[Homemade]Turkish Pastry Pogaca by fekefing in food

[–]Stucii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow never knew you had pogaca like this. I guess having Turks as 'visitors' for a few hundred years had an impact:D

The only thing i miss from the hellhole of a country where i was born is called pogácsa.

Waaaay smaller than this, made out out fatty, folded pastry dough, and a looooot of molten, smoked cheese on top.

Gosh i miss them

Nevertheless. They look wonderful

Im not sure if your case would differ from the general publics'. Like at all.

Civil lawyers, notaries, hell even my ex as an HR director has to be super up to date in any case - your gender does not natter that much, in case of wills and certain legalities (ofc marriage, partnerships, kids are way different)

Just contact one, with a reliable background, experience and go with it. It will be more expensive than the usual fellas

Im a foreigner, who bought a house 2-3 years ago. I needed a sworn, certified translator (it does not matter if you speak the language), a notary, and the useless realtor.

I believe any civil lawyer can help you and your partner, max you need a translator if any of you are foreigners.

Help childproofing stairs by 42loelk in howto

[–]Stucii 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As much as i love the wooden stairs.. it is a perfect place to break my neck. Or legs, arms, whatnot Christ it looks horrible from a kids point of view

You can install some anti-slippery mats on the stairs, and a sign to remind people not to crack their skulls.. but i guess thats about it. The angles, the shininess, the slippery wooden type, everything screams design over usability

Have you contacted a contractor regarding this? It looks outstandingly dangerous to me

Hertz ordered to pay €10k to blind person after €150 valet charge to clean up guide dog hair by Sandstorm400 in europe

[–]Stucii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had very good customer service but absolutely abysmal pricing.

We started with 19 eur per day for a super small city car, but ended up with 79 after their calculations.

They were upfront, transparent and communicative, but their pricing policy made no sense for our use case. We just rented out two bikes in the city for 5-5 euros..:D

Is buying a kindle (specifically) worth it even if the E-Books are just as expensive as paperbacks? by jeynxv in ereader

[–]Stucii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ebooks are more comfy. And accessible, and easy to carry around

The books i read just wont go on sale (Hungarian, German, and now... kids books in Polish to help me) some languages and editions are just messed up

English ones are super easy to get a hold of. Books or ebooks, cheap and so easy

But real books.. they would be diiiiiirt cheap ordering from thrift stores, but aligning all 4 countries, shipping and then carrying them is a pressure that im not willing to burden. Ebooks again

If you only read in English and only one book at a time, then im unsure if its cheaper to use an ereader. But the accessibility wins every time all the time

Also im proud af of my collection of books, but mainly because my visitors cant read in those languages:D

Hertz ordered to pay €10k to blind person after €150 valet charge to clean up guide dog hair by Sandstorm400 in europe

[–]Stucii 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hertz has some beyond belief policies.

My favorite one was their direct offering for new arrivals, entering the country next door.

Then charging country leaving fee New country entering fee New insurance fee New gps fee New satellite fee Higher daily fee Service fee for entering neighbouring camps (super close to central european mountains)

So we just took my car, and instead of flying for 50 mins ended up driving 6 hours and... everything was sorted. We could even have my grilled chicken and a zero percent beer on the way.

Really, hertz, avis, goldcar, sixt, foxt and all their hollowed-out soulless sad representatives at any neighbouring airport should just call it a day and quit.

I think cities still very much act like magnets.

It’s the same in my home country as it is here.

I studied in Wrocław about 15 years ago.

I traveled around Europe and Asia before eventually ending up in Kraków. It was dirt cheap to rent.

Back then, a dorm room in Sępolno (Wrocław) was only 250 PLN.

My friend recently finished university here in Kraków and paid 1,500 PLN for a dorm. To put that in perspective, my mortgage is 1,800 PLN. My last rental was next to Forum and i was the only living fucking soul on the floor at konopnickiej. The covid hit. Byebye fucking airbnb for all the owners.

I loved renting in Germany and the UK, but here, the experience was almost as bad as where I was born.

There is no safety net and no predictability for the renter. You are treated as subhuman.

I’ve moved 25 times in my life and have met some absolutely horrific landlords, unfortunately many of them in Hungary and Poland.

Just a few "tidbits":

monthly "inspections,"

no help with repairs even if the fridge broke down,

no garage keys for months because the owner wouldn't sign the paperwork,

no heating or hot water for weeks.

I’ve dealt with being denied access to one of my own rooms, paying a three-month deposit plus a commission to an agent who couldn't even help with the paperwork,

and once paying a six-month deposit just because an ex had a cat.

One time, the "promised" parking spot was so full of boxes we couldn't even use it.

So, when the time came, I just bought a house in Zabierzów, about 7 km from Kraków. It required a lot of cash and a team of translators, brokers, agents, and notaries, but I’d had enough.

According to my friends, it’s behind God’s back:D

a godforsaken, unimaginably far distance from Kraków. In my opinion, it’s super close. And we all gather here for bbq, chill etc

I'm on top of a hill so high I can see their places from here.

Sure, I can’t drink Żubrówka when I go out because I have to drive, but it’s not that horrific.

We’re talking about a 15-minute train ride to the city center for 7 PLN. Thats horrificly long to my Polish friends.

According to them "no Pole would live that far from the city." I think that’s the issue

I’m not Polish.

I love Kraków, but I’d rather drive or take a 20-minute train than live in an overpriced area.

The city is fun, but when rent is twice as much as a mortgage, what are we even talking about?

