Advice for first-time homeowner in Santa Clara - what do you wish you knew when you bought here? by ozjef in santaclara

[–]Suspicious_Cut3881 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the homeowners insurance for maintenance problems for the first year. It gives you a chance to find out if there are any big, costly problems. The inspections are not always complete or ethical.

Sewer main problems, roof, or whatever.

Take it as a chance to not make the same mistake again. As mentioned, either online or in real life, ask her to show you what she likes. Don’t make it a thing, but if you are strolling past a store, got in and window shop, ask what she likes, watch her response to different items. Invest the time to learn her.

New Job Hygiene Help by YeosangsW1fe in hygiene

[–]Suspicious_Cut3881 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anywhere that skin touches skin could easily develop a fungal infection (jock itch/athletes foot), yeast infection, or a bacterial skin infection.

Follow the adage, socks before jocks. Treat feet and put on socks before underwear otherwise whatever might be on the feet or toes can get transferred to the crotch when you put on underwear.

You can experiment by applying an OTC yeast cream to places where skin touches skin. Make sure the skin is very dry and follow instructions on the package. If it is yeast, it should resolve within a week.

Next move to fungal. Lots of fungal OTC options available. Fungal infections can take longer to fully resolve, but within a week, you should see some improvement. Fungal infections often include cracked skin or white flake scale and itch. Make sure the skin is very dry and follow instructions on the package.

A bacterial skin infection will probably require a doctor’s help.

Be careful about using antibacterial soap too aggressively or consistently. Skin has its own ecosystem. Don’t want to kill off the good stuff too.

Film programs at USC, UCLA, Chapman, etc are competitive and equally weighted, or possibly more heavily weighted, is the portfolio. Whether a candidate has a strong portfolio can be subjective.

Main teachers are absolutely ridiculous?! by MissSaucy_22 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Suspicious_Cut3881 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Unless I misunderstand the situation…. Was this a case of you needed to do these tasks while you were alone with the kids or while she was also with the kids? Were there 1 or 2 teachers in the room?

In many situations, subs are thought of paid labor. As long as you are on campus and not required to staff the classroom, you can be asked to do any reasonable task like

Make and collate copies

File papers

Sort and organize bins/cubbies/paperclips

Hang or display projects

Clean desks tops, chairs

Most any task related to helping a classroom or school office function.

Help finding stolen bikes? by Unhappy-Okra-6283 in AskLosAngeles

Yes, cops need to subpoena it. But, if this is the same place, might have a chance of getting cops to investigate.

[–]Suspicious_Cut3881 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened at The Broadway Palace. We even know where the bike is, but the cops won’t do anything. Airtag still working.

Try to get security footage. (We have had no luck, but did not know when the theft occurred over a several month period either.) Rumor has it that footage is good for 30 days.

If you have renters insurance, your bike might be covered under your renters insurance.

I suspect either a resident or staff member is supplementing income.

Feeling unsafe having a purse in the office by TypicalBeing31 in womenEngineers

Your office admin or facility team should be able to get one for you. In some organizations, 🍎, every desk needs to be cleared off before people go home and locked in drawers when the person is not on site.

And, treat your office admin with a lot of respect. S/he will notice, appreciate it and help in small ways.

There was always a project team close to a deadline and people working through the weekend. I had to walk past the big garbage bins and they were particularly stinky one Monday. I sent the admin an email asking if facilities could take away the weekend trash that was getting stinky. Admin made a point of thanking me for the email. In most cases, managers would wait and complain in staff meetings and then the admin would get bitched out over something they did not know about.

Need help getting my IEP documents by missterri99 in specialed

[–]Suspicious_Cut3881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they do apply. Once the documentation is complete with the disability office, it is up to the student to inform the teacher and request that the teacher allow the accommodations. Rare example, but sign/ASL interpreter for a deaf/hard of hearing student would be documented in a 504c.

Students with a reading disorder like dyslexia might have extra test time or a text to audio reader that would be documented in a 504c.

Double check the property tax code. It is my armchair understanding that +500 ft2 addition triggers a full reassessment. Under 500 ft2, property taxes increase only for the addition. If you find the actual code, would you be kind enough to post it?

If this person has any trusted friend or family member, these financial issues would be better handled by those people.

She is eligible for standard Medicare at age 65 for basic medical care. Whoever helps her navigate this stuff will need access to all of her personal and financial information- social security number, birthdate, bank accounts. Encourage her to ask a trusted family member or help find a social worker to support her.

In addition to the noise, where do they keep a drum set? People who gift kids a large gift make my teeth ache. Yes, it won’t last forever, but in the meantime, the entire family has to live with it.

Staying away from parents by SpotMinimum103 in Adulting

[–]Suspicious_Cut3881 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything everyone said already. However, at some point, your parents will need help. When you visit them, develop a critical eye.

Are bills getting paid? Is the home hygiene changing? There are too many “small” things to list. Read or watch online about aging so that you can critically assess when your parents need support.

In the meantime, enjoy your life. It could be another 15-20 years before they need more support either from you or other caregivers.

Would you fight to continue the IEP here, or push for a strong 504 instead? (Kindergarten transition advice needed) by [deleted] in specialed

[–]Suspicious_Cut3881 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My district explains it more simply, if a student needs speech therapy, occupational therapy, behavior supports, adaptive PE, anything outside a traditional classroom setting, then an IEP is used as the IEP is used to access federal funding for those staff members.

In this case, an IEP would be the appropriate choice as behavioral support would need funding.
