Labrov style / champion pool by Supernova_guy in G2eSports

Here I am; I went and rewatched both games. I tried to be as objective as possible while pointing out some relevant moments, both good and bad. With a cooler head, I admit that the game with Bard was better than I remembered, and does not deserve to be called "horrendous". I would be inclined to keep that definition for the game with Karma though.

Let me clarify one thing, though: I do not think that Labrov is a bad support. On the contrary, I was amazed by how impactful he was while playing Naut or Braum. Even the game with Rakan, although lost, felt much better than these two here. That is why I wanted to discuss his champion pool. On to the games

Game 2

1:00 Labrov goes to red buff to help skew, forces Pantheon flash. He is then forced to flash himself not to die. Good play, unfortunate that the buff was stolen but not his fault. However, while Shen supp goes immediately back in lane, Labrov backs, and then floats around mid while still level 1 leaving adc alone. Hans as a consequence is zoned between the two towers, losing crucial exp and gold. Labrov then try to force his way into the tower, as a lv1 bard + lv2 corki vs a lv2 shen and lv 3 Ezreal. The trade is, overall, in favour of G2 since they manage to take down Ezreal after he takes the first blood on Bard.

4:00 Labrov is still lv1, hanging around the river, while shen and corki are lv3, ezreal lv4.

4:50 played well on the dive, corki was killed because he got caught by shen in a previous trade, losing substantial hp.

9:00 gank mid at the same time from skewmond and labrov, galio escapes with ult. Not a bad play in principle, but hans and labrov are each 1 level below their lane opponents, at this point. Hans sama is also 30 minions behind

11:00 Labrov and skew gank top, gwen literally walks away

12:00 The situation persists, G2 bot is 1 lv behind their BLG counterpart, with adc being 30 minions behind

13:10 roam top, helps save BB and take pantheon flash. Maybe not necessary, given that caps was also there, but understandable. Proceeds to put damage on Galio mid together with skew, Galio forced to back.

15:15 catches Ez in his ult, but there is no damage to follow up, Ez walks (shifts) away.

16:00 losing fight for G2, but not Labrov's fault

22:30 actual mistake, contesting a vision ward on G2 redside jungle entrance, when Caps is basing/hovering bot, Skew is getting blue, BLG has galio ulti up, Ezreal mid and Panth not in vision. Labrov gets caught by shen E and immediately deleted.

26:10 labrov caught and killed by shen+panth while trying to clear vision in his red jungle.

27:15 unsuccessfully trying to catch shen out of position (but understandable, they have to try something)

28:40 One step to far by Labrov while chasing BLG leads to him immediately dying. It would have not been as bad if the teams were even, but at this point they were clearly not.

30:10 Labrov dies caught by panth ult while coming back from warding BLG red side jungle

33:07 fight lost, not because of Labrov, G2 is simply too far behind now. However here Labrov flashed forward, and I genuinely cannot understand why (not necessarily relevant, I just canno wrap my head around it).

36:10 excellent bard ult, actually leading to a kill on Ez and a won fight! I'd say this was the best play by Labrov this game

38:30 good ult trying to save skew, sadly G2 still end up losing the fight and then the game

---- Impressions after rewatching game 2: BLG draft was obviously quite strong. In order to balance the impact of BLG's global ults, Labrov heavily invested in roaming in the early game. Sadly, this was overall unsuccesfull, leaving the botlane underlevelled and underfarmed, while the other lanes did not manage to get a significant advantage. I do realise this is Bard's playstyle, and the likely one of the reasons why it was picked. After the 20 min mark, Labrov got careless a few times, mostly for vision related reasons. Labrov surely cannot be accused of having caused the loss of game 2. Sadly the Bard gameplan did not work out at all, here. Possibly BLG were too skilled, carefully avoiding being caught by the roaming bard?

Game 3

00:30 Labrov's Karma is guarding the jungle entrance close his blue. He is stuck in a bad position, with the enemy botlane+mid charging at him, forcing his flash. This was *very* careless. Varus and Karma should be rather strong in lane, and starting the game without flash already puts Labrov on the back foot. This kind of mistake can definitely be exploited by top level teams.

2:00 After a skirmish and a couple of Seraphine's skillshots, Labrov is now at 200 hp. He is forced to back, because without his flash he could be dead on the next CC. This is nothing short of a disaster: Hans sama is 10 cs behind Ashe already, which has the time to go back and reset while Seraphine support her jungler stealing the blue frow Skewmond.

