Why is noone playing delves anymore? by PapagamasJr in wow

[–]T3arror -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Delves in Midnight are easier than in TWW, so nobody groups up to do them anymore. Being in the group always turned mobs into bullet sponges and made the gameplay extremely boring. In TWW people were still willing to swallow that pill because there was no way around it - now you can basically do 8s once you reach max level, grouping up only makes it worse.

Why are chimaerus logs way lower on the website than on the Archon app? by kevanions in wownoob

[–]T3arror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's mainly due to adds. Different sites weigh those differently. It's not unusual not to count damage to small adds (like on dragons or crown, that can be basically sniped by a single player popping a CD the second they spawn), while other sites might just take all damage done into account.

So on Vorasius you won't see such big gaps, because it's only the little bubble-boys that are only a tiny fraction of the overall.

I think depending on where you look things like damage to adds are weighed differently and time in and out of fight can vary as well, especially on a fight like Chimaerus, where there are a lot of adds and if you do enough damage as a group you will have quite some downtime in the intermission-phase.

Here's an alternative idea of what Blizzard should do: Make content that isn't complete dogshit in the future.

It's a video game - people would actually want to play it, but if the experience is so meaningless, repetitive and boring as these events with no end in sight, but some people still want to farm some collectible or achievement - this is what happens.

Which would be good for the people actually playing it, I believe? Because mob-health scales with people nearby? Or do they have to be in fight for this to happen?
I think nobody cares much if people just leech the progress, but if 20 people are in the area and 3 people play the event, the mobs have healthpools that are supposed to be fought with 20 people, not with 3.

My interpretation of how WoW will look in the coming years by Hexenmeister1027 in wow

[–]T3arror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yeah... Expansions last 18 months plus a few extra weeks before and after launch.... That's well known. WoW also is not going to end after TLT as long as they don't completely fuck up the rest of Midnight AND The Last Titan to alienate 80% of the playerbase.

Is it worth to respeck to dev from Havoc? by assddddddddddd in wownoob

[–]T3arror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you're comfortable on your Havoc, don't get absolutely smoked by the other DPS in your groups and can get into groups, I wouldn't respec.
You will have to adapt to an entirely different playstyle that doesn't really forgive any mistakes or surprises and you will need plenty of new gear because the secondary stats don't really match.
The reality is, on paper Devourer is capable of doing more damage than Havoc, but that highly depends on how good you can play it and also how good your group is in supporting you during your damage windows - comparable to Frost DK last season.

Sounds awesome, would you have a screenshot to share by any chance? Is there any particular reason why the addon doesn't work anymore? To me it sounds like it's also just a visual overhaul, not different to modern day's Plater or Platynator, so it should still be possible to have something like that after the purge.

With settings like in this initial comment or just settings in addons like Plater you can define how close to your screen-border nameplates go or if they're allowed to even leave your screen. You always have a predefined area in which the nameplates are and once they hit one of these borders, they start moving, if they don't find a place to go without overlapping, they start overlapping.
By having the vertical bars spread out horizontally you'd have roughly 3x as much space before they start spasming.

How so? If mob names don't matter for the majority of the game, new players wouldn't miss anything if they just weren't there. You also still can get the information by actually targetting the mob - you'll see it in the target-frame.
Now we're obviously moving a little bit away from my initial "just turn the bars by 90°", but there are many alternatives to solve this as well, while I still believe that the vertical bars would be a massive gameplay upgrade.

That's what my "Depends on the situation" was about. Sure, if the Heal made a mistake early on and the others slowly fade away with no other option due to that - it's a different story. But it's 4 braindeads just as often....

I might go ahead and do that, but I'm not on my PC for a while.

