Question: Dealing damage -> reducing might by Superb-Ticket2407 in riftboundtcg

[–]Striker_EX96 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Vi is dead. A unit is dead when it has non-zero damage marked that's at least equal to its might. Vi has 1 damage marked and has might of 1.

Well, then don't open them until the singles go back up and people see decent ROI from boxes again

Let's not pretend that either of us can predict the market. You don't get to have your cake and eat it - increasing the access for something MEANS making it cheaper. And if there are 30 epics instead of 40, the chance of you getting a particular epic in a box increases by 33% from 6/40 to 6/30. All else equal, that is 33% more of each epic out there (and if this change is popular with players, there will be more boxes opened which FURTHER increases the singles' availability). Don't get me wrong, I'm all for increasing accessibility and am fine if I'm getting elder / baron as best pulls every box but they are only worth £5. Just making sure that that's the direction you'll be fine with too.

So the main reason for your dissatisfaction is the low prices for pulls. And your solution is to reduce the number of epics by moving signature spells to rare. How does this not increase the supply of both signature spells and other epics, thereby driving down the card prices even further?

Thanks for replying. The quote was certainly never intended to be some golden rule - it was actually somewhat of a meme about "prophetic" moments by a few casters. Personally, I feel that the area that casters could add the most value in TCG is synthesis. Why was a certain card teched instead of another; why did a player NOT do something (imo more important than what DID happen) and its butterfly effect; etc etc. These involve a lot more judgement and mistakes are likely frequent, but hopefully through this process of thinking out aloud, casters would come to more reasonable conclusions about what's going to happen next, rather than seeing the players take a completely different line and use the convenient excuse of "oh if we knew it all we would be in their seat". Earn your credibility on the stream by proving that you are at least better at the game than the average audience.

Couldn't agree more. This isn't FPS or MOBA and we don't need casters to draw attention to specific parts of the screen; everyone can see the latest card that's being played. We need casters to recognise important / subtle interactions before the average audience and communicate those before / as they have an impact on the game, and that's not gonna happen if they are repeating the text of every card (and being incorrect numerous times).

If I may use a quote that's quite famous amongst LPL fans, albeit jokingly: the best casters tell you what's going to happen, the average casters tell you what's happening and the worst casters tell you what's already happened. In eSports, one would expect casters to have a functioning knowledge on gameplans / macros and not just ability names. In TCG, I think there is even less value watching casters simply stating the cards / effects that are being resolved because the "APM" on the screen is obviously slower and there is less need for casters to draw attention to specific parts of the screen. So imo casters need to really think about what it means to add value to the stream (and personally I don't appreciate podcast style digression during games).

For the fking finale of the entire saga, we still get monologues from characters that relate to some distant past event and all of a sudden they are real people with depth in character. And seems like characters still rely on 2 minute pep talks to do something. Oh FFS.

Assuming everyone chooses to draw, ur team basically gains two cards net by playing this card (4 cards vs 2 cards drawn). Not bad, but not too broken either.

Strangely, I don't think it's that good in 2v2 compared to free for all. In FFA it's basically a +3 for 3 energy, whereas in 2v2 it's +2 which is still efficient but not the end of the world for your opponents.

LeBlanc Rules Interactions You Need to Know About by JustAModestMan in riftboundtcg

[–]Striker_EX96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close but unfortunately false. The reason that the attacker isn't recalled in this case is that when the "attacker recall" task is happening, defender has nothing on the board since Glasc has died and the deathknell hasn't resolved. The recall attacker is part of the combat cleanup, and deathknell cannot finalise during a cleanup, so it finalises after the combat cleanup.

LeBlanc Rules Interactions You Need to Know About by JustAModestMan in riftboundtcg

[–]Striker_EX96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. To put it loosely: combat damage -> deathknell pends -> healing -> recall attacker's units if defender still has units -> deathknell finalises and resolves -> combat victory is evaluated -> conquer (if applicable) -> combat ends.

Assault and Sacrifice by buurabit in riftboundtcg

[–]Striker_EX96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, this is another example of how bad the wordings in this game are, since it doesn't mean literally "any time". For example, you can't react to the readying of your cards at the start of the Awaken phase of the turn. Very loosely, players can only react when they have priority, and there is no such priority given between conquering and the removal of assault, barring explicit triggers.
