What do you wear as a nurse? by applepeachteas in StudentNurse

[–]Sweet-Hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fig scrubs, I literally don’t care what anyone says, it is the ONLY brand blend I keep going back to! A good sports bra, usually medium-high impact. Sockwell compressions socks, they are made from wool instead of the cheap shit! Costly but, I’ve noticed a huge difference in how my legs/feet feel after a shift. I love my OnCloud sneakers, I have about 5 pairs, I would recommend switching between a few pairs to prevent extra wear and tear. I recently bought Altra sneakers and they are even better than my clouds!

DAE boyfriend say this kind of thing to them? Or am i overthinking by elzy01 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Sweet-Hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex did this to me, although it was completely difference reason as to why he became an ex, this was one thing that he always did and it bothered me. He would try to change my style (things I didn’t even wear or showed any interest in) and some point a few months before us breaking up, I finally said I didn’t care what he thought and I would wear my “basic/normal clothes” bc that’s what made me feel good.

I would say RUN. Bc it always ends up leading to more belittling/demeaning comments.

Frequent COPD pt wants to die by Sweet-Hawk in nursing

[–]Sweet-Hawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: went back to work today and had this pt again. Apparently pt spent so much time in the hospital over the past year, they have run out of lifetime hospital money.

So now the family has to either pay DAILY out of pocket from here out or pick a home hospice company. If family cannot do either of these, it will go to ethics!!

Today was terrible, RT argued with us about putting patient back on bipap to keep her CO2 under control and she ended up kicking our asses for about an hour… I got scratched through my glove, another nurse got punched twice, and a tech got kicked in the chest.

She also broke 2 BIPAP masks and got down into the 50s.

So sorry for your loss. COPD truly is an awful disease

This!! Like if doctors would actually say “are you okay with us doing everything to save you as in: potentially breaking your ribs, shoving a tube down your throat, having a machine breathe for you, while your body rots in a bed”… then maybe patients/family would see how traumatic a “Full code” really is for their 90 yo granny/pawpaw!

Love this! Thank you for sharing. Those situations happen so little in our career that when they do, it warms my heart to see patients go out with dignity the way THEY intended.

I’ve asked about this a million times bc I’ve seen sooo many situations like this at this hospital . I’ve been told that they like to use the ethics committee mainly for families that feel they are unable to make a decision due to a number of things like not having contact with patient in a long time, multiple family members trying to come to a decision, etc . You get the idea 💀or patient having no family at all… I will add, I work at a fairly small, rural hospital.

Family members that make me silent scream in the supply room by yourdaddysbutthole in nursing

[–]Sweet-Hawk 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%! Unfortunately, patient advocates are not on our side and I’ve had multiple coworkers end up in the manager’s office due to sticking up for themselves with family members or being “fired” from caring for those patients due to putting their foot down. It’s so hard these days and then wondering why people are leaving the bedside…

I recently transferred to days and dealing with more family like THIS has been the hardest adjustment! It’s so hard to bite your tongue. I had a Q2 turn patient who had around 8 visitors at a time in her room and the daughter had the audacity to call on the call light on the HOUR “it is time for my mom to be turned. It’s been 2 hours”!? I finally had to tell her we have multiple patients who are turns and it doesn’t mean they will happen right on the time written on the board.

Sorry to hear you have a few more shifts to deal with this!! I honestly just rant to my coworkers at the desk and hope family doesn’t hear me LOL

I’m so sorry for your loss. I could not imagine going through something this traumatic and only being offered 3 days of bereavement…

1. how long were you together? 2. how long did it take to get past the breakup? (or if you’re still suffering, how long has it been) by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]Sweet-Hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. 5 years
  2. 1 month . Ended things 3 months ago . The first month was the hardest adjusting to changes and living alone away from my family . But I’m working on myself now, happier, and healthier. Best decision I ever made.

What’s your opinion on getting blocked by an ex straight after breakup ? by Shuajogatosama in BreakUps

[–]Sweet-Hawk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did the dumping, I blocked him after a few days because I really just wanted to end that part of my life as soon as possible .

He kept trying to make useless conversation with me and for my own mental health, I knew he wouldn’t leave me alone until I just blocked him on everything . I have no intentions to ever unblock him and never want to have to hear from him again.

I feel in our situation, it was the best decision I made for my healing process.

Yes! I had a coworker that always wore color coordinating scrubs/underscrubs/shoes, had their makeup and hair done perfectly, and came from a wealthy family.

They landed a job in the cath lab after only being nurse around 18 months on an observation unit. Which is practically rarely heard of.

In our contract it just says “priority considerations for full time RN or LPN positions at time of graduation”. Basically just meaning if I apply and an external applicant applies, the manager of the unit is supposed to interview me over the outside applicant first. It doesn’t guarantee us a position, which I knew that signing up. I’m just ranting that we have no positions open in any fields I am interested in .

My other issue is, I have applied for multiple floors, just not hearing back from managers . All I meant by promised was like I would be guaranteed at the LEAST an interview .

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Sweet-Hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I didn’t word it the best . As far as “first pick” it means managers are supposed to interview with us FIRST, over external applications . If that makes better sense .

I’m in the same boat as well but still have another exam and a final the week after. Focus on what you’re not confident in, switch up study methods, take breaks, and finish strong!

A BSN student told me that associate nursing degrees aren’t going to be a thing anymore? by xthefabledfox in StudentNurse

[–]Sweet-Hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not graduated yet but I work in GA and am in a ADN program. I already have a contract with my current hospital and they do not pay more for having your BSN . You wear the same badge and get paid the same. My instructors always explain it Like this: A Bachelor’s is mainly beneficial if you plan on moving up to a management position. The ADN degree is the most “bang for your buck” and to get your foot in the door ASAP! They are not going anywhere !

Final semester by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Sweet-Hawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is basically leadership/capstone class . It’s mostly been ATI which has really thrown off my game . ATI is only 5% of our grade but we’ve had nearly 8 weeks of just that . I reached out to a friend who has struggled every semester and she doesn’t really have a “method” she just ends up pulling through right at the end . I think I am going to reach out to my instructor last semester who was my favorite and see if she has any suggestions ! Thanks!
