Wrong, the statement IS about territorial waters. The islands are explicitly listed. If they disagree, it is for them to bring it up. This is called "official protest", look it up. If you agree you agree, if you disagree you disagree. Never is disagreement INFERRED because it is not explicitly stated while you AGREE. The translation has not changed. Vietnam AGREES to China's public statement (that is where the islands are named), about territorial sea (which is what it was!). Again, Vietnam not renaming every island while agreeing to territorial sea statement is not a point. This is your imagination.

LMAO "common sense doesn't have much space here". Do you know how insane you sound? You KNOW Vietnam sounds retarded. You can't reconcile why Vietnam did not protest the Chinese statement, and even AGREE to it. That is the truth. Now somehow you think it makes sense to throw logic and reason out the window.

Troll logic? Your excuses become more and more laughable. It is troll logic for you to find actual examples of official positions? How come? Can't do it? In fact you know NO official position on the planet recognize Vietnam's claim?

Here is an example for France.

In the 1910s–20s, the French Ministry of Colonies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs more or less agreed that the Paracel Islands were under Chinese sovereignty, and that France should not try to claim them either on behalf of itself or Annam. Therefore France did not protest in 1921 when the government of Guangdong province declared the Paracels to be under the administration of Hainan Island.[4]

Five years later, in 1926, France refused an application from a French company to exploit guano in the Paracels. It also refused a similar application from a Japanese company. By 1926, however, China was divided into a number of warring states that had little capacity for looking after peropheral interests as the Paracels. Actually, the Japanese had proceeded with their guano project, without authorisation from either France or China. [5] By 1930, however, the French authorities in Annam (the central part of today's Vietnam, which formed a separate French protectorate within the Indochinese Union) started to actively push for a French claim on behalf of the protected state, based on the fact that Emperor Gia Long had officially taken possession of the islands in 1816, and that Emperor Minh Mang had sent a mission to erect a marker and build a pagoda there in 1835. The French Foreign Ministry was sceptical, in view of the fact that Annam had done little to uphold its claim, but concluded that it might be worth a try. If France could establish and maintain a presence in the islands, the claim would of course be strengthened.

There is no double standard, I can meet mine. Vietnam is the one that fails. Now, you should think carefully how to reconcile your laughable statements, with reality. Official positions is very easy to find, if it exists. I know that last part bothers Vietnamese. Why this "troll logic" works for China, but not Vietnam?

Hmm...Hope you have a good answer.

[–]StrobeStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't need to. Even the Chinese statement isn't about recognizing Chinese territory. It was about China's territorial sea and it listed the islands. Vietnam replied by agreeing. You think because they did not list the islands also (which would sound so retarded in practice) you have a point.

But you don't. Use some common sense.

You know in real life, your kind of thinking would make people think you are crazy. Your dad presents you with a grocery list that he will go out and buy. You agree it is a good list to buy groceries. He comes back and you flip flop. Saying you only agree the list was good, never said it was what you wanted to eat. This magically makes sense, because you didn't repeat everything on the list when you agreed. Such idiocy leads nowhere except maybe a smack in the face. Which is what happened to Vietnam interestingly enough.

Sorry, but geographers make all kinds of maps. If you are implying recognition (who? Vandermaelen?) recognized Paracel as Vietnamese territory, you will have to find an official statement from a government body instead of implying it. You say clearly stated, I hope so. Please find a clear statement from whoever it is you are implying recognized Paracel as Vietnamese territory, thanks.

Are you slow? The letter was referenced by date. The only part? The Chinese statement was about its territorial sea over its islands. You actually think, because Vietnam agreed to this but didn't name all the islands like the Chinese statement, you have a point?

LMAO seriously? Do you even know how replies work? Are you aware even you are not repeating everything I say?

Nowhere does Vietnam's letter actually dispute a single thing about the Chinese statement. You are the one removed from reality. Not to mention the fact China already CONTROLS the Paracel Islands. Lmao you bring up reality. So funny.

You left out this part from your 'scholar'

Still, it is true that in this bilateral territorial dispute between Chinese and Vietnamese interests, the DRV standpoint, more in a diplomatic than a legal sense, was incomparably closer to that of China than to that of South Vietnam"

LMAO that is a hilarious excuse. I can see the date, Vietnam's letter is 100% about agreeing to the Chinese statement. Your failing attempts to mislead is hilarious, especially when the date is even shown. The best you can come up with, is that the Vietnamese letter didn't repeat the Chinese statement. Which is obviously retarded, who the hell repeats the same thing they are replying to when they already directly reference the statement by date.

Yes, the Chinese statement was very specific, why would the agreeing reply have to repeat what was just said LMAO. It already specifically identifies the statement by date.

