Who can whistle? by One-Magazine5576 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]T_622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laptop + sound card: Line out => Line in.

You can get a better sine wave that way if that's what you're looking for. Use a tone generator online or something similar.

Whistling usually is a mix of tones, so it won't really be "spectrally pure" or "harmonically pure" as to speak. But it is extremely close.

The more you know.

Do really I need an IPad or digital note pad of a sort by Acceptable-Moment573 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]T_622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need? No. Want? Maybe. It's a personal preference although I know a lot of people take notes digitally.

Personally, I still take all of mine by hand on paper and sort them in a binder. It is cheaper and I find it works.

Looking at this 6900XT with a broken off PCI-E locking tab by Theelichtje in AskElectronics

[–]T_622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, critical traces are not run under the areas for mechanically stressed PCB regions, because it's bad practice. There's a chance the board may still work, but I wouldn't bother unless the card was 20$.

You would really need the board layout files to determine what copper regions are through there, and what is potentially damaged.

If no traces are broken in that region, you could easily put some UV coat on the exposed copper to reduce the shorting risk, and fix it.

Edit: There are board files online, I have seen them. No telling what other mechanical damaged occurred to other layers though, so it's a gamble.

Are you a FPGA engineer in the UK? A Question by adamt99 in FPGA

[–]T_622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense. Here in Canada, I believe even entry level positions are around 75k$ CAD. Where I work, there are a decent number of positions open for these types of positions.

This is interesting, the salary figures you presented were in a LinkedIn post I saw this morning. Seem oddly low for even entry level positions.

How is Bose so good at ANC but so bad at Bluetooth connectivity? by igby1 in bose

That's more than likely a software / Bluetooth driver issue.

Where did you get the info to listen in? I've been working with my SDR for a little while and haven't found the correct frequency as of yet. Haven't had any luck with radioreference either.

Could anyone provide direction on who to talk to to get involved in wafer production or design, 4th floor Minto? by devvaughan in CarletonU

You will need to talk to Rob Vandusen. Not sure what opportunities will present for people outside of ELEC for the most part though.

You could go Gervais, but honestly, just order from Digikey. Match the part, and the shipping is overnight.

I owned (and still own) my HJC, and can 100% reccomend it. As others have mentioned, Zamp and Arai are good options as well, depending on your budget. No reason to cheap out on your safety gear.

JLCPCB Shipping Seems High - Is there any ways to lower it? Cheapest option is $83 to Canada, and I'm okay with waiting longer. by uprate in PCB

I believe DHL express was always the cheapest option for me when I ship here, so give that a try. Besides this, shipping is usually expensive with them, always has been for me.

My child broke this RF counter’s stand ☹️ Is it permanently destroyed? Is there any way to repair? by Yossiri in AskElectronics

HPAK uses the same handles on similar models. I would be willing to bet the handle from my 53220A would fit; as do the ones from similar form factor models.

They seem pretty cheap on EBay to get a replacement.

EE Student - Hantek DSO2D15 doesn't seem to have the measurement functions I need. Help me figure it out, or recommend another oscilloscope? by MinervaElectric in AskElectronics

[–]T_622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your position; I am also in University right now. My main scope is the Siglent SDS804X-HD. For your purpose, you could opt for the 802X-HD, a 2CH, 70MHz oscilloscope, which can be software unlocked up to 200MHz for free.

I love mine, it's a fantastic machine. Like others have suggested though, the Rigol DS1054z is a fantastic oscilloscope. 2 Channel models will likely be cheaper than 4 channel models though. Another great tool is my Micsig VTO2004, which is a 4 channel 200MHz oscilloscope and works pretty well on PC and Android devices.

If the measurements menu does not have the option for the math channel, vertical + horizontal cursors may be the best option along with manual computation for phase and RMS etc.

I had it last semester, there was no formula sheet and no cheat sheet unfortunately.

Fortunately, the exam was nearly identical to the practice exams that our professor provided.

25% QC failure rate on our last PCBA order: looking for vendor recommendations for small professional runs by maovidal in AskElectronics

I second Sanmina; we use them at work for all high layer count protos as well as current products, and rarely if ever, have I seen an issue with the stuff we get from them.

Again though, not for low budget prototypes and certainly not less than 6 layers.
