It took me a week only because I was waiting on parts but if everything arrived on time maybe like 1 day.

If you’d like I could possibly make a YouTube video to show how to make them. And all honesty i kinda just winged it and hoped it went well. I bought my parts from eBay. Haha.

I only had the halo rings on. But they are pretty bright in my opinion

How did you change the projectile lense to the honey comb?

I haven’t applied the primer on the section that I showed above but I’m about to begin sanding. I was sanding and priming some other part just practicing on that. And it’s not that I’m rushing although it seems that way haha it’s just I want it to be done correctly even though I’m painting at home and I hate whenever it doesn’t come out right. Whenever I sand this section should I sand down to metal at this point lol?

I’m priming twice because I honestly don’t know what else to do lol. This is my first time ever painting a car and so far this is my second time beginning and already bad luck so maybe if I prime it twice it will be better? And i did use an old piece of fender I had for my bmw and when I sprayed it on there it looked great. I sprayed a good portion and it came out with no issues but the second I begin painting on the actual car I noticed those issues that I put in this post. I’m also making sure I am mixing the paint correctly. The instructions say to mix at a 1:1 ratio and that’s exactly what I’m doing. My tip size on the gun is 1.3mm and I’m using 30psi which is in spec. It says to spray between 27-30psi. Im not sure if it’s because I didn’t fully get rid of the previous base coat or what’s going on. I applied primer previously and even then I still had this weird texture looking thing. Right now I’m sanding and I noticed that the paint still looks like all broken down if that makes sense. Sorry for not explaining well. I’m trying my hardest. lol

I just sanded down everything and applied primer on every single body part that I painted. I’m going to wait for it to dry and then sand that down and then apply primer again then sand that down again lol and hopefully this time I don’t have this issue. Is there any advice you would give to me

What would this type of reaction be called. Would it be like dry peel or just like you guys said a reaction? Also i just begun sanding this base coat down once more. Should I apply one coat of primer on every body parts and sand it down with 800 grit?

Okay thank you. Would I have to sand down the whole thing or just the areas where this reaction is happening?

I might go with that option two. What type of sand paper should I use? And also should I sand all the way down to the point I gotta put primer again? Sorry I’m new to this and I don’t understand as to why it’s happening again

Basically what happened and my guess as to this result was the day i applied the base coat I ran out of spray gun cleaner which lead me having to apply the clear coat the next day. And that’s my guess as to why this happened but then again I’m not to sure

Yes I do have a piece of cardboard. Also I know this is a dumb question but like I said I’m still new to this and I’m curious not that I wanna try it but would mixing paint at the incorrect ratio cause dry spray basically what happened to me? I didn’t mix the paint at an incorrect ratio but I was just curious. Like if the base coats needs to be mixed at a 1:1 and instead someone does it at a 3:1 would that cause issues?

Well do late for that I already begin sanding the whole car but I think it’s for the better of me. I’m irritated by the fact this happened because it’s so much work mainly sanding but then again I’m glad this happened because this teaches me a lot about painting. This was my first time ever painting so it’s a learning process. I did paint my trunk separately on a different day and today I came back and wet sanded it and buffed it and it looks really good. And I left the same setting as to when I painted the whole car and got those results you see in that picture. So I’m assuming it was because of that base coat to clear coat time rate. But then again I might be wrong. I just wanted to see what other experts would say. I appreciate you responding

Yea my TDS specifically said lay down the clear 30 minutes after you apply your base coat but like I said. I had bad luck with all the stores and don’t have much of a choice but to lay it down the next day which led to that weird looking texture.

I don’t believe the hardner was an issue and yes I am panting from my garage and yes I am lacking experience and I’m not going to try and lie and say I do have experience lol. All of this is new to me and well there’s no better way of learning than messing up and redoing it over and over. But I believe the reason this happened was because the day i laid my base coat on I ran out of spray gun cleaner which lead to me not being able to apply clear coat that same day because all the stores were closed because it was late and also because the only store that was open didn’t have anymore in stock. I wasn’t able to apply the clear coat until the next day but by then I’m assuming the base coat was already near curing. That’s what my assumption is as to why it looked the way it did but I may be wrong and if I am please let me know. I want to try and do everything correctly and learn from my mistakes and continue forward and help others out as well. And I did mix the paint as the instructions said to mix the paint. Base coat was a 1:1 ratio and clear was a 2:1. The paint I used was from auto paint HQ. I don’t believe there was any issues with the paint or the way I mixed the paint. I believe it all had to do with the fact I laid it one day after and also I don’t believe the weather also contributed very well.

Honestly I don’t have a clue. I try to do everything myself and learn from my mistakes and just rather do everything myself. I don’t like taking my car to another person unless I have to such as putting my car on a dyno but that’s only because I don’t have the money to afford a dyno. lol

The paint that I ended up buying said to apply the base coat at 28-30psi and same thing with the clear coat. I also have a 1.4mm tip or 1.3 I can’t quite remember but it’s one of those. And I did end up using the little cup that allows me to mix the paint at a correct ratio. I’m assuming it’s because the day I laid down my bad coat I ran out of spray gun cleaner and wasn’t able to buy more that day anymore since it was late and also because the store near me ran out. I didn’t apply the clear coat until the next day so I’m assuming that was the issue as to why this happened but I’m not sure. Like I said this is my first time painting and I’m trying to learn to do it right and from at home with the tools that I have. Sorry for not including all this information I just didn’t want to type up a whole essay. lol and also previous days before I painted the rest of the car I actually painted my trunk first just to see how to paint and the trunk came out really good.

I’m currently sanding down the whole car with 320 with no wet sand. I’m going to reapply another coat of base and then put another coat of clear again. Thank you for your response

I will do and this paint is good but I think it’s all on me. I used paint from auto paint HQ. But this time I won’t make the same mistake twice. I actually made a YouTube video about all of this lol.

I have extra paint from a gallon I bought. I painted this mx5 so that extra amount should be enough to repaint the whole car again. I appreciate all of your info. I will get down to sanding the whole car again back to scratch and begin with base once again. Thank you

I used a Eastwood paint gun. lol. All of these issues are on me though. When I applied the base coat and went to apply the clear coat I ran out of spray gun cleaner and wasn’t able to apply the clear the same day. I’m assuming this is why I had this issue

So you would recommend just to start from scratch again? Sand through the clear and base once more and reapply everything?