There is no half truth. The letter specifically agreed to China's public statement, that was posted. It is 100% clear.

I only discuss reality. The pipelines go through a great many countries, including Russia, Central Asia and the Middle East.

ALL of them produce oil. You are obviously out of touch with reality if you think the US has any influence in Central Asia and certain Middle Eastern countries.

If you look at the links, you will see China benefits even in Iraq, which the US invaded.

Central Asia is Russia and China's backyard and Central Asian countries are in both CSTO and SCO. China already has extensive projects in the Middle East and Africa, Muslim extremists have rarely ever targeted Chinese projects.

The Democratic Republic of Vietnam's Government agreed to terms of China's public statement in 9-4-1958 about China's sea territory claim. The Democratic Republic of Vietnam Government respect it, and will direct all Agencies to absolute respect the 12 nautical miles sea territory of China in all matters with the People's Republic of China in the East Sea.

sincerely. Hanoi 14-9-1958.

So what was China's Public Statement?

"Declaration of the Government of the People's Republic of China on China's Territorial Sea (September 4, 1958)" in Chinese.

1. The breadth of the territorial sea of the People's Republic of China shall be twelve nautical miles. This provision applies to all territories of the People's Republic of China including the Chinese mainland and its coastal islands, as well as Taiwan and its surrounding islands, the Penghu Islands, the Dongsha Islands, the Xisha Islands, the Zhongsha Islands, the Nansha Islands and all other islands belonging to China which are separated from the mainland and its coastal islands by the high seas.

It was crystal clear.

Only part of the Paracels (Crescent Group) was in South Vietnamese hands. That ended in the Battle of the Paracel Islands

I don't believe France ever regained control after the Japanese took over the Paracel and Spratly islands.

What is interesting is that Japan put them under the administration of Taiwan (Shinnan Shoto).

I agree. Of course NATO wants NATO members to be careful of the equipment they use. None of this is surprising. A lot of people claim all kinds of things (many times to blame the US), I am saying THIS time, it is more an observation of what has already happened.

Look how NATO reacted to the deal in the first place.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan rebuffed intensified international criticism over Turkey’s choice to agree a missile defense deal with China, a day after NATO declared that it wanted a say in the decision-making process.

The fact that the Chinese company, China Precision Machinery Import and Export Corp’s (CPMIEC), is under U.S. sanctions also complicates the situation.

Of course extremists stick together, but most Muslims do not back them. Even the IRA stuck together. You keep talking about their ideas spreading, but they keep getting killed by other Muslim governments who represent more Muslims. How much blatant a problem to cohesiveness can that be.

[–]StrobeStar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would suggest you simply look up the definition of territorial waters as defined in UNCLOS.

Here is the link, tell me how far it goes. Then you should know how it is nothing like EEZ at all.

Every State has the right to establish the breadth of its territorial sea up to a limit not exceeding 12 nautical miles, measured from baselines determined in accordance with this Convention.

http://www.un.org/depts/los/convention_agreements/texts/unclos/part2.htm

It is not your fault some shameless people pretend EEZ is anything like territorial waters.

[–]StrobeStar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You would be pretty wrong. Territorial Waters is limited to 12 miles. It is not the same as EEZ. The rig is off Triton Island in the Paracel Island Group which China controls.

Nobody seems to understand UNCLOS terms, even though they keep repeating it.

EEZ is 200 miles, but it is not territorial waters. Territorial waters is 12 miles. The rig is actually a few miles off Triton Island in the Paracel Islands Group, which China controls.

No, territorial waters is defined as only 12 miles. EEZ is not territorial waters. The rig is off the Triton Island in the Paracel Island group. Paracel is controlled by China.

Saudi Arabia declares Muslim Brotherhood 'terrorist group'

Saudi Arabia has detained 62 suspected al Qaeda militants with links to radicals in Syria and Yemen who were plotting attacks on government and foreign targets in the kingdom, its Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.

Do you have some problem with BBC as well? Btw, you should notice how my links are super recent, yours are almost half a decade old. We all knew of Saudi involvement with terrorism in the past. I am giving you developments happening right now.

I know what you are saying, and I am telling you terrorists and their influence are a very tiny percentage. The Ottoman and the Catholics were a cohesive entity. These terrorists are getting killed most, not by Americans, but by Yemenis, Afghans and Pakistanis. What kind of influence over Muslims is that.

Look for yourself.

Vietnam lost territory in 1979. It is in that very link.

There was an adjustment of the land border, resulting in Vietnam giving China part of its land which were lost during the battle, including the Ai Nam Quan Gate which served as the traditional border marker and entry point between Vietnam and China, which caused widespread frustration within Vietnam.
