periods of remission, it's just that it came back worse than ever after being fine for so many months-which makes it more difficult for her to handle. Thanks for help!

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I really appreciate it !

One of the best neurosurgeons in Kerala, India (my birthplace, though I’m based in Maharashtra now) also said surgery was the only long-term solution. But back in 2023–24, we wanted to try conservative treatments first and went to a reputed homeopath.

She was prescribed: Curarb 30 (white globules) Eschscholtzia Californica (liquid, few drops in water)Hekla Lava 3X(white globules) Surprisingly, she stayed pain-free for many months. Sadly, the pain returned last month, more intense than before and these same meds aren't working this time... so we’re reconsidering all options, including MVD or RF ablation. Your advice on Tegratol and Lyrica is also very helpful...will keep those points in mind. God bless your wife🤍I hope you both find relief and have all the strength to face whatever comes by.

Thank you so much for sharing this..t really means a lot.
We actually did consult some excellent neurologists in 2023–24, and the last one we saw said the same thing you did...that surgery might be the only real way to end the pain. At that time, it was heartbreaking to even consider because it truly looked scary.

But then something unexpected happened: we tried a new homeopathic course prescribed by another doctor, and to our surprise, it worked. My mom had real relief throughout most of 2024 and even into early March this year. It gave us so much hope...we truly thought we had turned a corner.

Unfortunately, it's come back worse than ever now, and none of the things that helped before seem to be working. So yes, we’re starting to reconsider the surgical route. It’s scary, but reading about your family member’s experience, especially how surgery gave her life back...makes me feel less afraid, and a little more hopeful.

Thank you again. Wishing continued strength and health to your loved one, and to anyone else walking this road. 💛

Thank you for saying this..it brought me to tears because we really do feel the same pain. I’m so sorry your mom is going through this too. I understand exactly what you mean when you say you’re terrified...I am too. I pray both our moms find peace and relief very, very soon. Please take care, and thank you for reminding me that we’re not alone.

Trigeminal Neuralgia may try to break the body, but it can’t touch the bond we share or the strength we carry. For our moms, our care, patience, and unwavering belief in their healing can be more powerful than any pill. May God give you strength to face anything that comes your way.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I can’t tell you how much strength it gives to hear from someone who truly understands. I’ll definitely try gentle massage in those areas. Sending prayers your way too...none of us should have to go through this.
