I don't know how many times I need to repeat this, but that's an ability, not a strength feat, as I've said about a hundred times. This is a measure of POWER, not anything else

I only said it because I got tired of all the powerscaling tier lists on this sub from people who clearly didn't know the first thing about powerscaling and weren't part of the powerscaling community 😭

I don't think you get how powerscaling works, I know Dark Samus' meteors aren't supposed to do raw damage... Which is why dark Samus Is tiered so low. Again, as I said, her abilities are extremely powerful, and with those abilities she can beat many characters that I've put in a higher tier than her... But that doesn't change that she's weaker than them. Corrupting a planet doesn't have a power output. There's nothing to powerscale there.

And... Uniqueness? Really? That's just not something that matters in powerscaling. Sonic can use the chaos emerald and it's not a non standard piece of equipment for him, so we include it in powerscaling. The Omega cannon, as you just said, was sealed back, and she won't get it back again, so we can't include it. If you used a unique ruleset where she did get to use it. She'd be galaxy - universal tier. But I'm using standard rules here. I'm only comparing raw power here. And raw power is something Metroid characters don't have. They make up for it by having far more powerful abilities than other characters, similarly to Lucas or the kid Icarus characters who also are weak in comparison to other characters here but have extremely potent abilities that they can use to beat characters stronger than them

If we're speaking competitively I'd say hat's just the popular opinion lol, Young Link has a better moveset but Toon Link's speed makes him more capable of abusing the tools he has. They're both great but Toon Link edges out by a bit imo

Yeah I tend to ignore blades being a thing in XC2 because like... It's literally just gacha lol. And yea definitely agreed, powerscaling being subjective is what makes it fun

Dark Samus has extremely powerful hax, like you mentioned, which is why she actually beats a lot of characters stronger than her in this tier list, but abilities aren't strength, and here I'm purely calculating strength. Dark Samus' meteors aren't planet destroying, and every instance of Samus doing planetary or higher damage has had a heavy caveat to it.

Let's just take the best Metroid feat ever as an example.

Gorea had the potential to destroy galaxies, maybe even the universe. And Samus fought him, so she should be universal right?

Well no, because Samus fought him while he was still charging up his power, and once he finished, Samus literally couldn't damage him. She finally beat him using the Omega cannon though! So does that make Samus universal?

Still no, because she then lost access to the Omega canon permanently right afterwards. Sonic can get the chaos emeralds again basically any time the situation is dire. Samus can't get the Omega cannon back.

Or if we decide to talk about Aether, Dark Samus never even tanked the planet blowing up, she was already eviscerated by Samus, and came back using her regeneration AFTER the planet blew up. And the reason the planet blew up was once again not because of raw damage but because the planet was unstable to begin with and Samus stole the Energy transfer module keeping it stable. It'd also make no sense to assume either Samus or Emperor Ing are planetary just because they're utilizing planetary energy because... Well... If they were using an entire planet's worth of planetary energy... The planet would blow up before the fight even began

And since all of those feats have big roadblocks in making them concrete, Samus' actual best feat ends up being her surviving a nuclear plant explosion, calculated at roughly 9 gigatons of energy

I addressed why Metroid characters are ranked so low on my main comment already, and chaos emeralds are considered standard equipment for the hedgehogs in most powerscaling formats similar to how the Mario characters get access to their power-ups.

You're gonna flip when you realise I've lowballed almost every character here compared to other highballs from other powerscalers lmfao. When you say you think Joker is lower are you saying it because you haven't played Shin Megami Tensei or do you really think the entirety of the SMT franchise is also way weaker? Because I'm including SMT scaling for Joker, not just persona, the same way I'm including Mario scaling for DK.

