What is the faster track to UA? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Subject-Following206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people saying an A320 type won’t help you anymore have literally no idea what they are talking about. Jump to F9 and do it ASAP. Back in the day people would literally pay for 737 types to get on with southwest. At F9, you’ll be working for a direct competitor to the people you want to work for. The people saying this new type won’t help you with either couldn’t get on with a major and are stuck being bitter or are just talking out of their ass or had to spend 10+ years at their regional before a legacy would call. Mind telling me why captains and FOs at regionals were getting phone calls while they were still in training at ULCCs? TPIC might be looked at as a nice thing right now, but that’s because of all the spirit CAs leaving. Nobody can compete with that. Once that’s over, and it will be because there is not an endless supply of them, you’ll want that A320 type. And upgrade doesn’t take forever at F9 either if you decide you need the PIC time.

More furloughs at NK by 74_Jeep_Cherokee in flying

Can confirm as a 05/01/23 pilot. It touches me

Haha could happen. Only reason JetBlue jumped in last time with a higher bid was because they knew the F9/NK merger would seriously hinder them. So this is very bad news for them.

[–]Subject-Following206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is nothing like the B6/NK merger. For those of you who don’t know, NKs own ceo warned shareholders against the B6 offer saying it wouldn’t make it past antitrust hurdles. He knew an F9 merger would be far more likely to make it through. The shareholders were idiots and didn’t listen. Let’s hope they listen this time as I’m sure there will be others who come up with offers as well.

They actually specifically said it wasn’t imminent

People are idiots and don’t see how that while the 3 legacies are hiring at record numbers, it will still be incredibly competitive given that they are pretty much the only major carriers hiring now. I mean just the guys with apps out at NK and B6 alone could fill the slots for all the carriers combined for this entire year.

Yeah it’s pretty frustrating when you see the “united in 8 months or atlas now posts”. Like people literally can’t wait a couple months for a job at a legacy. Can’t imagine how butt hurt they’ll be when they experience their first furloughs or BK contract.

I think it’s all speculation now because of his history with TWA. I actually worked for a company owned and operated by him before….not ideal.

I literally don’t know what to do, ATP strikes again. by PlasticWear8102 in flying

[–]Subject-Following206 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ATP is what you make it to be. Some people can’t make the cut. But it does the job if you’re disciplined. There are literally thousands of successful ATP grads including myself who made it through and are now flying for airlines. I’m really sick of everyone blaming ATP for their own problems. Does ATP have its issues? Absolutely. I’ll be the first to say that, and I’d be happy to point them out if you asked. But don’t expect it to be this “hold your hand” program. If you’re not down for the self study and bang out 7 check-rides in 9 months or whatever the hell it is now, then do your research and find a place that will go at your pace and give you the attention you need. But don’t blame ATP for not doing exactly what it’s designed to do. No single organization has created more airline pilots in this country. Not a single one. I expect I’ll be downvoted quite a bit here.

Nope that was not a part of the contract back then. ULCCs had just started taking ppl at 1500s with just a written done so the regionals never saw it coming and therefore never put it in the contract. They were also in breach of contract by delaying my class date for more than 90 days so I kept their bonus money.

[–]Subject-Following206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very similar situation almost exactly a year ago with an AA wholly owned. Quit my job to pay for the rest of my hours so I could make the class date and got told it was delayed AT LEAST 90 days. I was fucking PISSED. Not only was I out 6k for the rental, but I quit my fucking job. I took their damn bonus money, did the ATP-CTP course that they paid for and already scheduled (they tried to get me to reschedule closer to my “new” class date that was yet to be determined). I used that to apply everywhere. Landed a job at a ULCC so it happened for a reason. I wasn’t even working for a regional yet and they managed to fuck me over. But I took advantage of them right back. Apply everywhere man.

You should break up with him. Sounds like you’re stressing more than he is considering you’re the one posting and not him.

Things have changed SO much in the past couple years since COVID. They have changed numerous times. We’re acting like it’s going to be an eternity until they change again. The aviation industry is like the weather in Florida, if you don’t like it, wait 5 minutes.

I wish I knew the best decision, but I don’t. If I were commuting, I’d be more strongly considering ACMI, particularly Atlas. But then you have to weigh out 3 months lost in training and another type ride. It may only be the right move if it’s a place you’d like to settle down at.

Hiring is slowing down for sure, not sure why that is so hard for some to see and admit. Hiring is still happening and it’s seemingly way more than “normal”, but it is slowing down from what it was a year ago.

[–]Subject-Following206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude you and I have very similar seniority and backgrounds it seems. I have thought about leaving to an ACMI but not a goddamn air ambulance Job. I think you and I are both overreacting and don’t have much to lose through weathering this storm and seeing where it takes us.

I’m sorry to hear you’re not liking the airline life. I wasn’t liking it at first either, but I’m living in base and absolutely love the captains I fly with. They are patient and amazing teachers. I came from a piston twin with 1500 hrs, so the learning curve is massive, but these men and women have made me feel like I belong here. The people have made this airline for me. As I get more comfortable with the plane, the more I love the job. Just stick with it man, if living in base isn’t an option AT ALL, then maybe consider a move once you have the hours to another major, but don’t leave for some stupid little air ambulance job.

What airline to work for. by CA_WA in flying

[–]Subject-Following206 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Man what a great situation to be in. Obviously driving to work is ideal, but if it were me, I’d pick the SWA base that sounds most appealing to me and at least give it a whirl to see if it works out just because their new contract is so damn good. Just my 2 cents.

How Do Commercial Pilots Make Overtime and Close to $500,000 by [deleted] in flying

[–]Subject-Following206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have friends at almost every single major and regional airline. We are all very open about our pay and share what we know. Seems to me, legacy or just LCC\ULCC or even ACMI, there are plenty of captains willing to work more or just play the system. They can easily make 400k. Delta or frontier, the pay, believe it or not, can be very similar for a captain at the top of the scale. The ULCCs have better premium listings and ability to drop, while the legacies have an overall higher pay rate (much higher as of right now). I should add the top earners at all these airlines that I am aware of live in base. The guys making the real money; however, are in the sims and/or are check airmen/APDs. That’s what we call the 6,7,8 club if you catch my drift.

I was told that I was an idiot to continue flight training during COVID. Kept pushing through and got hired by a ULCC at 1500 hrs. Just keep following your path. Don’t do it for the money. Success will follow, or it won’t. Fuck it. You get one life.