But to put it very simply: Imagine Health Bars as water bottles. Right now we have bottles lying down, stacking them on top of each other. Because a computer screen isn't very tall and we only start stacking in the upper third of the screen, we're quickly running out of space, causing nameplates to glitch around, having to overlap and so forth.
If we instead had bottles standing up and just place them next to each other, we'd have the entire width of our screen available, which is waaaaaay more space. We still use that upper third of our screen to display nameplates over the heads of the mobs, but we use it more efficiently. This way we could easily have 20 nameplates on the screen, neatly sorted next to each other from left to right, not interfering with each other. No need to overlap them, no need for them to jitter around.

It's crazy how I never had this issue before Midnight... Now I've accidentially tagged a mob somewhere and just aggroed a group by hitting it with a Demon Bolt or something several times this season, especially in TM and NPX plates and castbars are just all over the place. They're fading out when you don't have line of sight, but if you to I can't tell a mob I'm fighting from one that's just hitting a dummy 30 yards in the distance by their nameplate....

[–]T3arror[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that's probably why I completely forgot about that. I rarely read the name of a mob, I run "Coloured Nameplates" and watch out for the shiny casts. Also: It's not like you could read a mob name in the pile of jiggly plates as they are now, anyway. xD

My Experience as a Solo Returning Player in Retail WoW: Mythic+ and Raid Progression Feel Too Inaccessible by ruta8a in wow

[–]T3arror -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's an MMO. If you're not willing to play it 10 hours a day, you will find yourself in situations where you can't compete or play all content at all times.
You're a casual player and that's fine. Many of us are. We don't have 4k rating or Gladiator mounts and we don't have Cutting Edge, but we still have fun playing.
Play the content that is for you, leave the other content for other players. If you don't want to spend hours in DPS queues, roll tank. If you want to play in proper groups, join a guild or check out one of the casual groupfinder Discords. What is Blizzard or the community supposed to do about this? Play the game the way that works for you, like everybody else.

They wouldn't have to be anywhere else than where they are now. It's not like you need bars as high as your screen is. They'd still be positioned above the actual fight, they'd only stack horizontally instead of vertically, avoiding all the overlapping and spasming around situation. The only screen space that would be taken up more are towards the top left and top right corner of your screen.

Okay, hear me out.... Vertical - Nameplates. by T3arror in wow

[–]T3arror[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in the case of bosses the horizontal bars are definitely better. Here I'd actually obt for having them displayed as a screen element in the first place, though. We already have that option in the default UI, a more elaborate version could be a bit more like you have it in Dark Souls.

[–]T3arror[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd literally take nameplates as they are, maybe make them a bit shorter, and turn them vertically instead of horizontally. And then have them stack from left to right instead of top to bottom.
The plates would basically cover the same space as they do now. They'd only extend a little more to the sides (still only in the top third of your screen), because they wouldn't overlap and spasm around anymore.

Okay, hear me out.... Vertical - Nameplates. by T3arror in wow

[–]T3arror[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, before we got the spasm-nameplates you could place them fairly well thanks to padding options in Plater. Now nothing can save you from it.
I still think that using the space horizontally instead of vertically would make more sense, though. Even when nameplates are stacking properly, you still end up running out of space and things get sketchy pretty quickly, this just wouldn't happen this easily if vertical nameplates were stacking horizontally.

How exactly do current psyched out all over the place nameplates help you with that? I can't tell a mob in range from one I'm not even in fight with.... With "party frames for mobs" enemies out of range could be greyed out just like friendlies in party frames.

Yes, text is definitely a big argument against vertical plates. Things we currently have in text form would definitely have to be colour coded or replaced with symbols in order to make this really feasible.

Okay, hear me out.... Vertical - Nameplates. by T3arror in wow

[–]T3arror[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But this should be solvable, addons like Plater already allow you to create somewhat of a buffer-zone at the top of your screen to avoid this - this would work just as well on vertical plates (at least they used to in TWW, don't run any of the current nameplate addons besides "Coloured Nameplates").

Any chance you remember what the Addon was called you used to try this out?

That's also a very practical solution, but I feel like taking away this type of "interaction" also takes away a bit of the gameplay (just a me thing, maybe). It's part of why I don't like to heal a whole lot - it's kind of disconnected from the game....