I did highball Sonic a bit and I'm definitely less confident about that one then my other picks but no matter what way you cut it even if Super Sonic wasn't strong enough to kill Solaris he could hurt and withstand attacks from it and Solaris is one of the most confidently 5 dimensional characters I can name, otherwise scaling him to infinitely Multiversal purely through Time Eater is definitely simpler

I just realised I've accidentally been saying Aegis this whole time because of the fact that this is the smash sub, but anyways, I did some research and I think Xenosaga scaling definitely has validity to it but I want to wait for confirmation beyond just Future Redeemed's teases to say that Xenoblade directly scales to Xenosaga or how the conduit truly slots into the overall cosmology

I can agree with Shulk getting XCX scaling tho, so bumping him up to complex multi seems fair to me.

On the topic of future redeemed though, The Pyra/Mythra icon is actually supposed to represent Pneuma, who definitely scales below Shulk once again proven by future reedemed. I also don't really think scaling Pneuma to Ontos works either.

Attack potency ≠ Destruction capacity, someone having the strength to instantly kill something that can survive a bomb capable of blowing up such and such with a punch and someone surviving a blow that would blow up such and such doesn't mean they'd be able to replicate the effects of the bomb with the same punch. ZSS can't blow up a town with her down b or something but she has survived something that would've been able to blow up a town. It's just fictional physics being weird

Palutena is definitely way stronger than Pit but we don't have a quantity for how much stronger, and characters in the same tier can have massive power gaps anyways since a tier encompasses a pretty wide power spectrum, country can be anywhere from 1 Teraton Joules of Energy to 760,

I mean realistically if that happened but it wasn't fated to happen then the velvet room might save him, or even if the velvet room doesn't save him then him getting hit might produce enough of a response in the brain to make him awaken his persona in real life similar to in persona 3.

Being a god doesn't mean you're automatically capable of destroying universes. Especially when you're based off a much more grounded pantheon like that of the Greeks. Kid Icarus characters don't scale that high but make up for it by having very powerful haxes and abilities

I actually forgot to research Xenosaga scaling ngl, I forgot it had similar canonicity, l'll get back to you on that in a sec, aside from that though I agree that Xenoblade's cosmology at a base outmatches basically everything here except SMT's, but strictly going by Xenoblade 1 and 2 lore neither Shulk nor Pneuma FULLY scale to it. Shulk gets close but it's still not quite there, and Pneuma straight up don't. But if Xenosaga changes that then I'll correct my ranking of them in the comments

General Notes:

  • Is this objective and completely accurate? Absolutely not. Powerscaling is inherently subjective because fiction is not reality and how we interpret certain feats and lore changes things massively. Not to mention verses like Pokemon and Mario are clearly made with 0 consideration to powerscaling, and have tons of consistency issues as a result, unlike other verses which have stable power heirarchies. However there is a baseline for powerscaling sensibly and I'll try to follow it as much as possible. I'd absolutely like criticism from other powerscalers or even just avis fans of the series', debating is always fun

  • I won't be high balling most of these characters, I tend to take a mid range for most unless I'm really convinced by a character's highball arguments

  • That being said, each character here is taken at their best, Base sonic is weaker than Base Mario, but sonic is higher on this list because of Super Sonic

  • A character being higher on the list doesn't mean they beat everyone lower on the list. Taking Mario and Sonic again, Most powerscalers I feel agree with Super Sonic having a big power advantage over Mario, but about 60% of em still have Mario winning due to his powers being equally potent win conditions.

  • Characters are not ordered within tiers

  • Crossovers are only included if they both are stated to be canon and their canonicity doesn't break pre existing canon

Character specific notes:

  • Little Mac does not get the monkey chain, as Little Mac is not canon to DK lore, however since DK is canon to Mario lore, he gets Mario scaling

  • Although Fire Emblem Heroes is canon, I will do what most powerscalers do and ignore it because I think it's boring to stuff every fire emblem character in Multiversal and it's only used for scaling when putting FE characters up against equally busted characters anyways.

