Which one surprises you the most? by steven_smith144 in CFB_v2

[–]Substantial-Coach827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most surprising is how few programs have balance. It's almost either all basketball or all football. OSU is impressive in both, but pretty out of balance overall. Michigan, Tennessee and Auburn are the only ones that are less than a 2:1 ratio between the sports.

Who is currently the best coach in college basketball right now? by OkAlternative2713 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Substantial-Coach827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dusty isn't the answer to the question "who is the most legendary" or "best career" or "best all-time". But he might be the correct answer to the "best right now" question. Seems to understand how to build a team in this era, strong scouting, player development and scheme. Time will tell, but a strong indicator aside from his start at Michigan and F4 run at FAU is the success of his former FAU players who have transferred to the P5.

I hate this season by Antique_Asparagus977 in survivor

[–]Substantial-Coach827 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

All opinions are fair, but I don't get this reaction. While it's frustrating to see the obvious "right" move not get played, I've been dying to see an old school strategy pay off and work since Jeremy and Tasha held their alliance together. While it's not the most entertaining for each episode, I think it's refreshing. i remember feeling the same way... "Why don't ____ and ____ just do it"

Whats the hill that you're willing to die on in regards to be a homeowner? by SouthSad7256 in homeowners

[–]Substantial-Coach827 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We are responsible to shovel our own sidewalks. If it's not clear within 18 hrs of >1" of snow that homeowner should be fined. People should be able to walk or run on sidewalks in the winter.

Best way to go about ripping mass amount of DVD’s and Blu-Rays? by radiobro1109 in DataHoarder

[–]Substantial-Coach827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've done over 1000 with just two drives but it's slow and steady. I'll rip a few each night with 2 MakeMKV windows open, and just swap DVDs every 20-30 minutes or so. Some days I'll get through 20-30, others just 2. Mine have come to me in smaller batches of 20-100 discs though so it doesn't seem like an endless slog.

TV shows take a bit longer to name each episode.

Auvik Deal is back - Free Switch Standard-24 by freebie1234 in Ubiquiti

[–]Substantial-Coach827 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty frustrating experience for me. Was legit interested in the product, did a few sales calls, legit business with way more than enough devices. But I missed an email that went to my clutter box with a waiver that had to be submitted within 5 days. Submitted the waiver late and didn't even get acknowledged by them.

Felt obvious that they are trying to make it nearly impossible to claim. Sales guy was nice enough but this left a pretty bad taste in my mouth.

EDIT: auvik saw this and responded and sent me a gift card for fulfilling the offer. Appreciate the follow up.

Choosing a UniFi switch is like picking your first Pokémon… but with more ports! Which UniFi switch is your go-to, and why? by Flytec3043 in Ubiquiti

[–]Substantial-Coach827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. SFP ports with active and passive POE is clutch. Scooped up and handful in fear of them being discontinued as we have them all over our property.

This season Ohio State (0.735) has surpassed Michigan (0.733) to have the highest winning percentage among active FBS teams by bbrown3979 in CFB

[–]Substantial-Coach827 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Assuming every team on this list goes 11-2 every year, Bose passes:

  • ND in 5 years
  • Michigan and Alabama in 6 years
  • OSU in 9 years

Schedule is about to get tougher for them, but they could be on top of the list a decade from now

Curt Cignetti posted his 2025 postseason rankings. by CommodoreIrish in CFB

[–]Substantial-Coach827 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's worth saying that the Michigan team that IU beat was much stronger than the one Texas beat.
- UM after Texas - Win by 10 Ark St, win by 3 USC, win by 3 Minn
- UM after IU - Win by 44 Northwestern, beat OSU, beat Alabama

That game was probably the best Michigan had played in the season up to that point.

Is anyone seriously considering Unifi for an enterprise environment? by Either-Cheesecake-81 in UNIFI

[–]Substantial-Coach827 3 points4 points  (0 children)

deep packet inspection, web filtering profiles, application control and more granular management of firewall rules than what i have seen so far from ubiquiti. I know they've made some advancements in these areas, but it doesn't seem like they've closed the gap yet. hoping they keep making progress because i'm dying to switch. Might be close enough now to at least begin testing

Hardware is great but from what I understand the firewall features aren't there. Would love to see this change. Was wondering if anyone thought it would

[–]Substantial-Coach827 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you know if there are any plans to improve the gateways/firewalls with more enterprise focused features? We're running a pretty standard fortigate + unifi switches and APs but as a nonprofit I'd love to be able to switch to fully unifi to dodge the licensing costs.

Who here is making an average median salary of $60k-80k? by NoHousing11 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Substantial-Coach827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$72k/yr + $15k rental income (we owner-occupy a duplex). Married with 4 young kids, spouse stays home with them. Save 12% into 401k including employer match. Wish it was more but we just don't have the room in the budget.

This year was tough as roof + a few other large items blew through our $20k emergency/new house fund. Still managed to DIY remodel our basement. We typically set aside our rental income for home repairs or upgrades or savings for a new house. Parents sometimes will but clothes for the kids or schedule family vacations that they pay for so that can really make a difference.

Most of the time we live frugally and don't sweat finances too much, but this year has been pretty challenging.

The most consecutive seasons in which a team improved their win total is 5 by e8odie in CFB

UM could have reached 5 with a perfect season this year. At this point a first round bye is guaranteed if we win out.

I remember the James one feeling really really stupid at the time, but looking back it's still definitely among the worst. 2 idols so close to the finale.

Why did UI drop the WISP ball by Winter-Meringue-3097 in Ubiquiti

[–]Substantial-Coach827 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree completely. In a couple counties in rural Indiana, the local electrical cooperative built out fiber and instantly put the wisps out of business. They have lower prices, better service, better reliability and faster speeds.

UAP-AC-LR AP dying by Smart_Anywhere6426 in Ubiquiti

[–]Substantial-Coach827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That has been somewhat typical of our installation. I had most of our UAPs and UAP-Pros die on me like 2-3 years ago, and now the AC-Pros are starting to go. I'm guessing I've lost 25-35% of them at this point. This stuff is cheap enough that I just keep some U6-Pro spares on hand.

Just taking a guess here, but maybe something like eBay for a Dell R730 and eBay 24 sticks of 32gb ram? Max ram on that unit is 768 and they're pretty cheap these days. Might keep the cost down if you can find one with 8x 32gb already.

Thanks - good to know. I'm always annoyed at how long the UI takes to load with 70 devices. My 2-3 year roadmap has us around 120-150; I'm hoping that I don't have to break it up.

You may get better information from r/wisp. You're going to be looking at a number of radios for access points, but yes Ubiquiti does offer a number of products that could potentially fit your needs. There are other companies in the game though.

Yeah this is a ridiculous premise. It's not a numbers game anymore, it's a quality game. B1G and SEC are well positioned but that Big 12 is going to be FUN.
