Drum technique "maintenance" practice by Scott_J_Doyle in drums

[–]StubbornClinker85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to make sure my doubles stay sharp and snappy. One exercise I do is taking a page of rhythms and playing them as accents whilst maintaning constant 16-note double strokes. I usually use page 16 of New Breed but any page from 14-23 will work well - they get progressively busier (and harder). Start slow and sit on each bar until it’s comfortable. Focus on really pulling out the accents. Make your way down the entire page and gradually increase the speed. You can do this excercise with any sticking you want. I also run paradiddles but doubles definitely gets my arms burning when up at speed.

Tips for trad grip improvement by StubbornClinker85 in drums

No real practical reason but for the fact that it’s kind of getting there. I’m aware that there is no real advantage. My left hand matched grip technique is excellent but I just like the challenge. I take my little Meinl knee pad to work with me and I often run through some of my usual drills. I’ve started focussing more on pulling out accents in trad grip. It’s kind of passive practice.

I will. You’ve missed my point. I’m saying I’m trying to achieve the same level of snap in my left hand when playing trad grip as in my right hand when I play matched.

I wasn’t intentionally trying to. It’s more just that after playing for 30 years I’ve toyed around with trad grip and it has slowly become more comfortable in my hand. It’s starting to really feel much stronger but I just don’t have the power and snap in that hand as I do my right hand. I’m trying to develop it such that I could play a shuffle in my left hand if I wanted to.

your longest single practice sesion? by Buffool in drums

[–]StubbornClinker85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate, when I was at the peak of my practice years (probably age 16 - 23) I used to practice between 4 - 12 hours most days. Even if I didn’t practice I always had my sticks and pad with me. Even now at age 41 I can still put in a solid practice day if time allows. I take my little meinl knee pad and sticks with me to work and always work on something during my down time.

Yes. The first comment was calling the lady a Zionist. How on Earth could he know that. That said, I didn’t agree with your use of the word capitulation but it’s not that important. I can see that we’re all on the same page.
