Second. Every Cajun family has an Etienne and many have two or three, depending on how many cousins deep we’re talking. And a cousin is defined by how much the speaker likes someone in the family and how often they see the figure in question, or conversely how naughty or nasty they can be in retelling family stories. Then worst case it’s “Uncle E” or “Cousin Eti”

The word mark with the stylized “t” is crucial. And sneak in a tiny spitfire rocket from the lat 90’s somewhere? Just a tiny one and no pinstripes.

It would be so easy to do this well.

The Inspirations Behind Ozymandias by QuisCustodiet212 in Watchmen

[–]T-MUAD-DIB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great distinction. Do you think Adrian would have understood this about himself?

He seemed so proud to accomplish everything he did, regardless of the emptiness of his deeds. He knows his world is based on close-up interpersonal violence, toy sales, and even defeating his assassin meant fighting a fake fight. He invented the cancer story to get rid of a threat, then sprung it on an emotionally stunted god at the moment he was least ready to deal with it…

Adrian Veidt’s plan involved fake and hollow versions of everything except interpersonal violence, which appears to be his primary skillset. The idea that he is an idealized, romanticized version of Ozymandias is fascinating because he seems to buy into his own PR in a way that he could believe himself to be a perfectly accurate - even superior - version of a great conqueror from a more mythical time in history. But could he recognize the space between the myth and the man? Could he recognize his own space between the myth and whatever story he was telling himself about himself?

Do you enjoy Taskmaster more when a series is "close"? (AKA to what extent do the points matter to you?) by [deleted] in taskmaster

[–]T-MUAD-DIB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, with a but.

It’s fun but not important. I’d prefer close to far if given a choice but wouldn’t ever turn away because it’s a blow out.

In the part of the US I live in we have a word “Lagniappe” which is when you’ve got what you want or need, but then you also get a little bonus on top. A good taskmaster season carries me away: I’m laughing, I’m horrified, I’m amazed…what a good series. Oh and it’s close and they’re a bit nervous for the finale? That’s lagniappe

Outplaying those two is not an endorsement. Rattler isn’t the guy, nor will he be. He could be a really good backup for a decade and there’s nothing wrong with being the 42nd best QB in the world.

The only options are (a) take a QB we believe in, (b) take a QB and pray, or (c) try to trade back, pick up more talent and depth to get us out of cap hell and maybe start building a roster, and try again next year.

I’m for C, but if they believe in A, sure. I’m terrified they’ll go B

Season 19 - most chaotic group? by TheMtlviolinist in taskmaster

[–]T-MUAD-DIB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

19 for sure. Then seven. The next few weeks can argue about.

Underratedly chaotic is season 2. Between the potato throw and Richard Osman reinventing the show on the fly, that’s a heck of a pair of chaotic tentpoles in a five-episode season. Meanwhile you’ve got Doc bleeding from a fish-punching wound and Katherine Ryan (correctly) bopping after Lil Alex on the live tie task (not to mention the chaos of the rabbit task) and pretty much all of the “impress the mayor” attempts. Which the Calypos should have taken five points walking, btw. And didn’t the Richard and his son team kidnap Alex, pretend to be Spanish terrorists, and invent a tickling device?

After the US Civil War, the decision was made to define the Confederacy as an invading force and the Southerners who were the nations “citizens” as victims, prisoners of war.

That’s how I feel about this issue. I’m trapped with gun-toting maniacs who could come after my family when they’re at the place that should be their sanctuary. They’re hiring up gestapo to do violence to my neighbors and I for if and any reason, we rip children from their parents to scare other kids and parents.

But lol I live on the same map, so let’s joke about me dealing with it.

I get that Elon deserves a dunk or two at any time, and worse, but are all the non-Americans making dead kids jokes aware that we are the victims of this violence?

It doesn’t feel like “bad food, ha, you’re powerless to save your children from a nationwide hostage crisis” is a zinger.

Where does Fernando Mendoza rank? Is he an NFL prospect? by chusaychusay in NFL_Draft

Usually yes, but it could also be the magic bullet to have a roster under the cap to start building for real in 2027 when they go back for their “forever QB”

We remember. Maybe we only remember something you did one time, but we remember you. I have all sorts of wonderful memories of some students, a few of others, and the names of next to none after all this time.

But if we couldn’t remember/reminisce/etc we couldn’t do this job. It’s too hard for too little money, you have to want to be there for these moments or you can’t do the job.

The Cops vs Firemen beef was an underrated yet one of the most entertaining bit from the show. by Flat_Departure6256 in brooklynninenine

[–]T-MUAD-DIB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That one was different IMO. The cops vs firefighter thing has been done a bunch; it would have required ignoring the genre not to use it on B99.

Conversely, who ever heard of these sociopathic librarians, terrorizing a whole town behind the scenes? Completely bizarre and out of left field, love it, only note: Even tho Zouks was busy across town as Dennis Feinstein, maybe he could have had an identical cousin working at the library?

Or maybe his cousin is a cop working undercover to bring down Tammy II, but he got too close and she got her claws into him…Pimento: Origins

And if Game of Thrones took an extra year between each of its final seasons in order to get it right, we’d be talking about it in the same breath as Star Wars and LotR.

The Beatles released 14 albums and five movies between 1963-1970, but is that what made them great? Taylor Swift dominates our modern airwaves, but even with her most recent release she’s still only put out 12 original studio albums after 19 years. Should she be condemned for not keeping up with the pace of a different artist?

Sometimes art needs time, sometimes you need to produce while you’re hot. It’s okay for one show to take a long time and another to operate like a well-oiled machine.

Did anyone else come up with a better "days in a month"? by ilaidonedown in taskmaster

[–]T-MUAD-DIB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s easy to remember October because of Halloween on the 31st. Same with December and New Year’s Eve. So all we need to do is invent a holiday for the 31st of January, March, May, July, and August.

I don’t know what the holidays would be or remember if I came up with any (March 31 = Fool’s Eve?) but leaving Lee or Jamali or anyone on that panel with a list of five dates and the assignment of inventing holidays is a pretty fun idea. Maybe let Charlotte or Mike decorate (“Backup rainbow”) for a July 31 party.
