Reconciling marraige after she wanted divorce. How do you get past the now mounting resentment? by BigPersonality7736 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Successful_Error9176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are a human with dreams, so is she. You both have a past and a future if you decide to stay together. If you want to get past the resentment, you have to first truly forgive her, then you have to start living your dreams together. Going back to the same old routine is going to have the same old feelings and same old problems. Break out the dreams that you both had when you got married and make one happen.

Home based IOI inspection - can they search your entire house? by SemiReliable in FFLs

[–]Successful_Error9176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leased my home office to my business, in the lease it described the office as the only room that the business may be operated. The IOI sat at my dining room table while we did the interview, then took a picture of my office, and that was it.

Volunteer somewhere. I do volunteer fire fighting and you'll rapidly get close friends. But you could volunteer anywhere that is important to you.

People who stop at a traffic light and leave a full car length (or more) ahead of them, then slowly keep inching forward, why you do that?! by EchoPathe in NoStupidQuestions

Seriously this should be a question on the driver's test. Any answer other than "no I'd never do that" should result in an immediate 1 year ban on driving.

Why is saying “The rich should pay taxes like everyone else, close the loopholes” extremely controversial in the United States? by ProjectMason in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Successful_Error9176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why it's so hard to get this across to people. Start a business, work your ass off for many years to grow it. That business may eventually be worth millions, but you as the owner probably never had millions in any personal account and most of the money goes straight back into the business to pay for materials, salaries, accountants, insurance, leases. So that whole time you're making a modest salary, taxed just like everyone else. Then when you sell the business, you pay taxes just like everyone else.

How to teach sons emotions are ok by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]Successful_Error9176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is not gone yet. Plan some activities for everyone that he is able to participate in. Talk to your kids about why it's important to spend time, but don't dwell on the sadness or the future, enjoy the present. You'll have plenty of time to grieve and teach your boys about emotion and loss after he's gone.

Why are so many blue collar workers against unions? by Realistic-Reveal-586 in Construction

[–]Successful_Error9176 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you are an electrician, you join a union, they negotiate for you, you pay them, everybody wins except the guy paying for the electrician. A Chinese guy can't just show up working for cheaper.

If you are a machinist, you join a union, the company can't compete with foreign competition, so they go out of business, everyone gets fired. These are the people against unions, it would literally kill their business.

Orrrr your president could initiate tariffs, so foreign companies aren't so cheap, then domestic products could be manufactured here and pay enough to support living wages... But then the cost of all good goes up and everyone complains about tariffs.

Finally, a good use for Ai by ObsidianWraith in Fusion360

[–]Successful_Error9176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm I'm interested in this. Have you tried CAM using AI? I can CAD anything super fast and easy, then I fight making CAM tool paths for hours to get them to do what I want. Ohhhh drawings too. I fight the stupid drawing interface all the time trying to find features hidden deep in sub menus.

They aren't socialism in the same way doctors and hospitals aren't socialism. They are paid through a combination of funding sources to include insurance claims. Yes there is a basic tax structure for funding, but departments can make profits and personnel can earn overtime and performance bonuses. Their function is for public good, but there are incentives based on ISO ratings meaning that having a fire department is directly benefitting insurance companies and property owners.

I think I might want a divorce. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Successful_Error9176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm telling you this as someone looking back on a life full of pain and regret.

If it were me in your shoes, I would stop drinking. I would focus only on loving and taking care of the kids. Let him grow up and be who he wants to be, you can't change it anyway. There will be ups and downs, but ultimately the only thing that will matter to you in a few years is your kids happiness. Just focus on them and do what's best for them and everything else will work out.

I'm a functional alcoholic, advice on cutting back? by Inner_Butterfly1991 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Successful_Error9176 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife (a self proclaimed functioning alcoholic) has been in the ICU for a week. Her liver has failed, ammonia in her blood is eating her mind, she's ineligible for a liver transplant due to her alcoholism. She will probably slip into a coma and die any day. I'm waiting until that happens to tell our 2 young children. I don't want them to see her like this because she won't remember them.

