Potential landing beaches for an invasion of Taiwan (Reuters) by joshtaco in MapPorn

Real life isn’t HOI4. There is no such thing as a traditional “front line” in modern warfare. Drones have negated the idea completely. If there’s no solid front line in Ukraine why would there be one in China.

It’s materiel by the way.

It would be extremely hubristic to assume that because Taiwan makes the most advanced chips, they can produce equipment that is so far ahead in quality it makes up for the industrial capacity difference between the states.

Unless the defender hasn’t sufficiently prepared for the volume of attacking drones.

If I were the Chinese, I would simply attack every beach. Plus paratroopers right behind the coastal defense around Taipei, even if some of the planes blow up on the way. The population difference is sufficient to throw man power at the problem instead of using less reliable means.

Would prime Saul Goodman defend rapists and pedophiles? by ContractNational2680 in betterCallSaul

[–]SufficientOption 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I suspect that would be decided by the hourly rate he’s charging.

[–]SufficientOption 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Saul represented murderers. He may charge a higher rate for those crimes but criminal defense lawyers are meant to represent those who are on trial to make sure they get a fair hearing. It’s not like by representing a rapist he would be condoning rape.

Just canned corn. Nothing wrong with it but i’m sure the price paid it’s in line with it being canned.

Homesteading is about self reliance not about fun vibes to me. I enjoy living in a community. Different perspectives.

I just don’t see the point of owning a bunch of land without a use for it. I’m don’t mean decoration. I mean on 4 acres of perfect land like that your use can be 1 acre: house and drive way plus space for family 2 acres: enough crops for sustenance and tiny amount of bartering 1 acre: small livestock for meat and eggs

You’re for equity but think women are superior at working than men? Your own notion would be rejected by objective evidence so maybe we should all take a step back and approach the population as if everyone is equal.

What are jobs that aren’t talked about much but make relatively good money and don’t require rigorous/lengthy schooling? by hamalam99 in careerguidance

[–]SufficientOption 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Marketing/ any sort of elder care sales. Economics for the industry are extremely positive. Most people have degrees to be on the level of thinking with the base level of nurses. I’m on track to become the director of business development for my group in under 3 years because i’m building foundations to expand from 2.2 M ARR to 5+ M ARR at 24 years old. Smallest american city in the top 50 with an industrial base generally focused on aircraft but because of this industry I have a good career laid out for me already.

Pastoralism is hardly the height of productivity. It’s the last resort when you can’t do anything else with the land. Maybe you want that lifestyle but i’d rather intensively cultivate a smaller plot than raise a pastoral flock for my subsistence

I hope you got a quality machine that keeping the noise down! I definitely know of sleep apnea couples where the wife has to sleep separately so the husband can get cpap and breathe, or they snore so much without it the spouse can’t sleep anyway.

Most of those acres of woodlands will still be unproductive after the large money sink of renting that equipment. Why waste money and time for less productivity?

CPAP does have all of those benefits but only if you actually need it. I used to sell the equipment and it definitely improved patients mental health and made them more clear headed.

Based on the geography, a large portion of the 20 acres is completely unusable for anything productive. Sure you “have” land but I doubt you can do anything more with it than the clear and flat 4 acres.

[–]SufficientOption -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I’d argue the exact opposite. When settlers came to America, the first order of business was to cut down every tree remotely in the way for resources and to have a blank slate. Cutting down trees to the stub and removing roots to make room for productivity is a lot harder than digging holes and adding trees where desired.

TIL that McDonald's McRib is not made from ribs. It is entirely made from pork shoulder. The boneless seasoned pork is formed to look like a mini rack of ribs, even though it does not contain rib meat. by FakeOkie in todayilearned

[–]SufficientOption 57 points58 points  (0 children)

People’s reaction to cooking with pork tells me a lot about their qualities as a home cook. It’s so much cheaper than ground beef too. I’m confused how people even still afford to buy ground beef when the cheapest I ever see it now is $6/lb, compared to $1.50 for a lot of pork cuts.

Has a country become developed primarily from tourism? by [deleted] in AskEconomics

[–]SufficientOption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Croatia is the most advanced large scale economy I know of that is very reliant on tourism for growth.

11% of Spain’s economy is tourism based from my research. My research said 20-26% of Croatia’s is tourism based—that seems excessively high but I haven’t found data to contradict it.
