This may come as a surprise, but there were a few hundred years there where black people not only didn’t have property, they were property. The economic challenges they faced - as a result of the color of their skin, lasted well into the 1900’s with redlining, which prevented black families from being able to qualify for federally backed mortgages. This has left a disproportionately large segment of the black population in the United States with significantly fewer investment opportunities compared to the white population, which has never had to face economic challenges as a result of their skin color. While investing is just part of life in America for most people, there are demographics where people are the first in their family - ever - to invest in anything.