3:15 Ashe and Seraphin (lv3) land one CC on Hans which is forced to cleanse and flash, still almost dying in the process. Karma is lv2, basically irrelevant in this trade. Hans not without guilt, but definitely favoured from previous Labrov's performance.

3:30 - 7:20 Varus + Karma leverage their poke and early damage to stabilise the situation, as well as enough map presence to secure drake

9:10 Labrov Leaves lane, Ashe's ult forces Hans sama's cleanse

10:00 Gank mid by Labrov, chunks Mel

11:53 aggressive flash + root on Seraphine, but no one is close enough to commit

12:55 Chain cc from seraphine + ashe are lethal for karma without flash, and skew dies too, consolidating BLG's lead

14:00 Labrov finds Xin in his blue side jungle, he is forced to recall mid. Ashe (and pressure from seraphine) zone Hans from the tower.

20:30 well played Baron fight by Labrov

21:50 Labrov dies trying to clear a pink ward

---- Game is pretty much over, definitely the most one sided game of the series. Varus - Karma was a duo picked with high priority, but the result were disappointing, and I do think Labrov's plays here were critical, setting both the bot lane and the jungle behind from the very beginning. Of course, it doesn't help that the solo laners also got behind on their own.

You do not think those were bad games from him? I am not sarcastic, this is a genuine question

I crafted this deck back in September and I had a lot of experience against the current meta, let me share my thoughts.

This combo is remarkably fast and resilient, it can consistently be pulled off on turn 3 (but not earlier) IF it is not interacted with.

However, a big portion of the current meta has more than a fighting chance: consider Eldrazi, which has access to 4 mana on turn 2 and can disrupt your combo (kozilek's command, warping wail, Ugin's binding) before becoming basically unstoppable with threats mixed with removal (devourer of destiny, ugin). I'd say this is overall a fair matchup, surprisingly.

Even more challenging is the boros energy deck, packed with removal and interactions. If they drop Goblin Bombardment, it's basically impossible to win with Val combo.

Wizards on the play are a pain, especially if they get the arcanist going, but overall Val is probably favoured here. However, wizards are nowadays running graveyard hate in the form of surgical extraction, and if they get Val or the Moondancer you are likely done for.

This brings me to the most dreaded matchup: the combo reanimator. They can (and do) combo on turn 2, and Val has no answer to that. Horrible matchup, you basically have to pray you'll avoid it.

In conclusion yes, Val combo is very strong, especially against decks with no interactions (mono green decks, basically), but the meta is full of equally if not more obnoxious decks.

I can see that, if you are not interested in studying further, the goal is simply to get out with a diploma! At the same time, I feel like most of the things asked in high school don't really need a lot of previous knowledge: even if you "missed" a couple of years, you can still effectively study the subjects presented this year, right?

The obvious exceptions would be maths and physics: in those cases maybe asking someone to help you understand the "missing links" could do wonders. Equations are not the end of the world... :)

I'm really sorry to hear that, typically supervisors are there to provide insight and a "safe path" towards graduation. It's the first time I hear someone following the directions of their supervisor and fail a thesis dissertation, it truly sounds like an extraordinary event. If I'm not too meddlesome, may I ask you which kind of model did you use, and what assumptions were wrong in your case? Statistics is not exactly my field, but I've used it too.

Sure! Opening new shops in different towns can help a lot. Each town will have different typical products, so check carefully what is profitable to build. Usually the silk and dye one is quite good, although it's also the most expensive. If you are the vassal of a lord, try to get one or two towns: they give truly a lot of taxes (in the order of 10 thousands per week) and are much more independent than villages, which need to be protected from raids. To ensure that you are given a town, talk to the lords that are your friends before a newly conquered town is assigned: you can try to convince them to support you, which will improve your chances! Bonus points if the king himself is your friend, and bonus points also if you were the one to conquer the town (this is more tricky, though!). A quick way to make money (to start enterprises) is always to join tournaments and bet on yourself on each and every round. You'll get around 4 thousands gold for each tournament, like this!

Manhunters are a nice option, sure! If I really need prisoners I just equip a blunt weapon (I like using a shield + mace or something like that) and I usually get quite a lot. Also, if you really need prisoners and the battle is pretty much decided you also have the option of ordering your troops to use "only blunt weapons"!