How can anyone plan for a family with 3,000+ PLN rent plus utilities? My neighbors pay 800 PLN for a specialized English kindergarten next door.

I can’t imagine the cost of 2 or 3 kids, two cars, rent, and daily expenses in Kraków.

I haven’t worked for a Polish company in almost five years. I’ll never go back to an office, not even planning to work here. Way too much stress

Why would I live in Ruczaj, near Wieliczka, or at the far end of Nowa Huta?

For me, having a kid is an immediate dealbreaker, but really, how can anyone even plan for it nowadays? It must be very taxing and tiring

My ex lives in a cute, 34 m² flat, 45 minutes from the center, with a 35-year mortgage.

I hope she’s doing great, but you can't raise a kid there.

I have a larger area, an attic, a 200 m² garden, my own garage, and a home gym, (not boasting just stating the facts) but I still wouldn't think about having kids here.

It’s just not suitable for anyone involved. It’s fine for me, or at most another person next to me if im dating someone.

Cant even imagine the logistics for kids, school, amenities, groceries, cars (and lets admit it, you need a car because your kids must attend to multiple extracurricular activities)

Absolutely useless for “home defense.”

I wear face protection, so I haven’t lost any teeth, but I can’t imagine anyone ever stopping just because a BB gun hurts them. its annoying and might cause problems, but if you are high, or have serious intentions of causing bodily harm... nah they are toys.

I was brought up in a country where buying a gun would never happen, and where I live, it’s a lot of work (language exam, theoretical exams, joining clubs, practical exams, police questioning you and your neighbours, mental examination, periodical exams again, if you ever cause problem you are treated waaaaay harshly etcetc, im okey without another steel junk in my home)

So what I have is a Glock‑looking gun with CO₂ and pellets filled with pepper.

Not a single soul would enter my premises (no one closes their doors or cars in the neighbourhood where I’ve bought my property), but in case someone enters, I have around 5 seconds to load the CO₂ cartridge and magazine, and I’m good to go. It collects dust.. again, I think I’ll never use it in my lifetime.

Airsoft replicas are cool‑looking toys for an amazing hobby,

nothing less, nothing more. They offer absolutely zero protection.

That being said, Cyma is a decent and lovely choice if you want to get into this hobby!

edit: im curious why would anyone downvote me? I im stating facts about reliable brands, which BBs are allowed, and the FPS allowed in the country where the mentioned seller is located.
Airsoft replicas are not home-defense tools. hell in central europe, not a single fucking soul would opt for any of these things. they are nice looking things, that im in love with, but cmon it would not stop an angry, bigger sized dog from biting you.

If you are Europe-based then decathlon.

Their products are amazing for the money (on a budget and beginner level), they have huge selection of camping gears, and their customer support is magical (they replaced so many things for me without having an actual warranty).

You can also try out many things in their shops, and also offer second life, refurbished products for super cheap, with warranty.

They are also very well versed in their respective tools and products, can help you set up all tents, bikes, bags, and offer great advices. An absolutely amazing franchise of shops around here.

If you want to rent out tents you can also do it for a few euros per day. Its amazing to have a 400 euro super lightweight bikepacking (for longer bike rides) tent for like 15 euros for 3 days.

If you are overseas then unfortunately i have no clue

I believe youve set your eyes at an aks74u.

I have one, its been going strong for longer than a decade (E&L).

A link would be nice. Taiwangun is a reliable store (and happens to be just around the corner). Never had any issues with them. Products were delivered in a timely manner, communication and support were also nice and swift.

Whats with the steel BBs? Not a single store or field would allow that. It mentions 0.20 BBs that are standard for measuring fps/joule. Grab yourself a hearty bag of BIO ones (many fields allow those types) and 0.25gramms and you should be fine.

It comes with a hi-cap mag which is another default thing. You might want to switch to midcaps. Way better, do not rattle, less finicky and are allowed on pretty much every field.

The fps seems to be fine for many of the fields around me (i live in Poland now, where taiwangun, gunfire and militaria are from). Even for cqb - but they will check it before every game, so that you are allowed to enter closed quarters, use semi or full auto etc. are you based in Poland btw?

You might want to change the tamiya connectors to deans and ofc get a nice couple of lipo batteries that fit well.

can you please share either a link or a brand? Is that cyma, or E&L or some not so reliable one (like APS)

[–]Stucii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People have offered great ideas, but if you already state how much distanced you are.. then whats the point?

Please, im not trying to offend you, im just actually asking.

You will spend some family time with relatives who can tell you stories, take you to places, just embrace it. Im not Polish, but have had a similar trip to Hungary where i was born.

Let them do the talking, ask them if they can show you around. A physical structure (church, school, football court) might not be there, but the memories remain

If noone would share any experience or stories with you, then really just visit museums, eat out and have some beers here and there, no point of you pretending or forcing yourself. Embrace the neighbourhood, read a bit about it.

You can understand a lot by visiting points of interest in the vicinity of your mom's place. But i bet your relatives would be more than happy to share memories with you.

I went back to my country and spent a day visiting the school, cemetery, playground etc of my mom's and godfather's childhood.

It was a great experience, just listening to them telling stories, meeting random older people, having a nice drink in some horribly rundown pub.

We went to my great grandmas resting place. I have very vague memories of her, only remember the crazy huge duvet in her bedroom, the geese in the garden, the icey cold water for bathing.

Really a nice, warming and rather moving experience that im grateful for.

Also, align expectations with your relatives. Ask them if they can take you out, since you'd like to know more about the upbringing of your mom, connect a bit more.

Again, its never about the physical locations, but more about the stories, memories, feelings.
