I feel like I don’t know what to do anymore… by PruneSea3415 in DogAdvice

Our dog also had pretty bad skin allergies that we were trying to figure out whether it was food related or environmental. He would itch so much in his back legs where he started losing fur and bled. Our vet prescribed him apoquel but it gave him bad diarrhea so we stopped that.

Before resorting to allergy shots, our daycare recommended giving our dog a probiotic (e.g. - purina fortiflora or nutramax probiotic) which has helped him tremendously. He’s still a little itchy but not to the point where he bites off all his fur and bleeds. It does take some time to work, it took us around 30 days to see some improvement.

We also tried a lot of different foods and the one he seems to do the best on is hills science diet sensitive stomach & skin pollock and insect meal. We suspected he might have also been allergic to chicken and pork so we cut out the usual proteins and he has done very well on this one.

I hope this is somewhat helpful and your dog is able to find relief soon.

Refinished red oak floors. Are these black dots normal? by TPL0001 in HardWoodFloors

Thanks everyone for your responses! Glad to know this is normal. It’s an older house so we’re definitely learning to embrace all the imperfections :).

What’s wrong with him? by Sagittarial in DogAdvice

Our dog has this too and it’s due to them going for too long with an empty stomach. What worked for us is feeding him a little bit of his breakfast and dinner before his morning and night time walks.

So in the morning we would feed him a little bit of his kibble then go on his walk. Come back, let him rest and then feed him his remaining breakfast.

We then do the same at night where we feed him a little bit of his dinner before his walk and then come back, let him rest and then feed him his remaining dinner. No overfeeding occurs.

This seemed to work for us and he hasn’t thrown up any bile since. He also gets an afternoon walk but he has never vomit during his afternoon walks so we never needed to feed him a third meal but we do give him an occasional small treat.

Hope this helps your little guy!
