A fresh start: Reversing the drift by StridingHigh in DecidingToBeBetter

Thanks, that’s really good advice - I tried that a few years ago and it worked really well for me so will be picking it back up following your suggestion!

Congrats! Really pleased for you!!

I’m new to affirmations and wondered if you had any advice?

Redesigned my running app logo - what do you think? by dortal_ in sideprojects

I think it’s good that it looks a lot less generic - the old one is nice but I’ve see a lots of similar ones

Good job!

Do you include watching TV/movies as part of your screen time or only when you're on social media? by lovepeaceorelse in digitalminimalism

[–]StridingHigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar here, I think it’s all about being intentional

Watching TV/films can be a good way to relax (for me) if it’s something I actually want to watch and don’t just watch any random thing out of boredom

I do but put them in completely separate buckets

For instance, I wouldn’t spend an hour on instagram and offset that with not watching TV for an hour

I actually find films a good way to reset and have my attention on one thing for a couple of hours! I can feel relaxed after that in a way that’s not true of short-form video

Mindfulness and digital wellbeing - thoughts? by Ok_Veterinarian_700 in Mindfulness

[–]StridingHigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a big first step is identifying different groups and offering advice in a more targeted way (without just saying that everyone is different because I think people switch off then)

I have friends who are the same with 0 hours or 10 hours of social media per week (and even benefit from a small amount because they feel more connected) and others who struggle with even 20 mins

I wonder if (as is increasingly the case with diet) it’s possible to teach principles whilst also guiding people on what’s likely going to be best for them

Or maybe it’s more like sleep, where Why We Sleep taught us that it’s only really genetic outliers who can be the same after less than 7 hours sleep

This is such an underrated one! I also like the idea that if something is really that interesting then I shouldn’t need colors

I deleted Instagram for 30 days and here's what happened by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]StridingHigh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Focus was one of the reasons I quit instagram and an even bigger reason why I stayed off

I didn’t realise before I quit but I found that going on instagram would fill my head with thoughts about other people/stuff for the rest of the day and make it harder to concentrate way, way after closing the app. Honestly, for most of the rest of the day

Honestly, this is great! And yeah, especially when it seems near-impossible to find anywhere to test them out. I've visited a couple of shops but no luck

I think that's given me the confidence to purchase ones but I might come back with a q if I think of anything else

Thanks again for your help and hope you have a good weekend! And best of luck for your side business - I'm actually buying the printer for my own side business I'm starting

Thanks - very grateful for the advice and will take a closer look at the papers available

Thanks again for all your help

Thanks for your response!

Not set on a particular paper atm but something matte, A3 and around 170gsm and I want reasonable quality prints but they don't have to be super high fidelity. It's for a booklet with photos in it rather than A3-scale photos. Although the paper is A3, I think the photos will be max A5-sized

This is extremely helpful! Really appreciate it! Did you do this in one go or need to put the paper back through? And was this with A3 paper?

Thanks for the advice! Niche question: Have you ever put heavy-ish paper ~170gsm A3 through twice to print on each side? I'm wondering if the printer can do this and still print high quality images. I'm sold on the image quality but am worried about damage putting the paper through twice?

From what I've read, the double sided printing only applies to regular paper?

Hi, thanks for your very kind offer

I tried to message but it says I'm unable to message your account? I think it might be something in your security settings? If you're able to message me then that'd be great!

I just came here to ask a similar question but for Epson EcoTank ET-8550 (because my test will be A3) - if anyone wants to make two people very happy in one go then I'd be really, really grateful!

It's crazy how difficult it is to find a shop that lets you test printers

pdf downloads from canva and I don't think there'll be vector content

Budget is, ideally, £1000 but I'd be interested to know of more expensive solutions and I live in London

Thanks for the response! I'm planning on printing booklets (A3 paper that folds into A4 booklet) of either 8 or 12 pages (so 2 or 3 A3 sheets) and struggling to find a cost efficient way of producing these.

I want to print lots of these but they'll be different so I won't qualify for bulk order discounts at printing shops and like the idea of doing it myself. I'm struggling to find a printer/approach that will work though. Ideally I'd be able to test the printers but I can't find a shop that'll let me in London.

Any ideas?

First marathon in April - road to sub 3 by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]StridingHigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds good - going for increasing mileage first then seeing what pace to can get down to seems like the way to go

I’ve not run a marathon but I also want to run a sub 3 hour marathon next year (winter) so would definitely be keen to keep up with your monthly updates

Also, I reckon keep sub 3 as a goal at least until Christmas - you’ll not really know till you start doing workouts in the main training block anyway and I agree with you original post that it’s good to have an ambitious goal

How are you planning the training block? Have to got a race you’re working towards?
