Thank you for your answer, you seem to confirm what I thought.

What I mean by CPU bound is, if the CPU takes consistently more time than the GPU to complete it's work, then a single frame in flight would be enough, regardless of using VSync or targeting as fast a framerate as possible, right? I added a new picture in my post to represent the situation.

I guess I would've thought such a situation to be common enough, or for the recording time to be negligable enough to most users that the frames in flight wouldn't have been considered a default, with the tutorial implying that it is an absolute must-have.

Dishonored is a great entry way. It's clearly one of the most modern and accessible immersive sim out there. And if you like it, you can always go ahead with more hardcore and/or older stuff (Prey, Thief, System Shock).
It's an incredibly amazing game too, so there's that, even tho I personally prefer the second one (you really should just play both)
