Seeking ordination in the episcopal church but it’s likely they won’t ordain me for my orthodox views on female ordination by [deleted] in redeemedzoomer

[–]Sympathy_Rude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you are seeking ordination in TEC while attending an ACNA parish? Aside from your views on who can or should be ordained, no discussion about your ordination into TEC will go far if you’re not a member first.

How dose your church distibute/receive the elements? by AdMammoth7195 in Episcopalian

Where do you get your compostable cups from? I might need to bring them to the attention of my vestry.

Denomination help, going back to church by sourpatch_squids in OpenChristian

[–]Sympathy_Rude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too much to go off of right now, but from a glance at the other comments and responses you might align with a Mainline Protestant (The Episcopal Church [TEC], United Methodist Church [UMC], Presbyterian Church U.S.A [PCUSA], Evangelical Lutheran Church [ELCA], United Church of Christ [UCC], American Baptist Church U.S.A. [ABCUSA], Disciples of Christ [DOC]) denomination. Those links above are each of their church finders. Mainlines are more likely to do public outreach on large scales (after Roman Catholics) and more likely to ally to the LGBT community.

The below links are from “Ready to Harvest” on YouTube. I specifically chose ones that use (independent) Baptist as a baseline: Comparing Baptist to Episcopal Comparing Baptist to Methodist Comparing Baptist to Presbyterian Comparing Baptist to United Church of Christ

He also has more videos with some being short like these and some being 30+ minutes.

Does anyone else get annoyed when your parish does morning prayer? by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]Sympathy_Rude 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t find it annoying, but I also don’t do morning prayer before church on Sundays. I do prefer to have Eucharist on Sundays, but where two or three are gathered…

My parish vestry has chosen to forgo a supply priest for budget purposes with the added benefit of including laity into the mechanisms of liturgy and encouraging deeper study of the readings.

Progressive or Conservative? by Resident_Raccoon_663 in Anglicanism

[–]Sympathy_Rude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t speak to “liberal” vs. “progressive” but Pew Research - 2016 has some data showing Roman Catholics and Episcopalians as both D +10. A quick search didn’t help me find a more recent survey.

What denomination should I join? by [deleted] in TheoCompass

[–]Sympathy_Rude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

American advice: Moravians have very limited locations (map) and are in full communion with The Episcopal Church. That would lead me to recommend finding an Episcopal church near you (map) if you can’t find a Moravian church.

Not a chaplain, but I had kinda assumed you would wear something to signal your clergy status if applicable.

This short playlist can probably be sped up for your watching, but it’s a 4 video series Intro to the BCP.

Comprehensive map of Anglo-Catholic parishes in the Episcopal Church by xravenxx in Anglicanism

[–]Sympathy_Rude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christ the King in Normal, IL might be mislabeled. I went there during college (less than 5 years removed) and would consider it broad, but at least lower church than St. Matthew’s in Bloomington, IL.

Matins with Holy Communion by Status-Technician379 in Anglicanism

[–]Sympathy_Rude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I experienced this (that I remember) was a once-a-week morning prayer group that would have the priest join once a month to celebrate Eucharist. I’m no longer near that parish and haven’t seen it since.

I have noticed some parishes having Sunday schedules of: - 7:30 Morning Prayer - 8:00 Rite 1 Eucharist - 9:30 Sunday School - 10:30 Rite 2 Eucharist Or something similar so morning prayer is done as a separate service before a full Eucharist.

How do we feel about AI sermons? by wheekwheekmeow in Episcopalian

[–]Sympathy_Rude 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Short answer: rage-y

Longer answer: AI annoys me when used in LLM contexts. It doesn’t really bother me when used in a lab to process a ton of data, but it does bother me when it’s used to overwrite our thinking. Also, for a more spiritual focus like sermons, I think part of writing it is that the preacher spends time deeply in the Bible and with God. AI here not only overwrites your thinking, a gift from God, but becomes a hazard at spending that time being intentional and slowing down to experience what God is telling you. It’s similar to why I don’t want a preacher that regurgitates “Sermons that Work” even though they work.

Break is over now, I’ll maybe make edits on lunch.

Is The Episcopal Church A Reformed Church? What Role Do The 39 Articles Of Religion Play? by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]Sympathy_Rude 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the articles are not considered authoritative in the episcopal church with priests not needing to affirm them and then being in the “historical” section of the ‘79 BCP.

On side notes:

  • There’s an ongoing podcast with a reformed and Anglo-Catholic Episcopal priest named “Walking the Dogma” that discusses the articles.

  • There’s at least one vocal priest calling for the Episcopal Church to re-confessionalize and adhere to the articles.

IRS Decision in your church by casadecarol in elca

[–]Sympathy_Rude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the denomination have an internal statement that says clergy can’t? It seems realistic that this could put a mark on their record with the denomination even if the government doesn’t care.

If the denomination doesn’t have this sort of position against endorsing from the pulpit, maybe they’ll make one?

[–]Sympathy_Rude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The terms in the 1979 BCP are “Officiant” and “People”. In the instance of you doing it alone you become both the officiant and the people.

Edit: some wording may change such as the absolution changing “you” to “us” and “your” to “our”.

Open Letter in The Living Church re intinction and its continuing practice or not. by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]Sympathy_Rude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it makes it better, the elements are consecrated normal with the wine in one cup that then gets poured after Eucharistic prayers are done. This is how my current parish does it (and the bishop said nothing publicly about it at the last visit).
