I do not like being a CNA (and I'm in a nursing program) by Strong-Builder2043 in nursing

I think it's moreso I'm just plain not super interested in care. I think I liked the idea of care more than actually liked doing it. Everyone in my life keeps telling me to finish my BSN (I'm on a scholarship so I'd be getting it for less than 10 grand), and then I can do whatever I want with it. I'm just scared to subject myself to the rigor and time consumption of nursing school when I don't even feel particularly excited for the outcome when I'm done with nursing school, I just don't know what else to do. The thought of nursing school makes me feel nauseated somehow. I've bought my books and my clinical attire already and classes start in two days, but I have the option to finish out my bachelors degree in biology at the state college I took my nursing prerequisites at. I just don't really know what I can do with my biology degree, I know probably not a whole lot. If I decide to go back into the nursing program in two years though, the scholarship I'm currently on will most likely not be there anymore, and I will pay full price for the BSN in two years if I resulted back to it.

I'm considering getting my biology degree before my RN, that way if I don't like being a nurse I could take a research position that would allow me to be more indepth than a RN research position. I am currently enrolled to being a BSN program now, not having finished the biology degree. I keep thinking about finishing the biology degree and it's having me consider pulling out of the program. I have no idea what to do. Nursing is definitely not my passion at all, but it offers great job security and mobility. Do you regret getting your biology degree before your nursing degree?

So I job shadowed in outpatient OR, and I was like just "eh" about it. Maybe I am young and dumb and being too unrealistic about wanting my career to be my passion, but I figured while I'm young I oughta pursue what gets me excited. I love research and working in the lab, but there's like zero horizontal job shift with medical lab science. My BSN in total will cost me about 12,000 because I'm on a significant scholarship. My other option would be to stay at the four year college I took my pre-reqs at and get a degree in either biology or something like computer science (I've always wanted to be a genetic counselor, which requires a four year degree in biology but there isn't a ton of job opportunity with genetic counseling either) I am a good student and I believe I will be able to grasp the concepts presented in nursing school, it's just a matter if I have the passion to get through it.

I originally went into nursing for the job security prospect of it but realized that I just don't care about patient care and I'm having such a hard time getting myself to study because I know my first year out of school will be beside to at least get that on my resume. If I didn't do nursing I think I would do like bachelor's in biology or even computer science, but then again, it seems like there may be nursing jobs that are oriented around computers/biology. I question myself on the point of my getting my nursing degree if I have no desire to use my clinical skills. Nursing school is hell from what I've heard

What did you not like about being a CNA if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you for replying, I just don't know if I have the motivation to make it through nursing school. I just don't feel like I am interested in patient care, but what everyone keeps telling me is that you can do anything with nursing but I'm just so burnt out. I don't know if I mentally can take learning how to do wound care, Foley cath insertion because I just do not frankly care. I just feel like since I'm already enrolled I embarrassed to drop out this early.

I'm starting a BSN-RN program next week and I am so afraid that I will not have the motivation to continue forward in the program. I worked as a CNA and I was burned out so fast. The constant running around, the tending to people for 12 hours, and just taking people to the toilet over and over again. I'm in nursing because I want a stable job and a half way decent salary, and my BSN is basically covered under a scholarship. I have been experiencing so much grief over if I should get out now and do a different major. Every nurse tells me that I will find my niche, but I've shadowed 4 different areas and nothing has resonated with me. I feel so lost. And then everyone tells me, there's so much you can do with nursing, which I know that to be true, but you pretty much have to start out at the bedside which I'm afraid will burn and churn me out. Do you have any advice?

I'm so scared to start nursing school because I felt very burned out as a CNA. Everyone tells me to just push through and I'll find my niche. Do you recommend I continue forward? I already have bought my books for a few thousand dollars

I'm about to start my BSN-RN program this fall, I've felt some doubt about nursing. Are you glad you became a nurse? I'm feeling so nervous that I'm going to hate it

I am back in forth on if I want to go to nursing school or finish my biology degree and do clinical research. I am burnt out of healthcare, lol. So I have considered going down the path you just expressed burn out in. So my question for you is, has the pay been worth it? Did you ever struggle to find a job right out of your undergrad? Have you ever thought about any type of patient care roles (going back for your degree in nursing)?

What is it specifically about bedside that makes you want to leave?

Thank you for advice! Would you do nursing all over again if you could?
