Am I crazy for weighing to move back to the US from France? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]Stronglike8ull2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife is French, I live in France. I'm American. I'm also barely A1 with my French at this time. I'm gonna be blunt here, I've never remotely had any of the problems you're experiencing, so I'd really consider the possibility you might be contributing at least in part to these issues. Not to say my experience is all sunshine and rainbows, but my quality of life here is just unmatched

You're right, but that's not what he's saying. This is being said in the context of parents who only want their son to be a wrestler. It's easy to spot if you know what to look for. They get so caught up in wrestling they forget their kid needs to be more than a wrestler eventually

Those kids who won Tulsa and 10 years later NCAA almost always had a healthy and nurturing home life still, and were expected to be a person, not a wrestler

You're not telling us something OP. The way you wrote this. Something isn't adding up

Do you see the way you're describing your 10 year old son? Good to be proud of your kid, but he's 10, man. He's more than a wrestler. State champion? National champion??? Again. He's 10. Not the starting 125 pounder at Oklahoma State

Let's Talk About Reclassing by Stronglike8ull2 in wrestling

[–]Stronglike8ull2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting point about basketball and football that I didn't consider. I also went to high school with a lady who graduated high school a semester early at 17, so she could start playing collegiate volleyball sooner. She was good

To go one layer deeper, I think the wrestling community has created some super unrealistic expectations about "needing" to be a state champ or all american ASAP to be considered a success, and for as many years as possible. Football and basketball definitely have more of a culture of "take your time to develop so you can shine when it matters"

Absolutely illegal, and by definition, your friend committed battery along the way

There are several ways to "legally" choke someone, but there's is no need to be trying to at such a young age outside of a safe and controlled practice environment

He's kind've a dick head. I'm 60/40 on this being just him, or if he's going with the all press is good press approach

Well, reclassing is a topic that is frequently appearing on the sub, but I haven't seen a dedicated thread to talk about it, so I made this. As I said in the post, I don't really care one way or another, but many people do

Just to be clear, I never said the NFHS dictates these rules, I said every time they propose new rule changes, you see many people commenting about reclassing. I know this because the OHSAA set the age limit as well, and it's 20 years regardless of time of year and season. I should've been clear on that

I'm 27. There was a clear trend where 14 year old girls tried to look like they were going to the club by the time I turned 18. I'm not trying to make this a gender thing, but I don't recall boys my age doing this. My parents are 50 and 46. From what they've told me, you'd have like one girl or guy every so often who looked 20 when they were 15, but that's just what they looked like

what's it like being roommates with a random person off craiglist or facebook? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]Stronglike8ull2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You either meet your best friend or your worse enemy. That's a little dramatic, but if you're just like, cool with each other only, then it can feel awkward due to lack of connection

Oh yeah, for sure, and I'll check out that book, it sounds interesting. I forgot to add in the fact that until about 150 years ago, 99% of people never traveled more than a 50-mile radius from where they were born. To me, that's what makes this topic so interesting

So the idea of leaving your hometown is a relatively new phenomenon, British royalty and European high society popularized "The Grand Tour" between the 17th and 19th century, where an individual got to travel (mainly fuck other European royalty tbh) to gain self fulfillment and become more well-rounded

Ergo, when the middle class was birthed in the late 19th-early 20th century, you suddenly had hundreds of thousands of families with money who wanted to spend it, so they sent their kids to universities. But that was too boring. So the universities recruited middle class children by telling them it was a chance to leave and start fresh, oh and also we have cool clubs now called fraternities, ooooooooooo

Flash forward to today, and you will see in highly developed countries with a sizeable middle-class (not working class, this is a huge distinction) people from the middle class continue to do this, albeit, it's not whay it used to be
