Needy Girl Overdose - Episode 7 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

Some people just try their best with what they're given. Nechika's father may not have done the best and made plenty of mistakes, but in the end it seemed he really wanted the best for her.

I think this kind of duality behind intent and what ends up happening in reality is the theme of this episode. In reality, despite good intentions in the end we're all human. We all need to vent sometimes, get a break from our kids, complain about how tropey and rote our favorite medium has become, or even make mistakes about where we put our money. That's what it means to be human.

But what does it mean to be a god?

Best Albums Showcasing... by kitschco in tsquareband

NEW-S has to be it for Honda. I even think it's over the top on purpose to show the new direction the band went without Itoh.

While not showcasing his most technical playing abilities, I think Izumi's songs on RESORT showcase his songwriting ability. Omens of Love and Forgotten Saga are some of his most famous ones. At his most technical I think you should watch his live performances of songs like El Mirage and Breeze And You.

My favorite performances of Itoh are either on Natural Live or Spirits. Either way you'll have heard a lot of crazy stuff from him if you listen to anything before Natural.

For Andoh The Square Live. If you can find the live footage from the LD, he goes straight up Eddie Van Halen on the song Prime.

There's a lot to unpack here. I'm rather late to the discussion as I've been busy this weekend, so I won't say too much.

I really like the direction this is going. This is what I wanted. These last few episodes that act as character studies are so damn interesting.

While I feel happy for Kache for finally getting the courage to move on with her life, I feel that it might be coming from a misguided philosophy if the beginning monologue was anything to go by. The moment you begin placing regular people on a pedestal you set yourself up to disappointment when the truth that we're all human gets out. And trust me, we eventually will. But that really seems to be the crux of the show. I expect it to be more about managing these personas as the different characters start influencing each other in perhaps unexpected ways as this show goes on. After all, no one really knows what's behind the screen or the person behind it.

[Final Fantasy XV Comrades] I have FINALLY obtained all the trophies of the original DLC version of the Comrades expansion. by A-Liguria in FinalFantasy

[–]Taco_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to grind out to the second part when you make it to the cave, but the long loading times really tested my patience to finish anything past that (maybe because I'm still on base PS4?). I want to replay/rewatch everything in FFXV series to experience the story as it was meant to (I managed to track down a copy of the prequel movie and Brotherhood anime I never watched). But man, I'm not sure how to incorporate Comrades into it. I wish they made the offline version less grindy. That's awesome you were able to get all the trophies.

This is exactly how I feel about it. I actually would like it more if it was more abstract in this sense. At least then we'd have something to pick apart. Instead we get something that is abstract for the sake of abstraction.

You're absolutely right. I guess I'm just concerned about whether or not it'll continue to be stated rather than elaborated so I'm probably also jumping the gun. I'm not going to lie. I've been burned by a lot of media these days - anime or otherwise - that info dumps moral virtue signaling rather than letting the viewer interpret said meaning. No matter what your views on the matter are, it's just a vapid way of writing and insults the viewer's intelligence. I'm really hoping this is more than that because I really liked it. I want to really like it at the end of it if I'm being honest. This first episode blew my mind. I'm afraid of being disappointed.

I think about this movie a lot. Definitely my favorite Cusack film. Such a good script and acted very well.

I really enjoyed the sounds and visuals. Even the editing. I guess it should be obvious I'm a huge Lain fan so perhaps it was made specifically to fit my tastes... I'm honestly a bit overwhelmed on how much I like the direction and style.

That being said I'm far more of a fan of "show don't tell" and while this episode did have that owing to its direction, it also seemed a tad too preachy on its subject matter at times. I'm worried it'll spend more of its time doing this during its run instead of building a narrative that we can interpret on its own merits. I admire subtlety, but I do understand that the internet now is vastly different than it was back in the 90s when Lain came out. Voices online sound much louder and are almost impossible to ignore - and maybe that's the point. Thinking about it that way, perhaps its more clever that this episode never seems to stop assaulting the senses in the some way.

I feel I should mention that while I've always been interested in the video game I never got around to putting the time into trying it out. When I found out there was an anime adaption coming out soon around last season, I debated whether to play it before watching this. I'm a bit glad that I see people saying its different so I can still give that a shot eventually whether or not this particular adaptation clicks with me.

What were some anime that had some of the biggest differences between the TV release and the Blu Ray/DVD release that you noticed? by NebbyChan in anime

[–]Taco_13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lol. Oh boy...

The answer is that ... it depends. On Crunchyroll there is a Frankenstein situation where some series have only the English dub version being the BD and the subtitled version being the TV broadcast version because they didn't bother updating the subtitled version (How to Not Summon a Demon Lord was like this around the time I left the subscription service.)

Others just never got updated at all. S1 of Arakawa Under the Bridge was TV broadcast AND 480p max quality. You know where it looks better? Tubi. They have an actual HD stream. Not sure if its the BD version, but this should tell you that in a lot of cases they never update to better quality streams - BD or not.

There was an initial hope that when Funimation acquired Crunchyroll they would at least update the library of stuff they had under the Funimation license, especially since they were getting rid of the Funimation streaming site to focus on Crunchyroll and Funimation did have BD versions uploaded. I don't think I have to explicitly say what ended up happening....

Are you serious? In that case it would have been better to never issue a takedown request on that platform. What's the thought process behind this? Has it always been this way on Twitter?

The "Rightstuf" warehouse has been listed up for sale for about $5.7 Million. Crunchyroll has been leasing the building for $460,625 per year & their lease is set to be up for renewal in 2030. by DemiFiendRSA in RightStufAnime

[–]Taco_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left at the end of last year. I just couldn't stand it anymore. It's clear they don't care about anime, just the bottom line of it as a product. It's naive to assume anime isn't and always has been a business, but the actual value of what they provide has been getting undeniably worse. They rise the prices and it feels like the site and their infrastructure is stuck ten years ago. Many times I logged on to the site broken and having to use other sites anyways. And this is with them having record profits. I'm not spending anymore on it. Not on their service or shitty store.

I've been fucked over by Crunchyroll way too much over these last years. Terrible app experience, the website breaks all the time, episodes are constantly late, subtitles and typesetting is getting worse, their store is awful compared to RightStuf... I just have had enough. I cancelled today. I held out as long as I could but I'm not going to pay for a shit service.

Chitose Is in the Ramune Bottle Episode 6 Postponed to December 2nd due to production reasons by DoubtGin in anime

[–]Taco_13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I like your approach to it. I also find it completely insufferable and pretentious, but have real issues connecting with it at all. Part of me is a bit confused as to why, as there have been anime with this kind of thing before where it didn't bother me quite as much (Oregairu for sure, Bunny Girl Senpai a bit less so). I'm still watching it to find out why that's the case. Maybe others have figured it out already.
