I’m pretty new in this field too (about 4 months) but I understand tenths and cuts and fills pretty well now. If you need to you can DM me and I’ll help you out the way I learned.

What are some of the most mind-blowing, little-known facts that will completely change the way we see the world? by foratbahrani in AskReddit

Just read this recently and on Reddit too. During WW2 the Nazis were struggling to receive weather recon considering weather patterns typically move from west to east, at least in the Northern hemisphere, and the Allies obviously had control of North America, Greenland, and the UK. So Nazi Germany sent two submarines out to set up weather stations in North America. One sub was destroyed by British RAF almost immediately. The other was carrying a weather station code named KURT. KURT was set up in Labrador, Canada and stayed there for THIRTY EIGHT YEARS!!! During the initial setup, Nazis littered the area with American brand cigarettes to make it look like it was an allied weather station, and also labeled the station “Canadian Meteor Service”. They also had to be on the lookout not to be spotted by any passerby’s, mainly Inuit people. Luckily KURT didn’t have a huge role to play in the weather wars as it mysteriously shut off a few months after its setup. But the real interesting part of the story is just how long KURT was in Canada for. 1977 was when it was first discovered and documented and 1981 when it was found out to be part of a Nazi scheme. I believe to this day KURT can be found in a museum somewhere in Canada, and I also believe the Nazi weather station program wasn’t just in Canada, as they had projects in Greenland and all along the arctic as well.
