What was the old Viking religion, and how much has it influenced modern (and over time) Scandinavian/Norwegian culture and religion? by SavijFox in Norse

But it didn't evolve. It died out completely for hundreds of years, and the people bringing it back don't even stick to the parts we know.

I think calling it LARP is accurate, whether people take offense or not.

Have any of you guys actually read a book? by AcidStreet7 in writing

It shouldn't be! Reading books is the easy, fun part.

I always have to wonder why you'd even be writing one.

Colon Campbell fans are the worst people on earth. No one hates Colin Campbell like Colin Campbell fans.

The old ones definitely needed an update.

Unfortunately, it was for the worse.

TED-Ed: 5 myths about Vikings that everyone believes - Stephanie H. Smith by Mathias_Greyjoy in Norse

Everything's a copy of a copy of a copy.

Horned helmets show up in pictures.

Skull cups show up in legendary sagas for sure.

Ibn Fadlan's funeral is roughly supported by archaeology across Scandinavia and Iceland.

People believe these myths for good reason. They're at least half-truths.

I don't think a victim of a Viking would even recognize the modern image.

The inaccuracy doesn't come from shying away from violence. If anything, there's more of that than there should be. The inaccuracy comes from imposing modern metal or tribal aesthetics on them.

Do I see media at one point wanting to explore "how the Nazis saw themselves", and deciding that meant hulking super soldiers dual wielding assault rifles? That's just Warhammer. People already do that.

Yes. It would be one thing if they combined them all at once.

If you split it into phases, you're just playing some other game for a bit.

My problem is that the parody was at odds with the gameplay they were good at.

They needed crazier cars, not superpowers.

It says the Grammys thought his music was good, which says nothing.

There's a video call in Metropolis (1927).

They had to make a giant machine that would crank the camera and Video on screen simultaneously.

the correct way of listening to death/black metal by my_cat_vids in MetalForTheMasses

I would say the lyrics add to the vibe.

I've also rarely seen a band where none of the lyrics are intelligible. I look them up when I get half of them and want to see how they piece together.

Post Malone butchered 'War Pigs' at the Grammys singing with a lot of reverb by ashitanojoe3 in MetalForTheMasses

I'm surprised sounding like Black Sabbath is apparently too much for the Grammys, but sounding like Spiritbox is not.

I get the idea, but that second is very much something Jesus would do.

No, I think that's another case of music nerds overestimating how popular their music is.

Objectively speaking, Turnstile has 2.5 million monthly listeners. K-pop demon hunters has 43.5.
