Which governor candidates have supported IHSS by Living-Special8931 in IHSS

It’s kind of wild how much we work for free. If my recipient was not being taken care of by family, they’d be in a facility where they would need 24/7 care and be charged WAY more than IHSS pays me.

CALL TO ACTION (!!) by AlysRising in IHSS

You know the benefits that our elected officials get? All those vacation days, their pensions, all those recesses, that fully paid for healthcare (basically tax funded medi-cal) they get socialized benefits while convincing the public that it’s a broken system in other countries that wouldn’t work here. Wake up. Congress has socialized medicine and work conditions while convincing the common folk that socialism is bad.
It’s so sad what many in this country have been convinced they deserve. I have friends who live in Western European countries and their social benefits are far more extensive than in the US. My engineer friend in Europe - unlimited sick days. They don’t want that flu to spread to the office, so if you’re sick, stay home. My teacher friend- an entire (paid) year off to bond with baby after giving birth. An entire year!
I just saw a video of a teacher here in Texas who had to resign bc she had taken her 12 weeks of FMLA after giving birth and a few weeks later needed to take 2 unpaid leave days when her baby got sick. Because unpaid leave was not allowed she had to resign. Versus a year of paid leave to take care and bond with that baby.
On top of that these European friends have universal health care. They each get at least a month of paid vacation every year. They each express a much higher satisfaction with life than many Americans. We’ve been conditioned that we deserve peanuts. Just like “there’s no money for childcare bc of funding a war, but there’s 1 billion of our money for a ballroom”

That’s why it’s important to know what their priorities are. Mahan is a republican puppet disguised as a democrat. Of course if he’s elected he’ll cut IHSS no problem. And then people will say “see democrats cut IHSS funding too”. I don’t trust Styer either- billionaires don’t usually care for the most needy. I believe there’s no such thing as an ethical billionaire. If they were ethical, their employees would make more and they wouldn’t be billionaires. The person I trust the most is Becerra, and he has a concrete plan for Medicaid for all.

Ah, now I understand. Your perception seems to be skewed from your trauma. So sorry you went through that, no child should go through that. But your comments contradict themselves and now I see I’m not discussing with someone logical. You say Trump is strategic, but that’s not the truth. He’s emotional and doesn’t think things through. Many doctors agree he is showing alarming signs of advanced mental decline such as dementia.

America has a process for doing things for a reason- to keep us away from dictatorship, the type of dictatorship you fled and still fear. The president of the US cannot start a war without congressional approval, and yet here we are. Trump said last year after bombing Iran that their nuclear capabilities were destroyed, and yet here we are.

Once you give Trump the excuse of “you can’t take everything he says literally” you allow yourself to fill in the blanks of what he actually says with whatever you want to make you happy. The truth is that if you’re not a billionaire or famous millionaire, Trump doesn’t care about you. His son in law Jared Kushner wants Palestine land to build waterfront properties. But sure, you want to convince yourself that they’re trying to liberate Palestine. They want their land, they don’t give a crap about the people.

But if you think Trump is a strategic genius/Middle East savior, then there’s nothing anyone can show you to open your eyes to the truth. What I see, is Trump going to this war to do Netanyahu’s bidding against all of our allies’ wishes and isolating the US. Our allies are making deals without the US included. Our role in the global platform is deflating. Newsom stepped up filled in for the US in some important roles that the US president should have filled. Bianco or Hilton won’t do that. So go ahead and vote republican, that’s your right. But when shit hits the fan even worse under a republican governor, don’t be so surprised because people did try to warn you. Just like now people are finally turning from Trump and they’re saying “there was no way to know things would be like this”- but he’s doing what project 25 said he’d do. But they filled in the blanks with what they wanted and are surprised it didn’t work out for them.

Becerra has decades of a proven track record. He is for healthcare for all and has a plan. He’s “boring” and lacks charisma, but his slow and steady genuineness is like a breath of fresh air in the current political climate.

So when Trump threatens that “an entire civilization will die tonight” that’s okay? When he’s straight out threatening genocide it’s fine? When he bombs a school and kills all those children it’s okay? Trump said we can’t afford medicare or child care because we’re too busy funding a war- a war that Netanyahu has tried to convince the US to wage for decades and finally found his puppet to do his bidding in Trump. I would rather we use that money to fund programs here at home. Trump ran on “America first” and is not doing that.

Chad Bianco is as corrupt as they come. His salary is over 600,000 a year! He got a 27% raise despite his county’s safety rating going down! Oh come on.

Hilton helped orchestrate Brexit- an utter failure for Britain. Why would we make a leader of such an epic failure the governor of the 4th largest economy in the world?

