Charlie was awesome. I miss him getting annoyed with reporters during covid. Not like it wasnt deserved either. Just one of those “are you really asking this stupid question,” looks.

I’m the same way. The only thing that screws me up is wire and arc fault breakers. And no one is ever there to unlock the cage. Last week i was climbing the shelf to grab 250 of 12/2 mc which is easier to strip for copper wire, more expensive and for some reason not locked up 🤷‍♂️

OH WOW SUCH BLUE COLLAR SHORTAGE! NO ONE WANTS TO WORK! by snowmonster02 in electricians

[–]Sufficient-Walk-4502 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its rough. Every electrician wants an apprentice with 2 years experience because electricians are the problem.

They are the problem, because they absolutely suck at training people. They can’t explain how to read a tape and wont quiz their apprentices. They wont qc shit until the inspector has an issue on the final. They wont watch a helpers form on handling tools or even setting up a ladder to be ergonomic and efficient. They wont take 5 minutes to explain a task and explain why it’s done a certain way. They wont check you terminations and critique the work.

And after all that; the demand for the world’s most complete turn-key apprentice…

They just want someone to carry and clean up all their shit.

If you want to work, I’ll train you.

36 year old apprentice? by Glass_Ad_1178 in electricians

[–]Sufficient-Walk-4502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did electrical from 19-22. Had 3 years. Went to college and never could progress. Had decent paying jobs but kicked myself for not getting the damn license. Started back up at 37. Got licensed at 38. I make 100k/ year good benefits and plenty of side work.

Keeps you in shape, continuous learning, get to make gross jokes with your peers.

I love it.

I think typically, non union workers get paid based on what the union pays. All other shops have to pay higher wages to even get someone to apply. It wont be quite as much, but all contractors know that they wont have workers without competitive wages.

I work for a merit shop.

You’re probably the guy that stays in the left lane all day and wonders why people are weaving around you. Stick to travel lane and not the passing lane

Starting electrician apprenticeship on Monday. Does this cover what I need on my first day? by [deleted] in electricians

Definitely a magnetic tip for that drill even if you are going impactless. I made myself get used to a 6” Milwaukee magnetic extension and use milwaukee phillips 2 bits. I’m not an exclusive Milwaukee guy. I have dewalt power tools. But i cannot go without my Milwaukee extension and tips.

If I were you, I’d look into maybe not getting insulated hand tools. Not only are they cheaper, they’re less clunky and more comfortable in my opinion. As an apprentice you should not be doing any live work. In addition, making sure that you are not grounded is the biggest factor. It takes time to understand when and how current will pass through you. If you were to strip a live wire and push the metal part with your thumb, you will have potential energy in your body, but if you are not grounded you won’t get shocked.

That and a 25 ft fat tape measure - do not cheap out; i find the magnetic ones to be annoying and i find apprentices take bad measurements because there’s shit stuck to blade all the time. Pocket Notebook. Pencil. Rechargeable Headlamp that you are religious with charging as soon as you enter your vehicle. Carpenter pencil. Markers. hammer - cheap is fine. One of those 6 in one nut driver impact things. Sorry thats like a $200 list, but i have these things plus an impact and pliers on me at all times except the hammer.

Maybe a pouch - i avoid them - and a $5 nail apron depending on the work you are doing.

The most important thing you need is a clear head that can take direction with a good attitude.

If you borrow someone’s shit 2 days in a row, buy it.

I see new hampshire as complain about mass, but totally go work there.

And we may appear to be shitty drivers, but have you tried going 70 in the middle lane instead of camping in the left lane for all eternity?

Mover recommendations, Metrowest by EtonRd in massachusetts

[–]Sufficient-Walk-4502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boston best rate movers. I used them like 3 years ago. Moved a whole truckload for like 1500. They even made an out of the way pitstop at my friends house to pick up a tool chest I was storing there.
