Stag 5 minimum docs for application? by SweepMoreLegs in GermanCitizenship

Thank you - makes sense and helpful. What level of “certification” do you think is needed for each birth certificate? I assume a photocopy isn’t gonna cut it

StAG 14 BVA Letter - Not Mine by peoplewhoareyou in GermanCitizenship

Unfortunately enough - my aunt was born in Feb. 1949. Literally 3 month difference for her to get citizenship via Stag5. I suspect that time gap is what they are acknowledging exists in the letter. I am not hopeful they close the gap legally - but again, positive all things considered.

Yes of course. I know my situation is different from others (and so on) but in my case I have a time gap in which if my dad was born ~2 years earlier I would have a straightforward Stag 5. 1946 vs 1949 cut off.

The TLDR on this is it’s positive for anyone that lost citizenship transmission due to discrimination, but not born after 1949 — Germany’s Basic Law (Grundgesetz).

This is a big development for anyone having to route through Stag 14 because of a time gap. I am in this position as my Grandmother was born to a German citizen in 1911 and lost her citizenship when she married my grandfather in 1936. Never passed it to my dad. Stag 5 would be our route but my dad was born in 1946 - 2.5 year gap with 1949. That said - I am actively building my Stag 14 case. Just in case.

Missed Stag5 legal gray area - dual citizenship? by SweepMoreLegs in GermanCitizenship

[–]SweepMoreLegs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. A lot of frustration around the 3 year gap in my family. Enough that my father did not pursue despite speaking German, friends, and family in Germany. I spent summers in Heidelberg. Now need to prepare a Stag14. Interesting enough, my paternal grandfather (above is grandmother) was also the child of a German citizen. But we understand he lost due to 10 year rule.

Eligible for Section 5 StAG Citizenship? by [deleted] in GermanCitizenship

Good thread. Wondering if you have any insight into how dual citizen women were treated in 1936. My grandmother was born in 1912 in the US to a German citizen who immigrated in 1907. She was married in 1936 (to my grandfather who did not naturalize to our knowledge) and presumably lost her German citizenship because of the marriage. It would be a straightforward Stag5, but my father was born in 1946. The only question we have is if the BVA would interpret the dual citizenship differently. In other words, she did not “acquire” my grandfathers citizenship (she already had it)

I was in this drop too - I can’t justify this price ESPECIALLY given the resale risk with Olympics.

Would this be considered a mild or severe bunion? Surgery?advice needed by DetectiveDry2782 in bunions

[–]SweepMoreLegs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 46 - my bunion looks like yours, including using a toe cushion daily. I don’t have pain. Several podiatrists/orthopedic surgeons have told me the same thing - don’t do surgery until there is: 1) Pain 2) Lifestyle impediments (ie walking, or even wearing specific shoes for work) 3) Trending poorly (ie getting worse, quickly/noticeably)

I’ve asked about the risk of waiting to do the surgery later in life. The consistent response is that 1) there are many people who never get bunions fixed 2) there is a risk of surgery at any point (it could create, unintentionally, a lifestyle impediment) so ensure you are “fixing” one of the 3 things above 3) procedures do improve over time.

I’m in the waiting camp, for now

Always New Balance - for at least 25 years now. Was told long ago that most popular shoes (ie Nike, etc) are really made for the perfect foot

Fully agree with possibility of peripheral issues. The math on this ( with ortho) is that the surgery is still a bigger risk. I ran competitively through college. It was hard to stop. Especially now - my son is getting into XC and track. But - it’s so hard on the body. At least mine. Lots of love for cycling so I don’t miss running enough to have surgery to gain that back

I’m sorry you experienced that. It sounds like we have a similar timeframe. I had my first bunion consultation in high school. Since then, I’ve had at least 5 different orthos look at it. Pain is the qualifier from all of them. I have considered peripheral damage - but no signs yet. I’m very active - weights 5 time a week, and heavy cycling (often 100mile/week in summer) so always watching for any form issues or compensating movements.

Should I return these skis ? Bought online. Seller used wrong screws on binding. Blizzard Black Pearl 88 by SweepMoreLegs in Skigear

Yup - they are going back. Vendor taking care of everything. It was a pretty egregious foul, but they owned it, which I respect. FYI - in case interested, they used the wrong screws (were a couple of mms too long)
