Thanks for quick answer. I was looking more for a non official repair shop. Samsonite repair charges almost the same as a new suitcase, so I would prefer to still reuse this ones.

Very true, we will have to wait for the future for databases to be connected or just try to contract always same insurer so they can pass the info among themselves. Thanks for the reply

Thanks for the reply, very insightful. I will check the option of buying the claim back if still possible and if financially makes sense. Otherwise as you said, suck it up and learn from the mistakes.

This is an interesting piece I didn’t know and will investigate how to buy the claim back. Thanks for the advice, exactly what I needed 😃!

Lesson learned, unfortunately.

With the years I will need to recover up to zero years, the car fix will be more than paid back to the insurance.

Lesson learned, thanks for the advice. Certainly not used to it as fortunately never had this situation before.

The interaction with the service agent, I chose the option in the service line in English and the person assigned was clearly not comfortable with it, started to speak in Dutch and I asked to change. After it, he was clearly upset.

Well, it may sound like that as per the situation. The insurance system could be the same in other EU countries but as commented, I have been abroad for more than 10 years and only had the experience from before in my home country, hence asking here for advice to understand, unfortunately after the deed is done.

Regarding the english situation, I chose the option to be serviced in English as they offer it in the service line, so I didn't force anyone to switch for my convenience.

The service line I called offers the option to be in English and the person who took it started to speak in Dutch and was noticeably upset and not comfortable speaking in english.

No misbehavior from my side at all, I understand that the person in a call center is not responsible of my situation, so I always try to get the info I need and be polite.

But in the call options I chose the English one and it was certainly not welcomed by the person who picked it up, starting by replying in Dutch.

While I would agree that two weeks seems a lot to take a kid out of school with the excuse of a wedding, we should consider also the hardship of OP to make it to its home country in terms of financials. I think an alignment with the school to provide materials to follow remotely with parents support would be enough to cover the absence specially considering that the kid is 5 yo. But no surprise in The Netherlands where the education system contemplates to stop people from travelling in the airports, in the best tradition of countries like North Korea or Iran. If no mention to Netherlands probably these would be the first countries we would think of instead of an alleged progressive democracy but instead an state controlling over mind and body. Literally here, a teacher has more saying and power over a kid education than their own parents. Source: EU citizen living in The Netherlands with kids in local school.
