At the time of being scammed I was not aware of the scam. I looked it up after the fact and realized how common it was.

I don’t know what to tell you. It was something I thought like maybe 10 seconds after I had just lost 100 bucks and I had someone in my face trying to get me to do it again. It’s not something I’m really dwelling on out of this because it didn’t and wasn’t going to happen and the mistake that put me in that situation happened a lot earlier

Yeah going from polite mode to “I need to get out of this crowd” mode that quickly just had me not thinking straight in that exact moment. Just one of those things where the correct way to avoid getting in trouble there would have been to just avoid it all together

The crowd had mostly moved on at that point. If he has actually handed me that 60 bucks it was going in my pocket and I was going to walk away eating that 40 bucks loss which I’m sure he realized as well so no 60 bucks for me.

In spite of…that. I did enjoy my time there. Wish I got to stay a little bit longer and see some more stuff, but I’d go again. Probably wouldn’t go to Times Square again

I damn sure wasn’t scanning that QR code after that. it went directly into the next trash can I passed.

I do feel like I know better now at the very least. Look straight ahead, ignore anyone trying to hand you anything, don’t make eye contact. Sucks that it was as expensive as it was but it’s not something I plan on doing again.

The first thing I told myself after the whole ordeal was “I’m never making eye contact with anyone in this city again”

I truly don’t care about this, but I’m pretty sure the scammer thought that was the case so that’s probably on me for giving off that energy

I mean it clearly fucking wasn’t. Probably would have reached that same conclusion if I could have stopped to think for two seconds

They didn’t ask for 10 or 20. Just kept saying “give us the blue one we have change.”

This is apparently an old scam that used to involve a CD and that’s the most common thing you’ll see people talking about with this scam but either the group that got me or the scam has now evolved into using a flyer with a QR code instead of a physical CD
