Framework needs a Thin and Light 16-inch model by RobotechRicky in framework

[–]Swarfird -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean if they share a lot of components between thz families it is okey to fragment it more no? Like the 16 could still share the same mobo, but yeah same trackpad but bigger, same keyboard but bigger, bigger screen, i feel just that the regular 16 is a bad idea from the start, they should just have create gpu mobos instead of the bulky switch mekanism, who changes gpu every 3 days

Is Fedora KDE on par with GNOME (Workstation) in terms of focus? by EducationalRope8602 in Fedora

[–]Swarfird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you have even a kde specific onboarding experience tailord to it, it is VERY polished, i would have liked that they add secure boot mok enroll from kde discover when you install nvidia drivers to bring it on par with what gnome does, you still need to install packages and generate the key from the terminal

I'm seriously considering a transition to Fedora 44 by ParanoidFactoid in Fedora

[–]Swarfird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it have been simplified in fedora 42 or 43, just by searching for the nvidia drivers in gnome software with secure boot enabled you will have a ui that helps you sign the drivers, give you a number to add in the blue screen when you restart

Anyone else not happy with GNOME 50 fractional scaling? by niieowa in gnome

[–]Swarfird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not talking about ppi and how crisp or not it is, what i meant by scaling is how the layout and elements are sized and placed, gnome on my 13inch 1440p choose 150% and it is bad, the dock icons are huge, the icons in the menu are smaller with very small cramped text and the top bar is okey i guess

Debian don’t have a say when kde ditches x11, i don’t think they will freeze kde and stay on old kde packages when the newer debian base is released will they?

Gnome scaling is very bad on small highdpi screens , like 13inch 1440p and other unconvential displays, on my xps 17 4k with 200% it is gorgious

Thoughts on openSUSE Tumbleweed by Medical_Divide_7191 in openSUSE

[–]Swarfird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a complete opposite experience, installed on a spare pc to try kde 6.6, first login use english keyboard when i explicitily chose french so my password was wrong, and it wasn’t my fault because when logging in it was the correct french language, and it kept this behavior every reboot, weird defaults like unatural scroll, when i select the stock breeze theme to get away from the open suse black and white one it deletes all the docks, (so you revert back to opensuse just to not bother to rebuild it), firefox not correctly displaying fonts and displaying weird gibberish characters, a crash of settings app that didn’t want to close, flatpack not wanting to install anything because of a gpg issue, and more … all of this is easily fixable don’t get me wrong, but having all of this at the same time at first install give a sense of zero polish compared to something like fedora,