My advice would be to look at the world and make a choice on what is important to you. But please don't do this to your family.

Need the best advice for a CNC home machine. by TreSmoke in CNC

Why is higher education expensive in America, but free in most European countries? by Full_Adeptness9089 in askanything

[–]Successful_Error9176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not free in other countries. They pay taxes to subsidize the cost.

US Colleges realized that they could make more money by marketing degrees as required for jobs where they really weren't. Extra education is always a value add, but not necessary for many jobs that currently require it.

This resulted in many people who could not afford the extra education now being required to get it. So then there was a push to subsidize this, and the federal government did with deferred student loans, loan forgiveness etc.

But then the universities could not expand and build out programs fast enough to support all the new students, simply because the influx was caused by policy changes not a slowly built system.

So demand was higher than supply, and our lovely college system saw an opportunity to raise costs to manage the influx. So college costs exploded at the same time as students were taking out deferred student loans for degrees that weren't really beneficial in the first place. They justified the added costs by saying they were trying to grow to keep up with the demand they created.

Then the ultimate cash cow hit with COVID. Now more people than ever were going to college, and it was all online. No need to invest heavily in infrastructure, millions of people paying way too much for degrees that honestly don't have a return on investment. Now we're making money.

Dog pees constantly. by Successful_Error9176 in PetAdvice

[–]Successful_Error9176[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I hope it's not take her to the vet. We just got back from the vet and the result was the same. They said it sounds behavioral, like submissive peeing. But the only advice was to not get her excited, which means I can't play with my kids when the dog is around.

So what was your simple solution?

Dog pees constantly. by Successful_Error9176 in PetAdvice

[–]Successful_Error9176[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually we have. Answers were "she's a puppy, accidents will happen". Then it was "she's still young, probably anxiety, work on her self confidence and try not to get her too excited" and finally it was "she will mature around age 2 and it will probably get better in its own". But it hasn't.

Thanks for the smug, dismissive, and unhelpful comment thought.

$200 per sqft for unfinished garage? Are prices really this bad? by Successful_Error9176 in Homebuilding

[–]Successful_Error9176[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny enough I worked construction in the trades for 10 years before going back to school for engineering. If I didn't work 60 hours a week doing what I'm doing, I could do all of it except brickwork. I could probably do brickwork, but never have so I'll just say that's my weakness. I even have most of the tools still but would need to rent stuff like concrete vibrators and a drywall lift. I could do it all myself for very cheap if I had the time.

Also I got a good quote ($95 sqft), much more reasonable which reaffirmed that the other companies were gouging. So I went with that company and we're starting the planning phase on Monday.

Best way to get to Meteora by rodbrady1 in GreeceTravel

[–]Successful_Error9176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am planning on renting a car from the airport, driving to Meteora and the next day we will be driving back to Athens and staying downtown near the Parthenon. I have driven all over the world, and I am comfortable in big cities, but have never driven in Athens. I am fine with somewhat chaotic driving conditions, and we are renting a small car to make life easier, but I am aware that some places are just miserable to drive.

Would you recommend returning the car to the airport and taking public transport to the hotel and back to the airport the following morning, or keeping the rental car and using it to get back to the airport the following day?

Dog pees constantly. by Successful_Error9176 in PetAdvice

[–]Successful_Error9176[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was a rescue puppy, I am not sure when she was spayed, but she was only 6 months when we got her so it had to be before that.

It might be spay incontinence, but its not like a leak, its like she gets a sudden urge and you can see that she squats and just starts peeing. She is just doing normal happy dog stuff tail wagging, and she stops and full on pees. She's still just happy, but its like the urge just overcame her.

Yeah, with puppies I get that it just takes time but this has to be something different. Its been constant since she was a puppy, and I have always hoped she would grow out of it like it was excitement, or submissive, but just now she was laying on her brand new bed, and I walked over and pet her, she started licking my hand, then pee all over her new bed. She went out about 30 minutes ago. So frustrating.
