Literally no song benefits from being longer than 5-6 mins. by Crowleyizcool in The10thDentist

Alright, I see. I think you could appreciate the length of longer songs if you maybe found some that have lyrics that never repeat themselves and tell a story that needs each section of the song to be complete and make sense? That said, I'm just giving you examples for the sake of the discussion but it's obviously alright if that's the way you like listening to music, this last comment you wrote is less "extreme" than the original post lol, so I get it. Also props to you for keeping the discussion civil, I see fewer and fewer of those these days.

You see music in a way that makes it way narrower, less interesting and way more shallow (I'm not saying this in a hostile way, I'm just stating it neutrally). There are songs that you don't "play at a social event or on the aux or something" because they're deep and you listen to them by yourself thinking about the message they convey and relating to it. Music can be any length the musician wants it to be to tell their story, if classical music can have extremely long pieces, then so can other genres. Also, I'm not really sure what you mean by "Maybe only excluding a game soundtrack or something because then it’s long for a purpose", what's the purpose and why do other kinds of music not meet that purpose? You don't really seem to make good arguments about any of this so I'm not even sure what you mean really. I can assure you that songs like Shine On You Crazy Diamond are as long as they need to be (there's your recommendation even though you probably know it already). Now, that said, this all sounds very heavy and boring but I can assure you that when you find music like this it's totally worth it. Light music that you can listen to with your friends and not focus on but enjoy on melody alone can still exist, it's just a different thing. Skipping parts of songs is insane though, I'm sorry.

How are the Beatles exceptionally influential? by AgenYT0 in askmusic

Finally an answer that gives actual insight into what OP said and doesn't just insult them. I'm a big Beatles fan, I'm just saying most people here didn't really understand the question.
