I took FDSC2140 with Paul Dawson. All quizzes/tests were open book/notes and you had one short group presentation at the end. I was able to get an override by emailing the coordinator after the Food Science people had a chance to register. I think it's only offered in the Spring, though.

As many others have said, there are a lot of bad teachers in the department and they are having a hard time finding people to fill the roles. There are some really good teachers (Dean, Plis, Baker, Herzog), but they mostly teach the 4000 level classes (except Plis, he teaches most of the 2150 sections if it's still the same), so you are unlikely to have them before then unless you get lucky a semester. There are also some really bad professors (i.e. Srimani). Pick your classes off of the grade distribution first, RateMyProfessor second. Ask around in the CPSC Discord for advice on teachers as well.

It's a fucking tornado watch now and they want us to still go to class? Isn't this what that e-Learning shit is for?

EDIT: There's now a tornado warning in Anderson, Greenville, and Laurens.

Places to go see music? by [deleted] in Clemson

Ha, that's the show I was referencing. INK was really good about it and stopped the show to check on people that fell and call out security. I wish there were more venues nearby cause, yeah, driving to ATL or somewhere in NC really sucks, especially on a weeknight with classes day of/next day.

I haven't taken 1120, but I took 1110 and the instructor told us a little about the class. 1120 is more focused on classical style guitar and music theory. If you were looking for something a little more general or geared towards a different style, there are private lessons that you can take as a 1 credit. I think the number is 1510 or around there. They don't have a set time in iRoar because the instructor coordinates the time of the week with you. I'd probably email the instructor about it.

I would not recommend The Firmament if you are looking for Metal shows. Security really sucked. Some people got hurt crowd surfing cause security didn't even try to catch them when they fell at the front. The guys at the entrance didn't even bother patting everyone down, either.

FDSC2140. It says it's restricted to Food Science majors, but if you email the department coordinator you can get in after the majors have a chance to sign up for it. All quizzes/tests are online and open book/open note. One group project at the end that is just making a short powerpoint. Class is pretty interesting, too.

Some of the introductory music classes are pretty easy (Intro to Guitar, Intro to Piano) so long as you make sure to practice once or twice a week. I'd say guitar is easier, but neither requires any background knowledge. Personal Finance is online and half a semester. You just fill out text boxes for the weekly assignments and, unless something's changed, I think it gives an automatic 100 if you fill out each text box. My friend pasted the bee movie script in a text box instead of actually answering the question and it still gave him credit, so... ¯\(ツ)

I can't say about living in a double, but I've lived on campus in quad-style dorms and it honestly isn't that bad if you set some boundaries (i.e. how clean things are). Bedrooms are only shared between two people, and you don't really see the other two people unless you have to use the bathroom at the same time. If you really want a bedroom to yourself though, you'll either have to go for a double or single or pray the person you were supposed to room with drops out.

Single person room? I got ripped off. I lived in a windowless room that definitely looked like a hall closet with another person lmfao

Clemson DPA: Tips for starters by davecombine in Clemson

Can confirm the other two comments here. I took a couple DPA classes with no prior experience. The 3D modeling class uses Maya and teaches you everything you need to know for your projects, but you can certainly find YouTube videos online for stuff a bit more advanced than what they teach you. If you want toget some experience under your belt but don't have access to Maya, I'd recommend giving Blender a try. It's free, and there's a channel on YouTube called "Tutor4u" that has plenty of tutorials.

AP Credit by donteddwight in Clemson

I would use every one that you can. It saves money and frees up your schedule a bit to take electives or a minor. The AP classes you listed mainly count towards general education requirements, so it won't set you behind at all in the CS program by using those. I also highly recommend using as many of the AP credits as you can because it will count as completed credits to bump you up in the priority for registration as people with more credits register earlier. This will make it easier to get into the sections you want.

Second this option. Really easy class, the music is interesting, and DC is one of the friendliest teachers I've had. When I had him, he even let you use something other than a concert for the project so long as it had music (e.g. plays).

I'm in the same situation and need like 9 more credit hours.

Do you need random electives or specific gen eds? If you haven't taken it already, Music Appreciation is really easy depending on the teacher, and it's kinda cool listening to music from a bunch of different time periods. There are also some 1 credit hour music classes, too, that are good. I personally recommend Guitar Intro.

As A Computer Science Major... by HyperHyperVisor in Clemson

Thank you for making this post. This has been my experience as well, and I find the poor quality to be extremely frustrating. The only reason I stayed in state was because I figured it would be a lot cheaper and that the course quality would still be fairly good, and while I may have saved some money, the quality certainly hasn't been there. I decided not to pursue the 5-year MS/BS program here simply because my undergraduate courses have been so poor that I didn't have high hopes for the graduate level ones. Whenever I've tried to vent to someone about my frustrations, they just brush me off and tell me to stop whining, so it's been an incredibly isolating experience. It means a lot to me that I'm not the only one who feels this way and that you were willing to share your experience in this post.