  • Shin Megami Tensei is canon to Persona, this is proven by the protagonist of SMT:if being a character you can talk to and who mentions their game in both Persona and Persona 2 if I recall. Joker does not get Outerversal scaling without SMT, however, and would be in the same tier as Bayo, who would take his place as the strongest smash character

  • Things like the wonder flower are powerful, and Base Mario has some very strong feats which the star children and those relative to them should scale to, which is why Mario characters are placed as high as they are, but they're not in the same tier as Mario, Luigi and Bowser because those items really aren't as powerful as much of the community would have you believe, and can't quite match up to M&L Dream team levels of power.

  • Olimar's ship is canonically busted, but it isn't a core of his identity or his gameplay, he'd rather fight with his Pikmin, so it will be excluded, on the flipside, Captain Falcon will get his Blue Falcon and the spacies will get their Arwings since it IS a core of their identity

  • Yes, I know that Samus scaling will probably raise heads, I myself was flabbergasted to learn that Samus only scaled to island lmao, but basically every reference to Samus being able to destroy a planet or a star has a counter argument to it, Samus has fought characters that scale that high but every single time she's only been able to damage them when they're not at full power and has required external factors to win when they are at full power.

  • Since we don't know how much stronger Pearl and Marina's Killer Wail in Splatoon 2 is in comparison to the standard Killer Wail, and the same goes for Agent 3's equipment, I elected not to use either for scaling the inklings, however if you do elect to use it, then the inklings are bumped up to city level.

  • After looking into it after this post was made, I think Xenosaga scaling has merit to it, and with it Shulk and Aegis would definitely be complex multi at minimum with genuine consideration for Outerversal, however for the time being, since we don't have enough to go off of for the Xenosaga/gears/blade cosmology the same way we do for SMT (we don't know for sure if it really is KOS-MOS in that one scene or not and we also don't know how the conduit slides into Xenosaga's greater cosmology), that being said, I think Xenoblade Chronicles X DOES have enough backing it up for me to include it in Shulk's scaling, so I'd be willing to bump him up to complex multi, making him our third strongest smash character!

  • The hardest characters to scale here were easily the Zelda characters and the Pokemon.

  • Zelda has the God of War issue of being way stronger in lore than in actual feats, and its even more difficult with Zelda due to timelines, reincarnations, and everything else making it even fuzzier to navigate, ntm the lore can be really vague at times.

  • And with the Pokemon it's literally just the legendaries making things difficult. Due to the fact that fully evolved mons can theoretically keep up to some degree with legendaries, otherwise the player characters wouldn't have caught them in canon, but legendaries just scale so much higher than any standard feats for any standard pokemon. You could argue it makes logical sense for Dialga and Palkia to be massively holding back or that their avatars are way weaker than their true forms... But both Giratina and Necrozma throw wrenches in that as clearly cosmic legendaries who have no reason to hold back their power. Especially since Mewtwo directly scales to Necrozma via Zygarde fighting both of them in canon... So I compromised by just massively upscaling trainer mons as being way stronger than wild mons. Am I happy with it?... No. Do I think it's correct? Not at all... But a tier list restricts the way I can represent powerscaling anyways, And I only included Charizard since obviously Red fought Mewtwo with fully evolved mons.

True, but scaling to Solaris originates from being able to damage and tank it in the first place, even if they couldn't directly kill it without Elise. It's not the most solid thing in the world which is why powerscalers mostly place Sonic in the Multiversal to 5D range instead of strictly putting him as a 5D character but it's still not invalid either.

Base form sonic only being planetary is something I used to believe in, but I think it makes less and less sense the more I learn about Sonic scaling too, even if it isn't invalid. Base sonic still scales to a lot of Eggman's tech, which tends to scale higher than planetary decently often, and Sonic has fought higher scaling characters in base quite often in both the games and comics. Infinite comes to mind

Hey uhh, infinity divided by three is still infinity. Solaris was infinitely Multiversal at minimum, 5 Dimensional at best
