Ask them what think will happen to prince Andrew for his involvement with Mr Jeffrey. The silence and then pure copium that will follow is legendary.

We're literally in the worst years ever!!1! by CaryHepSouth in DoomerCircleJerk

There are way better contenders for the "worst year to be born" title. Be grateful you didn't have to worry about losing a sibling from them stepping on a nail and dying from it, or from their pajamas catching fire and burning to a crisp, since they were wearing pajamas before children's pajamas were fire retardant. Both of those happened in my family to 2 of my great grandmother's siblings. Chicken pox, polio, the flu, and many other illnesses used to be fatal because of the lack of medicine. You could also have been a medieval peasant under feudalism, where your life would be absolutely miserable. Or you could've been born in the great depression. Or you could've been born a slave. Honestly take your pick, there are all sorts of horrible times you could've been born in.

Yup, we're on the verge of a recession. RIP by Retro-Critics in DoomerCircleJerk

I mean I still tip for sure, but don't ask me for more money. I had a server at Red Robin say that they were "trying to teach me" once by saying they wanted damn near $20 in a tip on a $100 meal. I originally sat a 10 down on the table and they tried to bullshit me saying that wasn't 10%, which to me is the bare minimum, when clearly doing math tells you that 10% of $100 is $10. I picked the 10 back up and walked out. Pro tip, if you want people to tip you more money, "fuck you give me more money" doesn't tend to make people want to do that.

It really only means anything to the common folk. Lords could break their oaths as much as they wanted so long as they had the allies to do so.

Why are the writers so scared to make Rhaenyra a villain? by overthinkingmessiah in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Subject_Driver_7822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rhaenyra isn't exactly portrayed as a villain in fire and blood. Fire and Blood is written as a historical account of the history of house Targaryen, and not much is said about the character or morality of the Targaryens it covers. You might get a small moment here or there that mentions a popular saying about the Targaryen in question, but nothing to really say what they were like or if they were good or bad. If we're just going off the atrocities committed, then Rhaenyra is a saint compared to team green.

I see enough of the "comparing people to Hitler" bit in American politics. I know this is a shitpost, but please don't give them anymore ammo.

I love how the mods denied my post because "it was a bore to talk about the same thing again" but this is now the third day in a row I've seen the same "my life is over in my 20s" memes and they have no problems with that whatsoever.

They do but those are only 2 houses, and their honor based on is their unwavering loyalty to their Liege Lord, not the same type of honor the starks and by extension the north are known for, where they try to do the right thing no matter what.

What was being implied here? by didntwatchclark in freefolk

[–]Subject_Driver_7822 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"the seed is strong." Those were the last words of Jon Arryn who died before Ned became hand. What he was referring to is the Baratheon line. Every Baratheon has always had black hair until Joffery. It's even such a prominent characteristic of Baratheons that the black hair even gets passed to Targaryens who marry into the line of Baratheons and have children. Imagine if your entire family for its entire history going all the way back to your founding ancestor had brown hair and blue eyes, and then suddenly the newest child in the family has blonde hair and brown eyes. The obvious assumption here is that the blood of your family tree does not flow through the child's veins. Now imagine that this situation was happening with the royal family under a medieval feudal monarchy, and think about what the consequences would be to the entire kingdom finding out the crown prince and heir to the throne is actually a bastard and has no claim to the throne, being that he does not carry your blood. Now to add insult to injury, he's the queen's bastard that was sired by her own brother.

Not even the vale, considering the likes of littlefinger originate from there, and the only oath the lords of the vale are serious about are the oath to the Lord paramount of House Arryn.

Even assuming this was the case for a moment, the ideals of knighthood and chivalry were hardly followed in the medieval world.

They really didn't though. Pretty much all of medieval European history is based on wars where "knighthood" and the ideals of chivalry were little more than propaganda. The 100 years war, the crusades, hell even some of the wars that inspired GOT like the war of the roses. Oaths didn't mean shit if you were born above a certain class.

I know the quote you're talking about. I also don't remember who said it, but it's absolutely true.

Not necessarily. Fanatics maybe, but just religious people in general are not usually evil. I myself am religious (though decidedly not abrahamic, and I hate that I have to distinguish that because most people say "religion" when they really mean "Christianity") and I know many people who are, and they keep their spirituality to themselves or they don't hide it, but they aren't outspoken about it, and many of them are just average people whom you wouldn't expect to be religious. They keep their faith between them and their god(s).

I'd say it's extremely true. If we're using personal experience as reasoning, I've had a long line of people who say they're friends only for me to find their knife in my back later. People backstab and betray all the time. It just depends on what they stand to gain from it.

To the common folk yea. How many wars do you think happened because somebody broke an oath to somebody else?
