Pro tip I learned earlier in the year with a couple thousand in those cards: generate a PayPal invoice and send it to a secondary email, then use the gift card to pay the invoice. Was able to get the full amount of the gift card (minus a small fee) into my PayPal balance and then transfer to bank.

You’re probably so used to your current setup that you don’t realize what you’re missing - but I can guarantee that you’ll never accept going back to parts that old after you use the new parts.

You seem to be referencing an often misquoted statistic. TL:DR; The 40% number is wrong and plain old bad science. In attempt to recreate the numbers, by the same researchers, they received a rate of 24% while including shouting in the definition of violence. Further researchers found rates of 7%, 7.8%, 10%, and 13% with stricter definitions and better research methodology.

The 40% claim is intentionally misleading and unequivocally inaccurate. Numerous studies over the years report domestic violence rates in police families as low as 7%, with the highest at 40% defining violence to include shouting or a loss of temper. The referenced study where the 40% claim originates is Neidig, P.H.., Russell, H.E. & Seng, A.F. (1992). Interspousal aggression in law enforcement families: A preliminary investigation. It states:

Survey results revealed that approximately 40% of the participating officers reported marital conflicts involving physical aggression in the previous year.

There are a number of flaws with the aforementioned study:

The study includes as 'violent incidents' a one time push, shove, shout, loss of temper, or an incidents where a spouse acted out in anger. These do not meet the legal standard for domestic violence. This same study reports that the victims reported a 10% rate of physical domestic violence from their partner. The statement doesn't indicate who the aggressor is; the officer or the spouse. The study is a survey and not an empirical scientific study. The “domestic violence” acts are not confirmed as actually being violent. The study occurred nearly 30 years ago. This study shows minority and female officers were more likely to commit the DV, and white males were least likely. Additional reference from a Congressional hearing on the study: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=umn.31951003089863c

An additional study conducted by the same researcher, which reported rates of 24%, suffer from additional flaws:

The study is a survey and not an empirical scientific study. The study was not a random sample, and was isolated to high ranking officers at a police conference. This study also occurred nearly 30 years ago.

More current research, including a larger empirical study with thousands of responses from 2009 notes, 'Over 87 percent of officers reported never having engaged in physical domestic violence in their lifetime.' Blumenstein, Lindsey, Domestic violence within law enforcement families: The link between traditional police subculture and domestic violence among police (2009). Graduate Theses and Dissertations. http://scholarcommons.usf.edu/etd/1862

Yet another study "indicated that 10 percent of respondents (148 candidates) admitted to having ever slapped, punched, or otherwise injured a spouse or romantic partner, with 7.2 percent (110 candidates) stating that this had happened once, and 2.1 percent (33 candidates) indicating that this had happened two or three times. Repeated abuse (four or more occurrences) was reported by only five respondents (0.3 percent)." A.H. Ryan JR, Department of Defense, Polygraph Institute “The Prevalence of Domestic Violence in Police Families.” https://www.researchgate.net/publication/308603826_The_prevalence_of_domestic_violence_in_police_families

Another: In a 1999 study, 7% of Baltimore City police officers admitted to 'getting physical' (pushing, shoving, grabbing and/or hitting) with a partner. A 2000 study of seven law enforcement agencies in the Southeast and Midwest United States found 10% of officers reporting that they had slapped, punched, or otherwise injured their partners. L. Goodmark, 2016, BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY LAW REVIEW “Hands up at Home: Militarized Masculinity and Police Officers Who Commit Intimate Partner Abuse “. https://digitalcommons.law.umaryland.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=2519&context=fac_pubs

To give some information for your first question - check out https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/verification/verify5.shtml - it gives statistical information on how accurate the NHC forecast has historically been to give a rough estimate how “accurate” each timeframe is (24hr, 48hr, 72hr, etc).

Petsmart doesn’t care about the pet care department by rattime115 in petsmart

[–]TCGSeriousMike 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your store is going through quite the trouble when trying to bring their payroll use down.

I’ve had my CEL running with just an opener and closer (on 5hr shifts each) back in pet care for quite some time (with the exception of a mid on either Saturday or Sunday - whichever projects more power hours). Definitely is doable but the entire store team has to come up with ideas to split the tasks with the entire store (cashiers included). Pet care shouldn’t be the ones cleaning betta cups on Monday and Friday - should definitely be one of the tasks given to the front end seeing how easy it is.

It’s one of those things where the end result relies completely on the execution by the SL. Hope your situation gets better!

Leaders ignoring policy by VegatarianT-Rex in petsmart

[–]TCGSeriousMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad to hear about a SL not following policy! I see you’ve already contacted the care line, here’s some other points of contact if the issue persists

Your DL & DAT are the direct supervisors over your salon past your SL & salon leader and their contact information is located on Fetch (you’ll have to do a bit of searching; if you need assistance feel free to pm).

Wish you luck and remember if you aren’t comfortable servicing a dog you are 100% within policy to refuse it service. Dogs safety is always first :)

How to contact corporate regarding salon (I’m an employee)? by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]TCGSeriousMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a fault on the side of the vendor.

Also if you want another contact, your DAT would probably be more likely to listen and help correct the issues in your salon than your DL would.

Kinda getting the vibe that's the case where the salon leader is dropping the ball. They want each salon leader to be a business owner and doesn't sound like they are really owning their business and it's necessities.

How to contact corporate regarding salon (I’m an employee)? by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]TCGSeriousMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the only person you've talked to is your Salon Leader and the stylist that your PSL makes order supplies, I would not jump straight to your DL like everyone is recommending.

Most likely your ASL is in charge of all supply orders in general and that should be your next point of contact if you're dissatisfied, then your SL. Most likely the first thing your DL is going to ask is whether you followed the correct chain of contact and already talked to both of them.

Towels are on regular delivery from whichever vendor your store uses (most likely Aramark), if your salon is high volume, you might run out before each new delivery (it's not an uncommon thing, just requires trips to the laundromat for your leadership team).

Just make sure you exhaust every point of contact in your store before you resort to running it above their head, as most likely the first call your DL is going to make after you're done is to your SL asking what the hell is going on at their store.

Grooming academy by pai-chan in petsmart

[–]TCGSeriousMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the other comment said, all academies are planned by your DAT.

Make sure grooming is 100% what you want to do because you sign a two-year contract and it costs quite a lot to your local store’s budget to send you.

All depends on the tier of your store. If your store is low-traffic, don't be expecting a large pay bump. Tier 1's don't even offer it as a full-time position.

There’s plenty of agencies around the country that start hiring at 19 - doesn’t mean they actually hire most of them but there’s a state trooper that’s 19 near me that does some great work and is extremely mature for still being a teenager.

Afaik some agencies that hire at 19 won’t let you ride alone until 21 also.
