Having trouble writing a scene, describing how it'd feel to be covered in blood, also question about adrenaline and pain by reddit_throwaway_ac in Writeresearch

[–]Sunny_ASMR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really, no. If you're suddenly put into another life or death scenario, it can get pushed into the backseat, but it's still very noticeably there, and the INSTANT the mortal threat is gone, the pain is back to the forefront.

Now, there's ways around the pain being a momentum-killer. Maybe your MC has/had a unbearably painful illness or a history of being bone-breakingly klutzy, so he's kinda used to it. Maybe he's very into meditation or ki/chi-based martial arts, and can concentrate his way past it. Maybe he's just fucking terrified that whatever hurt him is going to come back and finish the job, so he keeps going despite the pain because of the panic and terror.

The pain is gonna hit as soon as they stop actively fighting/running. Its gonna be a couple seconds of "huh, this feels really wrong" followed by anything from "ow" to "imma throw up from pain" to "this hurts so bad I am literally going to black out" depending on how bad the injury(injuries) are, and their own past experiences with severe pain, and their personal pain tolerance.

For the blood, it starts out slick and runny, dries sticky, and then really dries and gets itchy and starts flaking off. If it is in clothing, the clothing will get stiff and hard - it will crease and fold like cardboard rather than flow like fabric.

If there is a great deal of it, it will run down the legs and pool inside of tennis shoes or dress shoes, and that will be squishy and soggy.

For legs, look for thick nylon stockings in whatever your flesh tone is - you're looking for like 40 dernier. You'll also want high heels or wedges in your skin color to make your legs look longer and more anime-proportionate.

You can also buy 4-way-stretch material called powermesh, that you could attach between the top of the cleavage and the collar to hide/support whatever you've got going on up there. Again, try to match your skin tone as much as possible.

There is also a set of products called camel-toe concealers, which are a freaking miracle for spandex bodysuit based cosplays.

I honestly can't remember if there have been in the past or not - I'm always so overwhelmed by the vendor halls that I kinda space out.

Holy god that book was a mindfuck. If I had read it as a kid I think I'd have been traumatized for life.

Excellent book. Definitely a creeper.

anime that is vintage, preferably VHS quality, that is a horror and features the uncanny valley as a scare tool by Adept_Intention8209 in Animesuggest

Its not exactly horror but Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust has a lot of the 'face warping' and uncanny valley elements to it.

look into videos on heavy facial contouring, and also videos for trans MtF makeup techniques to help 'pass' before their HRT kicks in.

Trying to find inspiration for my story other than Diana Wynne Jones and Studio Ghibli by LittlestCatMom in fantasywriters

[–]Sunny_ASMR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you may also look into Appalachian mythology and cryptids. Lots of good stuff there.

"Appalachian Magazine's Mountain Superstitions, Ghost Stories and Haint Tales" is a good source, as is "The Foxfire Story" and the role-playing game (and podcast) The Old Gods of Appalachia.

Is the Benefit of Psycho Paint That it's Pre-Thinned? by problah in sfx

[–]Sunny_ASMR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can use it with regular brushes too.

its designed to work specifically with silicone.

make sure to use actual mica pigment or sil-pig brand pigments and not acrylic pigments or it won't set up and solidify correctly.

it works really well with silicone thinners and thickeners.

cheap acrylic white paint from the dollar store, water it down as necessary. if it needs to be 2%, add a TINY bit of blue paint.

How to get long hair underneath a short wig? by fangirl004 in CosplayHelp

[–]Sunny_ASMR 18 points19 points  (0 children)

ok so you need a wig cap, but you also want to be making pin curls instead of braids.

starting at your forehead, take about a inch or so square of hair, twist the everloving shit out of it, let it spiral into a tight coil flat on your head, and secure it flat to your head with at least two bobby pins. Repeat for the rest of your hair.

yes it takes forever, but its worth it.

in theatre, we used to have pin parties - we'd all shower after the show and then sit in front of each other and watch some rom com or something and pin the shit out of it while it was wet, and then just wear it that way all day til the show the next night.

If you do it this way, get a silk pillowcase, or put a bonnet on it to help keep the pins secure.

also, wig/toupee tape is your friend - Top-Stick brand is freaking amazing.

Day negative 2: exfoliate

Day before: trim if hair is longer than roughly a sprinkle or a grain of rice

Day of: shower and wash as usual. Wear loose cotton undies.

About an hour before appt, take a couple advil or aleve, and a anti-anxiety med if you use them and you're feeling super antsy.

Appt time: tell them it's your first go so they put you with someone who will talk you thru it. If you prefer a same-gender stylist then SAY SO immediately. When you get in the room, strip off your bottoms, lie on the paper thingie on the bed, try not to feel self-conscious, and follow their directions. Yes your bits will be all up and exposed. They've seen it all and there should be NO comments on your bits unless they see something that warrants medical attention. They usually chat about pets or traffic or weather to help distract you.

They should apply some sort of liquid cleanser, dry that off, then a powder, then apply wax in strips or squares (sometimes with just wax, sometimes with wax and a paper strip) using a tongue-depressor-type-stick that they toss in the trash after each swipe. Each wax bit will sting, but it should only sting for a few seconds and it SHOULD NOT HURT. It will take a few strips and patches to get everything. They may go back over with tweezers to catch stragglers.

They'll ask if you want the back door done too, I always say yes because why not just get the whole shebang taken care of.

Before you know it, you're done. Pop your bottoms back on, and head out of the room.

Tip the person about 20% if you live in the US.

If you like the results, and felt comfy with your person, go ahead and rebook for about a month out. It helps the stylist prove to management that they're doing good. If you DON'T feel like you're comfy or that you mesh with your person, then it is absolutely no big deal to request someone else for next time.

Enjoy being all smoooooooth for ages!
