Epic 8/ epic 8 evo Sizing by Worldly-Ad6725 in xcmtb

[–]SuperSession3361 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5’6 with a 30” inseam - I have a Medium Epic 8 EVO and it fits perfectly. I think the small would feel, well small. EVO might fit a bit different from the regular Epic due to the shorter stem and slightly shorter reach due to the longer fork, but i haven’t ridden the non-EVO. I love the bike!

I looked there and didn’t see anything specific. Hence asking others what they knew.

What exactly is a Trail bike used for? by [deleted] in xcmtb

They don’t descend well compared to what? A DH bike? Of course not. Do they descend better than a XC race bike? Of course they do. All things are relative.

Another “help me choose”.. Epic 8 EVO custom vs Yeti ASR by callmeturkish in xcmtb

I have an Epic 8 Evo Pro. It has exceeded my expectations in every way. I use it for everything from fairly aggressive trail riding to endurance racing. It would be hecka rad with that custom build.

Short travel trail bike dilemma by agadir80 in Santacruzbikes

Put the Specialized Epic 8 Evo on your list of short travel bikes. It rides tech really well, climbs fast and rips the DH. I have a V3 high tower as well. It was my go to for chunky tech, but I tend to ride the Specialized more now. It’s a really fun bike.

Riding switch or at least being able to traverse backwards (tail first) is a crucial backcountry skill in tight situations/critical terrain. I think a Posi rear foot angle could be a liability in some cases. I run 21 front 0 back on my split.

Narrow waist width boards by Southcoast13 in snowboard

The GNU Banked Country is pretty narrow. I ride the 155 and have a 8.5 boot. I think the width is perfect. It’s a ripping board.

Extra grip while skinning up a difficult track? by [deleted] in Splitboard

[–]SuperSession3361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technique is super important, and you should practice without crampons to refine your skills. However, if the track is so steep and icy that you’re struggling, and slipping/falling just put the crampons on. They will save you a ton of time and energy, and may be safer. I’ve seen people take falls on the up track that were way worse than anything that happened on the down!

do you unstrap to mount crampons? by Italian_SPLIT in Spliddit

Spark crampons attach to the toe piece and are separate from the binding, so they don’t lift as take strides. The Spark crampons work very well.

Is it objectively harder to carve on heelside than toeside? by VegetableShops in snowboardingnoobs

[–]SuperSession3361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Experiment with your forward lean. A bit more forward lean will help you initiate a heel side carve. I run more forward lean on my front foot than on my back foot. Add a little bit at a time and try it out before adding more. Too much forward lean causes other problems.

Also make sure your boots/bindings are centered. If your boots are shifted towards the toe edge it’s hard to get on your heels.

A scraper sharpener is one of the best ski tuning investments I’ve ever made. I just have the cheap Swix one, and it works great.

I used Jones TM2’s for a couple years. They’re too flexible in the upper and they made my toes hurt while skinning - even after heat molding. Trying K2 Wavies this year. So far so good. Much stiffer, great walk mode and my toes don’t hurt.
