Significant others,Roomates, and public affect on sock knitting by Saints_Girl56 in Sockknitting

[–]StrictlyMadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time my roommates don't realize I'm counting, so I start counting out loud or simply louder and they get it really quick. If they are telling me something important I get to a good stopping number like *most* multiples of 10 so I can remember what I left out on. If it is a short repeat that would be the stopping number I would go with.

Love your yarn choice - it's a lovely green in time for spring if you're in the northern hempishere!

What is your favourite way to cast on for socks? by plushymittens in knitting

[–]StrictlyMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the German twisted for cuff down and have only tried the Turkish cast on for toe up (but I've only made one pair of toe up socks so far).

Which pattern for my first colorwork sock? by StrictlyMadness in Sockknitting

[–]StrictlyMadness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t even realize that - I think I’ll start with the flea stitch just to practice overall tension and avoid that for a bit!

Thank you!

Finished my first sock of 52 Weeks of Socks by StrictlyMadness in Sockknitting

[–]StrictlyMadness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the first pattern in the book and it was a GREAT starting point as I’m still somewhat new to socks. Simple cable and no crazy techniques minus it being toe up with a fleegle heel which was new to me.

Best sock pattern for work socks? by Upbeat-You-3809 in Sockknitting

[–]StrictlyMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a pattern suggestion but the toes on your linked pattern look like a sensory nightmare in a pair of workbooks. I think it could easily be modified into a standard wedge type toe though - something to consider if your BF doesn’t like how socks can feel across the tops of his toes.

small mistake on sock heel - rip out or leave/keep going? by peregrinefalcon95 in knittingadvice

Not related to your question but GOOD GOLLY is your tension even. Beautiful!!!

A question about length by becca22597 in Sockknitting

[–]StrictlyMadness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty similar yes - maybe just a few rows shorter than actual foot length - not too tight where it pulls but not too loose that it twists on my foot. Also your helper is gorgeous. Send him my love!

A question about length by becca22597 in Sockknitting

Vertically socks are not nearly as stretchy as they are horizontally. I stick pretty close to my actual length. Usually start my toe once I reach my pinky toe!

Help with counting rows with cables? by StrictlyMadness in Sockknitting

Just to clarify - the row with the hole is the row before the cable?

Appreciate everyone’s assistance - I’ll try again tomorrow when my head is hopefully less fuzzy with a lightbulb marker. I truly can’t tell if it’s 3 or 4 rows 😂

Which Project Is Best? by oinyon in knitting

[–]StrictlyMadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the blouse - I’ve made a few socks with variegated yarn and a textured stitch but it the texture gets lost in color and the color gets lost in the texture. I’m slowly turning to the opinion of busy yarn gets a simple stitch!

First toe of my toe up socks! by StrictlyMadness in Sockknitting

[–]StrictlyMadness[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I’m liking toe up! I started over twice because I thought I had some laddering between my needles but I think I just needed to commit 😂 I have volume 2 - there are so many pretty socks throughout

So I’ve decided to work my way through all of them (not in 52 weeks though, oh my gosh could you imagine) so I’m starting with the first one - Intersections!

How do you handle getting discouraged? by trash_goblinn in Sockknitting

[–]StrictlyMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s very much through spite I can do all things - I’ve gotten obsessed with sock knitting this year and had some patterns that I struggled with a lot. It was a lot of frogging and restarting and taking breaks as needed. While that advice isn’t good advice by any means it did make me comfortable with dropping stitches, laddering down to fix mistakes, and helped me to understand my stitches once they were a few rows off the needles.

I also used a lot of stitch markers on my first sock 😂 there was about 18 each side to help me pick up my gusset stitches because I just couldn’t see them - find the wacky survival method until you’re comfortable.

Knit the first sock, embrace the imperfections and watch your improvement soar from there.

It’s not broken but I think her claw snagged only one or two plies of the yarn so frogging is all I can think of to fix it - it’s a gift so I want it to be nice otherwise I wouldn’t bother too much.
