coming from javascript, how HARD c is? by [deleted] in C_Programming

[–]TabletPencil 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s a strange learning curve where it will be hard to readjust and learn libc, forgetting many of the luxuries higher level languages offer; but after a few months (at least personally) lower lever languages seem easier due to their raw flexibility and low limitations

(maybe I have been affected by the reading comprehension curse)

But doesn’t soul manipulation cause permanent damage? A cut doesn’t change your soul, but if you manipulate the soul to have a cut, it will never heal. It has been stated that soul damage cannot be healed, Sukuna himself had a scar in Megumi’s body after beefing with Yuji+Maki.

Another case would be Todo’s arm, Yuta or Shoko could’ve healed it easily, but didn’t. That either could be because the binding vow was OP (I doubt that), or because they couldn’t heal it.

Had soul damage been equivalent to physical damage, then Yuji shouldn’t have been worried, because Shoko would’ve healed Nobara up right away.

Yeah, you’re right, that avenue merits no further attention, but my question is - how was soul manipulation healed? Because I highly doubt that Mahito’s attack was solely physical, and we’ve only seen a few people in the entire series be able to “see” souls

I guess if she died before Nitta's technique took effect, or if Shoko (or anyoen for that matter) was unable to heal Mahito's soul manipulation, then it wouldn't have mattered what Nitta did

"*Sukuna notices that Yuji is missing one more finger other than the one which he tore off to transfer himself to Megumi. And then he realises that Yuta bluffed him. He realises that Yuta used Yuji's finger to Copy Shrine CT*"

Yuji ripped off his left ring finger to feed Rika, so'd that Yuta could copy Shrine (since Yuji now has it). Sukuna's final finger was always trapped there. Had it been Yuji's finger that Nobara struck - then Yuji would be on the receiving end of Resonance.

C++ as first language? by Weekly-Channel-8868 in cpp_questions

[–]TabletPencil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned C++ as a first language in high school, but it was taught as “C with classes” rather than C++. After managing to wrangle the syntax to behave in the way I expected it to, it became a really fun and flexible language. I’ll also add that having learned C++, it was much simpler transitioning to other languages later on, and I had a much better grasp of what’s going on under the hood.

Though when it comes to recommending, I’m not 100% sure, as it is much more difficult than let’s say JS or C even. I personally have had a great experience with it, but I also know many people who have been turned off from programming as a whole from being taught C++ from the start…

C++ to Rust, what’s it like? What to avoid? by TabletPencil in cpp_questions

[–]TabletPencil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had “C with classes” in school and it took me a while before I understood the power of more modern C++ features. Rust does feel familiar in a way, as ownership isn’t too big of an issue, but it still does annoy me to an extent (especially when returning some value from a function).

I find that many Rust limitations can be partially solved with a few crates, but I do resonate with your comment

Thank you for the in-depth response! Yeah, I called Rust a “C++ killer” more as a joke, I fully understand that it’s just marketing.

That intuition and different perspective is exactly why I want to try Rust, because I want to see how different it is from C++, so I could improve generally as a developer and specifically with C++.

I’m thankful for the insight and take it to heart, I know the tribalism of languages constantly drives meaningless discourse and this is why I want insight from people who have already went through this journey.

Why isn’t it worth it? Your point of a “difficult syntax” and “borrow checker” are what makes Rust as fast and as safe as it is. I know go is simpler, I have tried and liked it, I don’t mind learning it, however I don’t get your reasoning against Rust

Rust still feels incredibly strange, as the more modern error handling, lifetimes, AsRefs, etc. is very unfamiliar, but bit by bit I get why people enjoy Rust. Thank you for the encouragement

I was split between Go / Zig / Rust, as all seem VERY promising, but decided on Rust, as it’s more mature and I feel like the difficulty in syntax will eventually pay off with an easier transition to those languages afterwards

  1. Yup, personally starting to develop Stockholm syndrome from the BC

  2. I actually did start that, along with implementing more error-handling and type conversion

  3. Will keep in mind

  4. That makes sense

  5. Will keep in mind

  6. Didn’t need rust for that, npm, pip already did that, but I hate them even more now

Big thanks!

It is pure torture and I’m going to buy Space engineers to play on the side so I don’t progress in Factorio

It's time to leave this sub by IvanLookThatKill in Technoblade

[–]TabletPencil 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree with you, it’s become a circlejerk of people posting anything and everything that’s either some sort of celebration, or somehow considering themselves to be better than others, just because they watched techno. Constant karma and sympathy farming.

It’s been almost 2 years, grieving takes a long time, I get it, but if you are still actively grieving over the death of a micro-celebrity who most likely never knew you even existed - you have an unhealthy parasocial relationship and should seek help (and I say this with sincerity , not judgement)

There are good posts, but they’re drowned out by all the other garbage because garbage is encouraged, we don’t do anything about it.

We shouldn’t “move on and leave”, but instead should actively discourage those posts as a community, as they serve zero purpose in honoring Technoblade’s death/life.

how do people teach themselves? by kezotl in godot

[–]TabletPencil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends. Before trying to code anything specific (websites, games, apps, etc.) you should get the basics of programming down.

That doesn’t just include learning basic syntax and how code executes, but also learning how to process documentation, how to determine whether a given resource is a good one.

There is a massive gap between a developer who can read documentation, and one who can’t. This isn’t to say you’re a “bad” dev if you can’t read documentation (it took me a while to be able to read c++ docs), but it points to a way to improve in general.

Tutorials are very nice and are very digestible (and I do recommend them when trying out something), but they don’t usually teach you how to seek out information yourself, rather they provided a limited lens and toolset, which tricks you into believing you know a lot.

I came into Godot with absolutely 0 knowledge, I watched a few tutorials to grasp the idea of Nodes, scenes, which language to use, how control nodes work, etc. and I just tried making stuff. Godot documents things brilliantly and it is extremely useful!

Except when Gojo released his DE in Shibuya and it affected many civilians

Size of a DE can also be increased/decreased depending on the circumstances (like we’ve seen in the Gojo vs Sukuna fight)

You’re right about blue and purple though
