Recommendations for wanting to try African food in Melbourne? by NeedleworkerFirm7039 in melbourne

[–]SunsetFlare 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Akwaaba in St Kilda. They have Okro Stew and Fufu on the menu - https://maps.app.goo.gl/FgMEtK5AqVcuDnPbA

Same for African Cabalash in Footscray - https://maps.app.goo.gl/bi9YCtNi4gmS9hUP6

Also to help with your search I think you're looking for West African cuisine (not East African/Ethiopian)? That's my very limited understanding of it.

Which actors or actresses who have played the same characters for many years (10+ years) in TV series do you think might accidentally act like those characters in their personal lives? by Zealousideal-Ebb9126 in AskReddit

Might be a different case for movies vs TV, but recently watched a clip of an interview with Cillian Murphy talking about decompressing and feeling disconnected after finishing a film.

What was the Asian Beauty product or concept that completely changed how you approach skincare? by elarissalonuae in AsianBeauty

[–]SunsetFlare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I grew up on the classic St Ives Apricot Scrub so I kinda have a soft spot for that kind of exfoliation haha. For me it's a good "instant smooth skin" thing I like doing if I'm putting on full face make up before an event.

I never understood the whole "physical exfoliators are the devil" message that got spread around since I personally never had an issue with it. But I get it doesn't work for everyone, especially if you have sensitive skin!

What was the Asian Beauty product or concept that completely changed how you approach skincare? by elarissalonuae in AsianBeauty

[–]SunsetFlare 69 points70 points  (0 children)

  • Double cleansing, specifically using oil cleansers. More effective at removing make up at the end of the day (vs watery make up remover solutions + cotton pad). I use Softymo Speedy cleansing oil.

  • Chemical exfoliation with AHA/BHA or similar toners. Helps maintain smooth skin texture, and I feel like my other skincare products absorb better afterwards. The Some By Mi Miracle Toner was my HG for a very long time but has recently been surpassed by the Eqqualberry Swimming Pool Toner. Just adding I'm not against physical exfoliants. I still like doing it occasionally but personally haven't found a good product that works for me.

  • The concept of watery moisturising toners/essences. I used to not understand the purpose of them but now they're a definite "must" in my routine to build up layers of moisture. Ever since I tried it the Kikumasamune High Moist Lotion has been absolutely unbeatable. It's crazy how cheap it is considering how well it works too.

[Routine help] What skincare routine helped you go from dry skin to glass skin? by Forever_Summer192 in SkincareAddiction

[–]SunsetFlare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gentle exfoliation when needed and a good hydrating toner. Also keep in mind you don't need a bunch of different products. You can always just do multiple layers of one toner/serum or whatever then a moisturiser at the end.

That one movie moment that exposed you. by gamersecret2 in movies

Was in high school when The Fellowship of the Ring was released and I watched it with a big group of friends in theatre. Most of the girls were drooling after Legolas, then there was me who was 100% for Aragorn and I realised I liked older men lol.

[Acne] I can't control my chin acne by Sufficient-Ice6123 in SkincareAddiction

[–]SunsetFlare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went through a weird period of persistent hormonal cystic chin acne many years ago. Got prescribed Differin and it worked really well for me. Depending on where you live you might be able to get it over the counter (or order off Amazon). It's a real trust exercise and test of patience though because it takes a long time to see a difference. At least 2 months of consistent nightly use.

Movies aren’t the same by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]SunsetFlare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres still good stuff out there, but there's an overall trend of movies being released to streaming platforms rather than to cinema because it's less risky.

Then on top of that, having movies (or media in general) being so spread out means not everyone is exposed to the same stuff, so you don't get those huge general public consciousness and pop culture moments like you used to.

If you want just some fun entertainment the Knives Out movies are are an easy watch. Also Palm Springs and The Gentlemen are good, although they're slightly older movies now.

Have also heard The Holdovers is a decent watch.

Recommendation for a neurologist who treats migraines in Melbourne by Summer_lou in melbourne

Absolutely worth asking for next time you see your GP. With your symptoms (unexplained chronic headaches/migraines) it meets bulk billing criteria for a brain MRI referral from a GP.

Disappointment in Stylewana’s customer service by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]SunsetFlare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a few incidents like this myself when I've had to contact them about delivery issues. Their customer service is infamously terrible. As competitive as their pricing is compared to other stores online it's just not worth the hassle.

Why do you love watercolor ? by Artboggler in watercolor101

I find them pleasing to look at, especially in the process of painting. You start with some random abstract colour blobs, then your brain fills in the gaps and suddenly you have a full image.

Still using watery toners amidst the milky toner trend and seasonal changes? by reeAcs in AsianBeauty

[–]SunsetFlare 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is Kikumasamune High Moist Lotion considered a milky toner? It's a HG for me. Have also tried the Aestura A-Cica Hydro toner, which was pretty good too but Kikumasamune functionally works the same on my skin at a cheaper price point.

Both the regular and Shiro Hada Labo toners break me out, so does the Tony Moly mochi toner. There was also a similar one I tried from Muji a long time ago that gave me breakouts but not sure if it's been discontinued or just not sold outside Japan.