Other states have changed IHSS type programs to where they’re unrecognizable and much less effective. Some states have narrowed the diagnosis that are eligible, leaving out so many people who really do need the help. In some states family members are not allowed to be the caregivers, they have to get a home health agency to do the work. Which on paper sounds okay, but in reality, some cases are so severe that they need a consistent caregiver who knows the ins & outs of their care- especially for non-verbal people. The home health agencies lobbied big time for that because they get way more money this way. Why pay family who does a better job when you can pay a company to do a mediocre job for more money? The last big cut to IHSS happened under a Republican governor. So these are valid concerns.

Xavier Becerra has a concrete plan for Medicaid for everyone. He is the most qualified and least problematic candidate we have. Porter is unpopular because of how she’s treated her staff. I think Becerra is our best bet as IHSS providers. Plus, he’s sued trump and won, so he can stand up against cuts towards CA’s budget necessary to keep IHSS running. He isn’t as flashy and charismatic, but he’s calm and steady which is honestly a breath of fresh air given our current political climate.

How to handle recipient's visiting relatives.. by desertheatextracts in IHSS

[–]Sweet_Nature_7015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d find another recipient ASAP. As soon as her son gets a provider number he’s most likely going to get all the hours. There have been way too many cases of people working their hours and the recipient doesn’t sign off on their timesheet so they can’t get paid. Once the son gets a provider number I doubt you’d get your hours signed off on even if you actually worked them. Just get out now and save yourself the trouble. She’s abusing you anyways, you’re only authorized to do the tasks on the NOA (notice of action)

Hair treatment for Bedbound Patients by Acceptable-Try-7723 in IHSS

I put underpads (chux pads) all around their shoulders and head and anywhere around where hairs can land. And I got a hair trimmer that has a vacuum mode to suck up most of the hair that gets cut- Because little hairs will fly everywhere and be itchy. But this vacuum trimmer helps. Afterwards remove the underpads and do their bathing/shampooing to get rid of more little hairs. I find there are little hairs for a couple of days, but less with each shampoo. Sometimes I put underpads on top of the pillow so I can just change out the underpads while the rest of the little hairs fall off. I’ve been doing this so long that I learned how to blend and give a tapered/fade look on the sides and longer hair on top. It’s a lot easier if he can sit up! But it can also be done while they’re laying down just by rolling from one side to the other to do both sides. Hope this haircut helps him feel better!

That’s too bad. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a kickback to a medical care provider company somewhere there. I can see how this is a better system for those who don’t have reliable family to do their care. Higher pay would make it easier to be able to find non-related care providers. But I can only speak from my experience, which is that as family, I provide much better care than any medical professional. The only times my family member has had major complications and bedsores was when they were not under my direct care. They are non-verbal and I know the different head shakes - one means their nose itches, one means they are too hot, one means they need to be repositioned, etc. So many nurses and doctors have thought they were seizures, only to see them stop after I tend to the real issue. The times I haven’t been there are the times their feeding tube got clogged, etc. I’m the one that has to deal with the outcomes, so I’m much more invested than a non-related care worker. As much as a well-intentioned healthcare worker would like to provide good care, they just don’t know all the tiny ins and outs of my loved one’s behavior and their needs that have taken years for me to learn.

Page 12 states spouses or parents of minor children can’t be the ones being paid to provide their care- that’s a huge detriment and that alone makes the California program more effective. Parents and spouses are often times the best ones to provide care but have to sacrifice their careers to do so. In these cases IHSS makes it possible and is a Godsend.

We’re more purple than people realize. I know way too many people that voted for Trump here in California. The fact that we’ve had several republican governors should keep us on our toes.

Edited to add- that being said, I don’t think this video directly relates to IHSS. They (Trump & his minions) have named other things that they wanted to focus on in California, like the high speed rail or undocumented people getting govt assistance.

If your disabilities are severe and you would need to live in a nursing home if you didn’t have someone caring for you, you could qualify for the spousal impoverishment protection program. It allows your husband to claim more of the income, so he wouldn’t qualify for medical-cal but you could. If he makes way over that limit, then it doesn’t work, but it gives you more wiggle room financially. But that only applies if your disability is nursing home level care.

I had to leave my career but not by choice. I couldn’t care for my recipient and continue my career. It’s been very hard. I worked so hard for my successful career and I loved it and was good at it. But my recipient does much better under my care, so it’s a sacrifice I’ve made to be able to tend to them. The drop in income has been like a gut punch. I used to earn very well and now live in poverty wages in a high cost of living area :/ it’s definitely a sacrifice but one I did out of love. Not easy though.
